I won't field Alampasu either unless other keepers prove to be utterly useless in camp. Training is different from real match situations.

Let us wait for a couple more reports, cuz i can agree with one day but if outperforms them day in day out i will ask questions.

Alampasu, Iwobi, Iheanacho Lead Top Performers In Super Eagles Training

Ahead of their World Cup 2018 qualifiers clash against Algeria, the Super Eagles of Nigeria had their first full training session at the training pitch of the National Stadium Abuja.

Owngoalnigeria.com witnessed the open door session and we picked five players who were very impressive for the two hours the training session under the watchful eyes of coach Gernot Rohr lasted.

Dele Alampasu: Brave, confident and commanding, the 2013 Korea U-17 World Cup winning goalkeeper, who was rated the best at the tournament showed why he is so highly rated. His cat like reflexes was one of the highpoint of the evening session. He was simply outstanding.

Alex Iwobi: The Arsenal forward oozed class anytime he touches the ball, he was very lively and used the ball at his feet to good effect. He connected well with other players on the pitch and clearly left coach Gernot Rohr impressed.

Kelechi Iheanacho: His link up play with Iwobi was extraordinary, the pair were at ease finding each other with passes and amazingly even in tight situations. A combination that could wreck the Algerians if carried into the match day.

Mikel Obi: The captain looked fitter than ever, didn’t show any sign of a player who is yet to play a competitive game this season for his club. Obi was lively, full of running and incisive with his passes. A sign of how well he has managed his lack of game time at Chelsea.

Moses Simon: Diminutive, daring and full of dribbles. The Gent man was clearly head and shoulders above the defenders who tried to stop him. His movement off the ball was also top class and bar a poor finish, he could have scored a wonderful goal.

Algeria are under pressure, says Nabil Bentaleb

The 21-year-old midfielder revealed that the Greens’ task to get a positive result against the Super Eagles brings them closer to the heat
Nabil Bentaleb has said that Algeria are under pressure to deliver when they face Nigeria in their second 2018 World Cup Qualifying match in Uyo on Saturday.

The Greens performed below expectation when they drew Cameroon at home in their opening fixture, and they will have to win against Group B leaders Nigeria in Uyo to strengthen their bid for a place in Russia.

http://m.goal.com/x/en-ng/news/17092/pre-season/2016/11/08/29312202/algeria-are-under-pressure-says-nabil-bentaleb

“I must say that we are a bit under pressure because we need a good result against Nigeria. But I'm optimistic because Algeria always give good output in difficult times,” Bentaleb told Le Buteur.

The on-loan Schalke 04, who has found a new lease of life in Germany after a disappointing campaign with Tottenham, downplayed the effect sacking and hiring a new coach within a qualifying series could have. With Georges Leekens replacing Milosec Rajevac after the opening fixture.

“Risky? No. It remains the choice of the president of the federation. Now, if the old coach did not have the means to drive the country far in this competition, then this is definitely a good decision.”

Gernot Rohr confident Nigeria will beat Algeria in Uyo

The tactician has admitted that the Greens are a tough side, but insisted the three-time African champions will tame them in Uyo on Saturday
Coach Gernot Rohr has expressed confidence in the Super Eagles ahead of their World Cup qualifier against Algeria at the Godswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo.

The tactician led the three-time African champions to a 2-1 victory over Zambia in Ndola last month and he has insisted that they are not moved by the Greens’ ranking on the continent, saying that his boys have the quality to humble their foes at the nest of champions on Saturday.

Rohr said he will focus more on his attack against the Desert Warriors after admitting that his side’s strike force against the Chipolopolo were wasteful, which limited the number of goals in that encounter to two.

“You know Algeria is number one officially in Africa, but we will use our best team and see if we can beat them,” Rohr told media.

“The difference between Zambia and Algeria is that there are very big players in the Algerian team, they have one of the best players in England, they have champions, they have very good players who are formed in France, most of them from the French academies, and so they have good education, good discipline, and good tactical qualities.

“I know it will be difficult, but I’m sure we will make a good game and all the players will give their best.

“We must be more efficient, we had lots of opportunities to score in our first game in Ndola, we only scored at one time, we worked hard, we made a lot of exercises of shooting in training, we will do it again this week, and we hope we will be more efficient than the last time.

“But already in Zambia was better, and we must also have good defence and that is what we are working on at the moment, to have a very good defence because there are very good attack in the Algerian team.”

Better because it comes out somehow when we are talking of how good Khedira is passing and you talk of how many times he passed the ball. Most times, when watching, we do not notice how many times a player touches the ball but what he does with the ball when he gets it.

Khedira has beautiful performances where he was brilliant with his choices.

That is why I flipped with the stats. Not knocking you at all. Sorry for the late reply. I had to do something early.

How do you think stats are calculated? Distance covered, dribbles completed.. Etc
Thing is that football has gone scientific. Sophisticated scouting softwares ate used to analyse a player.
These softwares analyse and count the number of times a player touches the ball. Kilometres covered, passes, everything.
Opta, whoscored and other statistics websites have access to these numbers.

I don't sit on my sofa and count how many times a player passes or touches the ball. Is simply go online and find every detail about a player.
A team like Arsenal bought a scouting software called StatDna for £2m. That should tell you how scientific the game has gone.

Players can't hide on a football pitch anymore.

Not surprised to see Alampasu outshining the rest.... smiley

He and The David Nwokolor (also followed his progress since Owngoal mentioned him couple of months back) you mentioned are the future of our goalkeeping position. THANKS FOR THE HISTORICAL INFO ON THE DUO FROM THEIR ABUJA ACADEMY. smiley

Alampasu won't start.... I know that (but if he does, hmmm... Time will tell).

Meanwhile, Moses Simon really need to work on his final ball and finishing... It was evident in the battle of Ndola and this report shows that it is still a problem for him. Apart from that, dude is a super class Act.

On the others... Nothing more need be said... smiley

Well, they will still have their best 11 on parade except for El-hilal Soudani and Boudebouz.

They still have Yaccine Brahimi, Islam Slimani, Riyad Mahrez, Sofiane Feghouli, Nabil Bentaleb, Taider, Ghoulam, Mbolhi (gk), Medjani, etc... The Algerians are loaded.

The likes of Ghezzal, Ounas and whosoever the media reported injured are not starters for Algeria apart from Soudani (their top scorer) and Maybe Boudebouz.

I would have loved them to receive the beating of their lives with their best starting eleven on parade.

Yeah... We will miss Carl Ikeme.

And we will also miss a very in-form Isaac Success (although he is yet to play his first game for the Super Eagles be it competitive and otherwise). These two are the biggest misses for Nigeria ahead of the Uyo battle.

Bar these two... Our best XI (minus 2) will be up against Algeria's best XI (minus 1 or 2).

safarigirl:
we won't even have our best XI

Na so we go dey go these qualifiers? Last game was Leon, this one is Carl, which vital player will miss our next game in 2017?

Interesting line-up which will free up Mikel a lot to conduct plays flanked by Iwobi and Victor Moses and with Nacho leading the lines. smiley

Onazi and Ndidi in the same game... Chaaiiii... This is too solid abeg but also kinda defensive shaa.

Well, a lot of options really.... Ur line-up means no place on the bench for one of Ighalo or Ideye and also no place at all for Etebo to make his "Rohr debut" based on ur substitution choices.. looolllll....

All the same, another interesting line-up.

chrisooblog:
hope the rohr led technical crew impresses on the players not to get complacent just because we are hearing that the algerians are getting injuries here and there. don't understand why etebo and alampasu are coming in late. for young players that want to make an impression this is simply not good enough. hope it's not that elderson is carrying a knock.

my preliminary line-up all things being equal will be

1. Akpeyi 2. Omeruo 3. Elderson (if fit) 4. Ekong 5. Balogun 6. Ndidi 7. Onazi 8. Mikel 9. victor moses 10. iwobi 11. iheanacho

Simon Moses, Musa and Ideye to come in when in need of reinforcements

RIO OLYMPICS HERO ETEBO REVEALS WORK
PERMIT DELAYED EAGLES ARRIVAL

Etebo

Oghenekaro Etebo has revealed he was one of the last arrivals at the Super Eagles training camp in Abuja due to a late application for his work permit in Portugal.

Etebo and Feirense teammate Dele Alampasu
reported to camp Tuesday afternoon in time to be part of the evening training.

“My club did not submit my file to the
immigration office in time, but that has now been settled,” said the 20-year-old forward, who single handedly destroyed Algeria U23s for Nigeria to win the U23 AFCON in Senegal in December.

“It was a delay from my club.”

The Rio Olympics hero has thus far made four
appearances in the top-flight Portuguese league.

LOL funny enough. After watching a player closely even without checking his stats, I know what he brings to the table.
Like khedira, if I relied only on his stats without watching him play I will assume alot of things which are false.
For example, I argued last night that he does not hold the ball on his feet and control the game like Shweistiger, Kross, Alonso, Veratti etc
I was not surprised when I checked his stats and discovered that he makes just 35-55 passes per game.

Stats don't tell everything about a player, however it could be used to paint a picture. cool

3,000 FANS MOB PREMIER LEAGUE STARS
MIKEL, VICTOR MOSES, IWOBI IN TRAINING

Chelsea ace Victor Moses in action against Tanzania

Over 3,000 fans trooped out to cheer the Super
Eagles train in Abuja Tuesday evening with the
biggest cheers reserved for the country’s Premier League stars led by Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi.

Fellow Chelsea star Victor Moses, Alex Iwobi from Arsenal as well as Manchester City’s Kelechi
Iheanacho were also a toast of the crowd at the
training.

“Iwobi please two goals!” chanted a section of the crowd during the training with his father Chuka taking in all the adulation for his 20-year-old son.

The Arsenal youngster scored his first Eagles goal in Zambia last month.

Saturday’s showdown will be battle of Premier
League stars as Algeria also boast their own
contingent from England – Riyad Mahrez, Islam
Slimani (Leicester City), Sofiane Feghouli (West
Ham) and Adlene Guedioura (Watford).

Nabil Bentaleb is also firing for German Bundesliga side Schalke 04 on loan from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur.
