I seriously don't like this... He was reported fine and would require only a few days off.... But now this?? I don't like it.... So what now? Call akpeyi or run to enyeama coz Ezenwa or alampasu won't man the goal. Or can Ezenwa do it?

OFFICIAL: CARL IKEME OUT OF ALGERIA
WORLD CUP QUALIFIER

Injury has ruled out Nigeria goalkeeper Carl Ikeme
from an all-important World Cup qualifier at home
against Algeria later this month, officials said.

Ikeme, 30, was forced out of the English
Championship game at Blackburn Rovers at the
weekend due to a hip injury.

“Yes, he’s out of the Algeria match due to injury,”
said spokesman of the Nigeria Football Federation
(NFF), Ademola Olajire.

The player contacted the NFF to inform them of
the severity of his injury.

The official said they are now waiting on coach
Gernot Rohr to name a replacement for the
Wolverhampton Wanderers shot stopper.

Likely replacement would be Olympic team
goalkeeper Emmanuel Daniel or South Africa-
based Daniel Akpeyi, who also deputised for him
when he was unavailable for an AFCON clash in
Egypt in March due to a stomach problem.

This is a major blow for Nigeria as Ikeme has
established himself as the country’s No.1
goalkeeper since his brilliant debut in a 2017
AFCON qualifier in Tanzania in September 2015.

He was the man of the match after he made
several big saves for Nigeria to beat hosts Zambia
2-1 in Ndola last month in an opening World Cup
qualifier.

Ikechukwu Ezenwa is our second choice goalie.

Carl is out, so Ezenwa it is.

For those calling for Alampasu, be rest assured that it cannot be him.

Rohr may likely recall Emmanuel Daniel who will now become second choice to Ezenwa.

Ezenwa is a very experienced and brilliant goalie.
I feel sad that Carl would not make it but I believe Ezenwa can manage to deliver.
i agreed with you ezenwa is a very brilliant goalie, vincent was still a homebased when the highchief invited him to the super eagle,he shall be given a chance

I believe so too..... He may not have played for about two months but impressed greatly against Valnecia, Malaga and Atletico madrid for the NPFL all-stars.

He was even captain of the all-stars team.

I believe Ezenwa can do it.... HE HAS TO DO IT!

This is crucial..... It's a more manageable risk compared to other choices we have now. Although there are folks who prefer Daniel Akpeyi.

According to probability since this never happened..... There was 50% chance of that not happening had Ikeme been in goal and 50% chance of us still losing with Ikeme.

So I can't say because it never happened. smiley But that's me being scientifically analytical.

Truth is... Ikeme would have inspired much better confidence in our defence that day than Akpeyi... #fact

Ikeme would have possibly kept out that goal Akpeyi conceeded also from Ramadan Sobhi.

But again.... All are assumptions (albeit based on some facts and proven trust), so we can never know.

But as we didn't qualify did Heaven fall?

We get many goalkeepers but I don't know why we don't want to invite dem.

Bamidele Aiyenugba has been ignored so too long despite his performance last two seasons ago.

What about Jonathan Ligali of Montpelier?

I prefer Emmanuel Daniel to Ike and Ikpeyi.

Nice question.... smiley Ofcos it didn't.... smiley

This is why I always use this line when referring to our rising new super golden generation....

"It is at the time darkness is thickest that light is ever nearer..... For out of the "blackest" or darkest night heralds a bright dawn"

Nigerian football is rising again, slowly but surely out of her darkest hours ever.... Periods which saw thick black clouds descend over our football.... They are dispersing and making ways for the rise of a new dawn.

So heaven did fall, but again Heaven rises.... Steadily but "surely" wink

Always and Always, "the night is darkest just before the dawn" smiley

The last time I checked when we meet Algeria in the unforgettable “90 minutes to glory” in 1994 world cup qualifiers
Algeria were on the high having won the nations cup 2 years back and having their golden generation
While Nigeria was on the rise with the Okochas, Finidis etc and the ever reliable Yekini who was marked out. “We defeated them” by getting the needed drew 1-1 to qualify having won the first leg 4-1

The same scenario is playing out they are the best ranked team in African and Nigeria on the rise again
We new face “KILLER” Iheanacho and Iwobi and the moses, Mikel etc

Sure Thunder will strike twice…. grin grin

yea good talk we have many goalkeepers but do we trust them btw d stick.D issue of Enyeama coming back should not arise now coz he has retired from d team with d reason best know to him, though Mikel suffered d same humiliation from Olishe but did not announced his retirement.

It's left for Enyeama to say am available again for selection,we can't force him though i wish is around in a situation like this and salvage us.We don't have option than to stick to Akpeyi,Ezenwa and Alampasu for this crucial match, with good psychologist there w be no issue.

It's a pity Ikeme w not be available and Enyeama has retired coz d two are class,Ikeme is d most technically sound goalkeeper Nigeria ever had coz he understand d rudiments of goalkeeping,he read d game very well.Enyeama remained d most talented to have come out of Nigeria league and face euro giant England at world cup as a rookie.

As i said we can't force him out of retirement but it w be good to have him and Ikeme vie for No 1 position,d rivalry w be great. It w remind us of old days of Rufai,Agbonavbare and Aloy Agu.

The goalkeeper trainer should just brace up and psyche the trio(Akpeyi,Ezenwa and Alampasu just like how coach Adisa psyche Enyeama up against England and he delivered.

Coted'voire were the African Champions then.. They won in Senegal 92.. The 1:1 game was in 1993.

Nigeria was placed in a group with the 1990 champs and the 1992 champs.

That 1:1 game in Algiers was a killer. Algeria had nothing to play for but played Nigeria off the pack that day.... We only needed a draw to qualify.

Now between Vincent Enyeama, the NFF, Coach Sunday Oliseh and so many of us who are against the idea of recalling Vincent who is more proud.

The NFF treated this guy like an enemy.
Coach Sunday Oliseh followed suit.
We are still thinking the same way on this forum, any time his name is mention.

Oga Icon4s must tell me why he thinks the guy is too proud.

Now is the right time for your clamour for experience which I bought into?

Thanks for the insightful point. This is a National hero who turned up in camp two days after burying his mother. Losing a mum is one of the Toughest things someone can go through and all Enyeama wanted was to keep.

As Enyeama said, many will not understand the sacrifices they go through to keep the Super Eagles going.

When you hurt someone, you plead to soften the person's heart. You give the person time and keep pleading.

We should not look at it as arrogance or pride. We should look at his sacrifices.

We need Enyeama back. Rohr thinks so and I do too. Let us support the recall of Enyeama.

Sir Icon4s was obviously being very sarcastic. He said it's better to play a young and inexperienced Alampasu than an Enyeama who is "enjoying this show". grin **And I agree**

As for me, I was just being open-minded..... Or didn't you see where I said in a reply to Sir BascoVanVeli, "I'm not saying Alampasu should start......"??

Look, It's very obvious Alampasu won't play in goal against Algeria BUT I'm also saying that If it comes down to that, then Alampasu is worth the risk. He was best U-17 goalie in the world in 2013. He's a super prodigy after all. smiley

Buffon began at age 17 for Parma in a "SUPER HIGH PROFILE" game against the dreaded AC Milan that had George Weah (the same AC Milan that humbled Barca's DREAM TEAM OF THE 90s). That game ended goalless and buffon was named man of the match. 1994 was the year.

NOTE: Buffon had no prior big match experience before that game. That was his serie A debut. His only "big" experience was Japan 1993 and training with Parma's youth sides and then "some".

So this is me being as open-minded as ever on this issue. Alampasu won't keep goal... That's true and of the highest likeliness but again who we start in goal in Uyo between Ezenwa and Akpeyi is still a "risk" albeit a more manageable risk for the sake of Nigerians who may suffer heart attack for lack of faith seeing Alampasu in goal.... wink

Life is all about risk and opportunity also... It's not everytime one is certain.

Iheanacho, Success, C. Nwakali performed with top quality. I believe if Alampasu gets the chance, he will perform well. It begins with his camping performance.

I hope Rohr does not use age excuse to deny him his chance. If Alampasu does better than the other goalkeepers in camp, then the he deserves the starting line-up

I was personally against Oliseh's appointment of Ahmed Musa as team captain ahead of Enyeama and Mikel.

I supported Enyeama's decision to quit after that incident. However, his comments after that incident have not portayed him in good light. He became so unpatriotic and doesn't want his name mentioned in any quarters.

Yes I am an Apostle of experience. Enyeama is not the only experienced goalie we have. So i say Ezenwa and Akpeyi are experienced enough for the job. Afterall Akpeyi was in goal in the return leg of the clash with the Pharaohs. Did heaven fall that day?

We should try and look from Enyeama's point of view and not ours. Enyeama is a symbol of sacrifice as soon as he arrived in camp two days after burying his mum. There is now way he can negatively out do that.

Those who caused the problems in the NFF are still in the glass house. So returning proved tough. With time, when he knows we appreciate his heroic efforts, he can return to the team.

Ezenwa is not very good... He is poor on crosses and is often in no man's land from simple crosses and corner kicks... Look at the goals conceded against Malaga and Valencia. He has decent reflexes but terrible technique. He does not cover his near post adequately.

Emmanuel Daniel and even Alampasu will do a better job.
