OP, it won't cost you more than 3500 naira to get both the new engine oil and filter, if you think you can't afford the money at the moment then i'll advice you to park your car and keep going out with a transport bus until you get the money for it, I am using a Volkswagen Passat too and now sef na me dey service my car by my self. Google is always your Friend. cheesy

If you are enlightened enough to be on nairaland, you should be knowledgeable enough to know that road side oil is not good for your car

Who nw knws which is sealed and roadside oil again.i live here in nnewi.my 3 of my neigbours sells both seald and unseald.bt u knw wat?they simply pour the unseald into cans of popular brand.seal.and sell as seald.nw.wat they sell to u seald is same as wat they sells to me unseald.and u cant notice d diference.

That's why you're not supposed to buy engine oils from your 'Neighbour'

You're to buy from recognized filling stations and reputable distributors!!

Meanwhile, I've always said it, that we Igbos are our own problems!! Just Negodu!!

I once used it, never knew my car was leaking oil. I was in the middle of no where and that was the only oil available. I had to use it to move the vehicle to my mechanic place before changing the oil

You can but you should not. A better alternative would have been palm oil or groundnut oil but buhari has made these even more expensive.

My advice, park your car till you have enough money to buy the recommended engine oil.

Palm oil self dey expensive now

Sell the car and buy genuine oil. It's better that way.

Do this and in less than 50km, that car will start emitting white exhaust fume.

When a car emits white exhaust fumes, what does it indicate?

Secondly, have u noticed that the emitted fumes when you ON a sound car first thing in d morning is usually a bit whitish?

My car engine oil seems to be black and due for an over haul the price of packaged oil is expensive so am thinking of buying the normal roadside oil to do its overhaul. Will there be any implication? its a Volkswagen passat. please advice.

If you can't adequately maintain the car then you have no business owning it in the first instance! undecided

I know you buy the regular 20w-50 In your car. And if that's too expensive for you to afford.please sell the car.

Of all cars to do this with , you're talking about a Volkswagen Passat . I don't even pour road side oil in my gen .

And to say that servicing comes up once in 3 to 6 months..

Re: Can I Replace My Car Engine Oil With A Road Side Measurement Oil? by Nobody: 10:35am On Nov 04, 2016
I dont know the year of manufacture for your passat, but if it was made from 1997 It would require synthetic oil like 5w40 to run, Total Quartz 9000 is ideal for this, you can manage 20w50 if your engine mileage is over 180,000km like my jetta.

I would not advise road side oil cos its just base oil with no treatment hence not suitable for a Volkswagen engine.

Mind you the VW engines run hot, the difference in price between the road side oil and the ones you buy from reputable stations is marginal.

Don't be stingy with car engine oil, buy the right type of engine oil for your carl, its more economical than replacing an engine.

I do not drive yet, neither do i have a car yet.

However, my common sense tells me that this is a useless question to ask.

How can you use those road side oil filtered from gutters?
