The Implication Of Trump's Presidency On International Freelancing Business by Nobody: 5:08pm On Nov 10, 2016
I became a seller on the popular freelancing site known as Fiverr late July after following a thread in the business section created by beatzone. Surprisingly, I registered and started making sales the same week that I registered. In about 3 months, I made about $2,000 and hoping to operate on the website full time.
From my record, I have so far created about 47 orders out of which about 50% were from the United States (judging from the flag they are flying).
Since the triumph of the Donald Trump in the just concluded US election, I have been thinking about the implication of the victory on the international freelancing business as a Nigerian. It is no longer news that Trump's policy is geared towards stiffening globalisation and that he favors protectionist policy. He, many times during the electioneering campaign, declared his intention to 'bring back American jobs' by blocking job 'leakages'. Truly, freelancing is one of the channels through which non-Americans get American jobs. International freelancing opens the American workers to price competition and in most cases, they loose out!
I and many others (even on this site) already have plans based on the projected income from the freelancing business. Do you think that Trump policies could affect the international freelancing business? Please share your opinion.

I don't foresee any difference.

A lot of his campaign policies are hogwash. He himself is quite clueless in how to achieve them.

Now let's assume he put some restrictions on place to ensure that some jobs go to indigenes. This will mean the companies will have to pay more to staff. Then they will likely turn to online freelance websites instead of hiring indigenes of America in a bid to reduce costs.

So more jobs for freelancers.

But forget all that tory. No change whatsoever. But I am sure online freelancing will get very competitive as more and more people discover these sites.

Good analysis. Hoping to get other views on the subject matter.

Always remember. ..Trump is a businessman.... is he himself not a freelancer?.... freelancing globally to get his products made at the most cost effective factories wherever in the world that may be? So why would he introduce a policy that would hurt his business?

Very sure!.... the businesses that have to fear are the real big ones... like the auto industry...I can bet all my toe nails on that.
