Dreamflyin no dey hear. SOme1 has asked him his cable size and distance..he simply said its god blah blah blah. NOw he goes off to acquire an mppt cc without eliminating all likely causes. Dont think we shud bother trying to help u till u start showing some seriousness. 1. how many strings of panels do u have. 2. are u using a combiner box. 3. what size of cable are u using in mm or awg. 4. Whats the distance from panels to cc 5.whats the distance btw cc and batt bank.and what is ur cable size. 6. what is the make of ur panels.specifications..are they all the same make..hope u didnt mix poly n mono. 80w. 150w. 250w on same string etc |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Dreamflyin(m): 8:16am On Oct 30, 2016 |
earthrealm: I don't have a caliper yet, to check the cable size, but it should be 5-6mm. I tired uploading pic. Combiner box? No. Distance from PV to CC would be around 15 - 20feet. CC to battery should be 3feet Max. All pv are poly. 8 250w panels. ..but please, I thought MPPTs does a better job. If PWMs were giving 20a at peak, should MPPTs also give same?

efuro: I wish I could draw the connection. An installer did the job for me. Par the duration I assessed the Cc, I left it for a whole day. It did Max 22amps, same as my two PWMs. 1 Like |

Dreamflyin: Cable sizing spotted in your pics really looks RIDICULOUS ! Contact me for 10mm×2 armoured copper cable"with grounding/earth strands" seen in pics below @N1400 per yard. Utilize 16-25mm cable upwards from mppt to batt bank...2×2 panel config works BT 3×3 works best esp on I Tracer ... 1 Like 1 Share

Dreamflyin: YOU still didnt state how the panels are connected, how many strings, if you are using a combiner box etc. 5 or 6mm is too small for 2kw panels, if you dont understand the connections/what the installer did, your best option is to get a good installer or some1 who is knowledgeable about the whole thing to guide you. you are providing half n half information , maybe cos you dont know, or dont understand the reason why we are asking for all those info, n its a bit frustrating... since u said u hv 8 pnels, its likely ur installer used 4 strings of 2 panels or 2 strings of 4 panels ]not so good for itracer]. state ur location, maybe some1 here who has knowledge can volunteer to help check ur system out nb: most cable size is written on the body of the cable!, look carefully/closer 2 Likes |

Obimind1: this is not scientifically possible in this century, maybe in the next century it will be. getting 60amps from a 30amp cc, from a 600watt panel? pls crosscheck and verify what you wrote 3 Likes 1 Share |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Barezzi(m): 3:14pm On Oct 30, 2016 |
In addition, the 30A cc should clip the current at 30A. You shouldn't see 31A sef... |

Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by DMerciful(m): 7:12pm On Oct 30, 2016 |
The current drawn depends on the state of charge. If a battery is almost full, the current reduces so when comparing make sure to state the voltage of the batteries. Dreamflyin: 2 Likes |

Obimind1: You should have said 60Ah then. Current (A or amps) is an instantenoeus quantity and is very different from ampere-hour, AH which is a function of current and time. Solar harvest is stated in AH or WH. 5 Likes |

Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by foonshur(m): 10:12am On Oct 31, 2016 |
hello gurus, I already have a setup which comprises of a 1.5kva inverter and 2 12v, 200amps batteries. I want to add a solar system to it. I got an advice that 2 200w mono panels and a 60amp mppt cc will be enough to charge the system and power 2 led tvs, 2 decoders, 1 sound system, 2 ceiling fans and about 5 nergy saving bulbs, although I dont put on everything at the same time. My 1st question, is this setup ok or does anything need to be upgraded as per the solar installation, and what is the price range of the panels and the charge controller in this "buhari period". Thanks. |

@ codemaster2much, @ monlo, @ mank1234, @ dicksonadams , thanks very much for ur kind words...seeing people go renewable and helping in any way I can gives me joy. @ foonshur In setting up ur system, there are some units that are not modular per se and as such needs proper planning from the onset. You battery bank cannot easily be increased as you become buoyant cos of the limitations of mixing old and new batteries so better to buy like 4batteries of 200AH one time. Also the 60A mppt is OK...as it gives room for future expansion. You can buy fangpunsun flexmax or epsolar itracer...these are not that expensive but quite good. Use at least 8mm cables to run ur panels so you don't have to replace cables when d need to expand arise. For ur 12v,200AH * 2 batteries, their kWh is 4.8kwh(24*200ah) and as such requires a solar arrangement that can deliver 4.8kw per day. A solar setup that can give 4.8kw must in reality be 4.8kw/0.6 =8kw as you can only get 60% due to changing sun angle on d horizon from sunrise to sunset and also as it moves from Capricorn to Cancer(a bit intellectual). So you need about 8000/(200*=5 panels of 200w(8hours of sun projected) but to cater for cloud covers periodically I'll advice 6panels and mind you your batteries will not be drained everyday. Cheers foonshur: 3 Likes |

thanks guys I really appreciate your prompt and honest responses. @ DMerciful 6 panels? damn! I'm not goin to depend solely on the sun to charge my batteries as I have a perkins generator and also still connected to the national grid(although I get like 5hours of supply in 2 days) so the point of having a solar setup is to save on fuel. like I said, jst want to power the basic appliances as the refrigerator and ac will be considered much later. |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by DMerciful(m): 11:14am On Nov 01, 2016 |
You cannot be talking generator if you're talking renewable energy . 6 panels is not much or that expensive . foonshur: |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by foonshur(m): 12:32pm On Nov 01, 2016 |
@ DMerciful bros, I cannot become a champion 1 time, I have to stepup, to stepup , to stepup I have reduced my generator running hours to about six hours a day, a great feat if u ask me. then abeg how much will the 6panels be? |
