I have no idea. But it sounds like a visit to your doctor is in order. If you are in Lagos, see a dermatologist (there are some I know, in private hospitals around VI/Festac/Lekki).
ťanx..I reside in Benin. I Will try n luk for one

Godmother, babies refusing to nurse happens in every continent on the planet. So whilst I fully believe that Indians and Brazilians are throwing juju against breastfeeding, I have no explanation for Dutch, American and British women doing so. So "awon aye" is a myth.

The hospital I use don't encourage bottle feeding for new borns because they find it difficuly differentiating the bottle tip from breast tip. If you must express to feed pls use a cup and a spoon to feed her and continue putting her to breast. You just have to teach her cos she is confuse and feeding on bottle is easier for her than the breast that's what she has learnt.

Took her for her check up yesterday and this is what the doc told me. Said if I feed with cup and spoon she will come to appreciate the breast and see it as an easier method.

Rezzy, please go to Emel or Massey now. Go now, he should be showing improvements. Start going this morning. There are paeditricians at Emel hospital every single day. Massey is a children's hospital, your son needs a doctor who is trained to treat children and not a GP.

OK ma, I was even asked to stop using feeding bottles. But he refused spoon feeding, and won't swallow the food in his mouth not until I change to bottle. I hide his feeding bottles after each feed. (he doesn't reject spoon feeding before)
He didn't collect rota vaccine o.

@rezzy, it is well with your son.
Please try and ensure he takes the rota and all other vaccines, most are now free at government hospitals.
Take care.

Good morning mamas.

What type of aspirator have you using ? Is it the "bulb" type? I find them completely useless as they remove little or nothing.

I attached pictures of a very good aspirator - "nosefrida nasal aspirator". If you can get it where you are based, it's really good. It's a bit similar with the hospital aspirator ( at the hospital, the child is swaddled with a cloth and a tube/pipe is inserted the right into the child nostrils and pressure is used from a tube like machine to remove all the snot and mucus - a very heartbreaking and rather distressing procedure to watch I must say).

With this aspirator, you use your mouth to suck the tube and all the mucus is extracted out. You can read online for more information/reviews on it.

Yeah, its the bulb type. I agree, its totally useless.
I'm in lagos, I will look for this nosefnosefrida, thanks.

Emel is closer to her and I know the PDs there (consultants). Their medical team is pretty seasoned (their 2 gynaes, one is a Conso and the other is Prof of Gynae), their surgeon is very respected. My only worry is if it is a tough case (I'm just concerned because naija doctors can love to keep prescribing antibiotics even with no change). I don't think I have any contacts for Massey but abeg let her start going there since Govt Hospital can waste time.

cc rezzy

Mamamj, Lifeline in Lekki 1 is okay (they have a PD come in daily and their main nurses are seasoned matrons). I think they're overpriced though but for the basics they are fine. To be honest, I only did Immunization there because of hubby (even though FG is the one that provides all the immunisations to every hospital in the country, he was concerned about the storage in LG, what if there is no light for days).

^^^ looking at the cost price abroad, that's pricy.
Limsycutey, if you can afford it, just buy it. Its worth it and it can be used for other kids in future.

Another option is to look for other aspirators with similar design although I won't be surprised if it's hard to get one as the nosefrida design might be patented.

Rezzy. I will add to what the other ladies have said. Your son should have shown signs of improvement by now. At least, the stooling should have stopped. Please take him to a children hospital with paediatricians experienced in managing such health condition.

Over 72 hours, I can't see visible improvement except (baby not looking dehydrated) He still poos, I think he poos only water, after pooing new born yellow-greenish poo. Whether he urinate gon, I can't tell. .
Before he poos, he feels so much discomfort for close to 1 hr, I will massage his tummy taya, before he finally poos

A friend suggest I ask them to refer me to Massey street children hospital island. (Government Hospital with their wahala, go and buy syringe , go and buy hand glove, go and photocopy )

I met another doctor not quite long and explain my fears, he said it will stop th@t some germs in diarrhea are very stubborn, that they had a case like dat thar the woman just woke up one day to find out the poo had stopped.

Their paediatrician comes every Wednesday, but I don't think I can wait till Wednesday here o. I'm tired of sleeping on hospital bed.

I'm still giving him ors. Hopefully, he is going to be better by Dawn. Amen

Rezzy, does this mean the paed has not seen your lo since you are admitted?
If the answer to the above is yes, I think you should go to a hospital that has a resident paed. It is very important that your lo is handled by a professional at this stage.
God will strengthen you dear and your baby will be fine and back to his normal self shortly.

Mamas in the building that feed expressed breast milk to their LOs. ...how many mL do you feed at a go and what is the time interval ?
My baby is 10weeks old today...I have been feeding him with 120ml every 2-3 hours..except he sleeps longer than 3hours but once he wakes I feed him. Recently, I started making it 130ml . But I don't seem to be comfortable with his poo frequency. It is too frequent except at night (he doesn't poo throughout the night for more than a week now)...like every 2-3hours too and very loose...My mind occasionally thinks diarhea but then no fever or weakness. Google says overfeeding can cause loose poo but does not categorically mention what quantity is too much.
What quantity do you feed your babies and how many diapers do you change?

I know this is the wrongest thread to ask for this but I don't know what else to do, like I have tried searching for an Avenue to ask this question.
Please, I need a psychiatrist, preferably an older lady who can be of help and has some experience in the health sector too. And probably would not mind having a discussion on Skype.. I swear, I need just need this.

Your baby is 10 months or 3months

A formula fed 3 month old baby should ordinarily be on 150-180 ml every 3hours!

For EBfed the we were told to feed on demand undecided can a baby overfeed on bm (Still a debate)
They usually stop drinking when they are full, if he is taking all the expressed milk and seems content I'm good with that.

Frequent poop asides diarrhea shouldn't be a cause for concern it may just mean the child has a well functioning digestive system and metabolism.

As long as you are producing enough milk and your son is feeding well and happy + healthy why are you bothering yourself on the amount of shit he produces everyday? Something is constantly going in and something will definitely come out as waste!

The downside of cutting down on his feed now might be crankiness as his stomach is already stretched to accommodate this present quantity.

My opinion the quantity is just right and may even be slightly under if he weighs up to 6 kg.

Diaper change in a day depends on a lot of factors but nothing less than 3 per day.

10months was typo error. Meant to type 10weeks. I just want to be sure he is not having diarrhea as I learnt that from a certain age babies can go a whole day without pooping.
Am not producing enough milk ooo that is why I am pumping as often as I can to make sure he gets enough.

I don't know his current weight till we go for 10weeks immunization. ..

Thanks

Very loose poo every 2-3 hours for a baby that age is a lot. that means he poos averagely 5 times a day between 8am and 6pm. I personally think that's too much. At your baby's age, mine was on about 180ml of milk and peaked at about 220ml when he was around 5 months old. At that age he was getting minimum 6 diaper changes - soiled or not.

since you are breastfeeding, what is your diet like? Are you taking too much fruits? Too much honey? Too much sugary food? Too much vegetables? I am a big fan of Ribena and anytime I took it during the first weeks of breastfeeding, my son always ended up pooing frequently than usual and his poo was very loose. Even when I hid to sip my Ribena, my mum always knew as the tell tale signs were there once she changed his diapers and she would scream 'mummy ribena' grin grin. I had to give up Ribena.

I think you should watch what you eat, change your diet and see if there are any changes. If the frequency of his poo is still the same, seek the opinion of a doctor.

if your baby is formula fed, then maybe you should try another brand as that might also be responsible for the frequent poo.
