NOW HERE'S THE LATEST....... ....................................................................... ALGERIA TO RISK INJURED NAPOLI DEFENDER FAOUZI GHOULAM Algeria international full-back Faouzi Ghoulam Algeria are now insisting on taking a chance on Napoli defender Faouzi Ghoulam, who is nursing a groin injury, against Nigeria on Saturday. Left back Ghoulam has been treated by ultrasound and MRI and the Algeria medical staff led by Ali Yekdah now say he has shown remarkable improvement. Algeria are now even more positive about the defender after he trained with the rest of the squad before they departed for Nigeria today. He is very crucial to the plans of coach Georges Leekens, who knows that the fast Nigeria attack led by the likes of Ahmed Musa, Moses Simon and Victor Moses could exploit his team’s fullback positions and so the need to line up an experienced player like Ghoulam. The full details of Rohr's revealing words about Mikel-Conte-Chelsea triangle.... ....................................................................... Rohr calls Conte out over Mikel Mikel Obi Technical Adviser of Nigeria’s national team, Gernot Rohr has revealed the reason behind John Mikel Obi's current travails at English Premier League club, Chelsea. Mikel, the current Super Eagles captain, has yet to make a substitute appearance for Chelsea in all competitions this season despite featuring fleetingly for the Stamford Bridge club in pre- season. Rohr has now explained that Mikel has failed to play competitively for Chelsea so far this season because the club’s manager, Antonio Conte “is punishing him” for representing Nigeria at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Mikel was Nigeria’s captain at the 2016 Olympics, impressing as the “Dream Team” won the country’s only medal – a Bronze - at the Games. “I spoke about this with Mikel and the club’s technical director (Michael Emenalo). Mikel is training very well and he plays games in training with the big players at Chelsea. “There is a reason why Mikel is not playing for Chelsea right now and that reason is because he played for Nigeria at the (2016) Olympics. “He was punished for that (by Conte) “I cannot punish a player who loves his country and shows that he loves the Green jersey,” Rohr said at a press conference on Thursday ahead of Nigeria’s 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifier in Uyo on Saturday. Rohr then hinted that the Chelsea man is certain to start on Saturday against the Fennec Foxes at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium. The trainer however stated that he is not certain if Mikel will play the entire game or be substituted at some point against the Algerians. “He (Mikel) is here with us and he is fit and I hope he can play for 90 minutes against Algeria but if it is not possible, we shall see. “He is a big player so if he tells me on Saturday he can play for 90 minutes, great but if he says he cannot, then I will also listen to him. “If he is substituted, we have other players who can come in for us so it is not really a problem for us. “I have seen Mikel in the training sessions and he is okay and fit. “He played a lot of games at the beginning of the season at the Olympics and has also played two games with us (Super Eagles) against Zambia and Tanzania. “I have big confidence in him and if he says ‘it is okay’, then it is okay but when he says ‘it is not okay’ then it is not and I will listen to him,” Rohr explained. MAMELODI SUNDOWNS CONTACT RANGERS FOR OLYMPIC STAR EMMANUEL DANIEL Nigeria U23 goalkeeper Emmanuel Daniel We can exclusively report that recently crowned African champions Mamelodi Sundowns have contacted Rangers for Nigeria Olympic goalkeeper Emmanuel Daniel. “Sundowns wish to sign Emmanuel Daniel and they have already made contact with his club Rangers,” a top club source hinted. “That also explains why several other goalkeepers have now reported to Rangers pre-season camp in Benin City with the latest being a goalkeeper of Asante Kotoko of Ghana.” Daniel was the top choice as Nigeria went on to win bronze at the recent Olympics in Rio. He shut out the more experienced Daniel Akpeyi, who incidentally plays in South Africa for PSL side Chippa United. Former Nigeria U20 shot stopper Emmanuel Daniel has also been involved with the Super Eagles. ‘The Brazilians’, as Sundowns are known by their fans, are shopping for a young and capable cover for Uganda goalkeeper Denis Onyango, who is still sidelined after he injured his head in the CAF Champions League final at Zamalek of Egypt. Former Nigeria winger Ejike Uzoenyi joined Sundowns two years ago from Rangers. TheSuperNerd: What!!! Didn't Mikel ask his club management for exeat before going for the Olympics? Or did he just disobey Chelsea's directive for him to stay put?. Conte has meted enough punishment on Mikel. Or is he bent on ruining his Career when he is at his peak?... Reports has it that he works harder every day in training. Make Mikel tender public apology to the coach and the management of the team. It seems he went against the wishes of his club. What a great sacrifice on his part to sacrifice his place in his club to represent his country. It saddens me to read comments of Nigerians talking ill of a man who gave his all so that we could get a medal in the last Olympics 1 Like |

It is a real shame that Mikel is punished for going to the Olympics. African players have to put up with a lot of crap. This is why you can't blame players for refusing to honour invitations or feigning injury. Sometimes their careers are at stake. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Was it not the same Mikel who said this before the olympics in his column for the Standard UK “It is difficult to leave Chelsea at this time,” he said. “But I explained to the club why I wanted to go and I thank them for their understanding and allowing me to be a part of this. “The coach also gave me his blessing. He told me to make sure I do well and bring back the gold medal!" Na wa sha |

I agree that Mikel should start but I don't buy this idea that it's up to him to say whether he could last for 90 mins. Rohr should be ready to replace Mikel as soon as he shows any signs of tiredness. He was out of it after about 60 mins in Ndola and I was tired that Rohr didn't consider subbing him. I hope the same thing doesn't repeat on Saturday because we can't afford to play minus one player. O pari |

TheSuperNerd: I just can't understand why Emmanuel Daniel was not invited as a replacement for Carl Ikeme instead of Daniel Akpeyi. Daniel is a much better goalkeeper. He was solid in Rio. And not only that, he displaced Akpeyi to become the first choice goalkeeper. So it doesn't add up. O pari |

Nigeria Coach Rohr Blast Agent Of Dutch-Nigerian Defender Tyrone Ebuehi – He is A Bad Agent Coach of the Nigerian national team Gernot Rohr has called out the agent of Dutch Nigerian Tyronne Ebuehi after the full back snub and invitation to be part of the Nigerian team for the World Cup 2018 qualifiers against Algeria. Ebuehi was called up by Nigeria after speaking with coach Rohr but few days later the player told the official website of his club ADO Den Haag that he won’t be honouring the call by Nigeria. The 20 year old said he will rather focus on his club form and will in the future honour subsequent call up to the Nigerian national team. His agent Wessel Weezenberg was reportedly behind the statement released by ADO Den Haag on their official website according to various sources close to the family of the Dutch Nigerian. Rohr was however coy on inviting the full back in the future due to the antics of his agent, whom he called a bad agent. “We try to bring in Tyronne to solve our right back issues. Wilfred Ndidi did not do too badly against Zambia. I spoke to Tyronne and gave him eight days. He told me he would like to play for us”. He said. ”The problem is his agent, who is a bad agent, I don’t know if I will invite Tyronne in the future but this period was a good opportunity for him”. When Oussama Tannane and Hakim Ziyech decided to play for Morocco. They faced major opposition from their Agents, the press and the clubs because they wanted them to play for the Dutch team. It took their personal determination to insist that they wanted to play for Morocco. It appears that Ebuehi's agent is quite influencial to him. I hope Rohr invites him again though. |

TheSuperNerd: Chelsea football club have once again demonstrated they are a club without class. Initially, I couldn't bring myself to belive they really are punishing Mikel for playing at the Olympics. Even when they issued a statement wishing him all the best in Rio. Mikel on his part is too meek and timid for my liking. If it were someone like Samuel Eto, he would have dragged the club to the court of arbitration. Even if he had a year to run in his contract, the club would have been made to pay through their nose adding to the already battered image of the club with the Eva case. I believe Mikel will have the support or FIFA, if he does then FIFA might as well push for the seclusion football from the Olympics. After all, it doesn't serve any concrete purpose since it has been watered down and an U23 tournament |

lakesidepapa:True. Remember when some folks were claiming here on the forum that Conte plans to give Mikel a free role in Chelsea and I laughed them to the scorn. I was the first person here to predict that Conte would offload Mikel. The problem with Mikel is that he plays very timidly when he goes to Chelsea. If he could play the way he plays for the SE at Chelsea , then another top team in Europe would snap him up fast. Now, I heard that he's contemplating moving either to Turkey or to MLS. Personally, I think he's too young to be contemplating such moves. He's only 29, let him stay in Europe. He can definitely find a team in serie A, if no EPL team wants him. O pari |

tbaba1234:Even if he didn't go to the Olympics, he probably won't be playing much either. Unlike Mourinho, Conte doesn't play with DMs as destroyers. He prefers box to box midfielders in the mold of Kante and Matic. Hence, it's only a matter of time before he offloads Mikel even if he didn't went to the Olympics. Not many teams play with stagnant DMs any more....Mikel needs to become a box to box midfielder if he still wants to play for a top team in Europe. He plays that role for the Super Eagles, so I can't understand why he couldn't play that way for Chelsea, especially after Mourinho left. O pari |

Icon79: Mikel went through hell at Chelsea at the beginning of his career. He got unnecessary cards when he tackled. At the slightest chance to retrieve the ball, he got cards. Got sent off in some occasions. He reinvented himself and changed his playing style. Relying more on interceptions than tackles. Using his creative brilliance to read the movement of play, instead of chasing the ball. This turned him into a rock solid defensive midfielder and a reliable option for the different coaches at Chelsea. His loyalty is unparalleled to any. For Nigeria, in games he played as a holding midfielder, he showed the same caution. When he got the liberty to play as a creative attacking midfielder, this takes of the responsibility to shield the defence and he expresses himself with the ball. He can take risk knowing there is cover behind him. The dynamics of shielding the defence is different from playing as a creative midfielder. So expecting Mikel to play the same way as he plays for Nigeria at Chelsea does not match. 1 Like |

TheGoodJoe: Yea, I remember that period. I think the racist English refs really made him a marked man after all the transfer saga between Man Utd and Chelsea over him. But still, I think he reinvented himself a little too much because every one that had played in the same position with him at Chelsea, from Michael Essien to Matic down to Kante, has played as a box to box midfielder. In the modern game, no coach wants a player who can only play on one side of the field (that's the problem Mourinho had with Eden Hazard at Chelsea two season's ago, and that's the problem Pep has with Yaya Toure's game). |

goldfish80: So what exactly would CAS or FIFA do in this instance? Would they force Conte to play Mikel? I mean, it isn't like Chelsea suspended or gave Mikel a fine or anything like that. The coach simply refused to play him. And there's nothing anybody can do about that or else the coach would resign. The only way you can change that is to make yourself so vital to the game that the coach would have no option but to play you if he wants to win. Do you think that Conte would've taken the same action if this was Diego Costa instead of Mikel? No, I don't think so. |
