Oboabana is not a right back. The last time, he played right back for Nigeria against Uganda, he was a disaster. The solution to our right back issues could be this Ebuehi kid or Brian Idowu.

I disagree with you. i have watched him play right back severally. That a player had a bad game with a potpourri of players playing out of position against a team that literally packed the bus never made him a bad player. omeruo was disaster against south africa & luxembourg, shehu was against congo dr in belgium, ndidi was poor against zambia & so was musa against ethiopia at home . So that is not an excuse. He has the experience, exposure and very match ready. He plays week-in week-out. The type of players you play with inspire confidence or panic in you in a game. And the chance of ebuehi & co will always depend hope. To them we will always be second choice.smiley

4-3-2-1? Hmmm.... I know this one. It's kinda different from the 4-2-3-1... The "2" in the formation represents AMFs playing slightly behind the lead forward/top striker and from the sides of the attack and can cut centrally at will....

It's more like a 4-3-3 variant and also can become 4-5-1 and looking closely can become 4-2-3-1 with Nacho up-front. Hmmm... What's Rohr cooking for saturday? What formation will it be if not the normal 4-2-3-1? And what's Ndidi doing in the formation trial? Hmmm...

seems from the list of probables that elderson has fallen out of favour.

the algerians speculated line-up and formation confirms my earlier suspicion that they will adopt a more offensive approach especially in the 1st half. well will know for sure tomorrow.

please any knowledgeable person in house could you educate us on the benefits, risks of the aforementioned formation 3-4-3, 4-3-2-1 in connection to how it will be effective against the algerians.

Unbelievable.. Gernot Rohr is following this thread for real.
I posted exactly this formation before the Zambian game. The only difference was I had Musa Muhammed ahead of Moses because Moses was absent last time out.
This formation could be far fetched. Abit alien to our style but I think a 3-5-2 formation could suit our team.
Something like this..
. . . . . . . . Ikeme. . . . . . .
... Omeruo. . . Leon. . . . Troost

.M.mohamed. . . . Onazi. . . Mikel
. . . . . . . . . . . . .iwobi. . . . . . . . . . . . Musa
. . . . . . . . Iheanacho. . . Ighalo

In this formation, Musa Muhammed would be licensed to push high up the field, just like a winger, when in possession, while the over load in midfield and Omeruo covers for him.
At the last AYC, he almost played like a free winger and got about 5goals. Won the player of the tournament I believe. Lichestiner plays this role for juventus.

In attack, Musa should be cutting in from the left. We all know what he did at the last world cup playing that position. Against South Africa in a friendly, he played from this angle and got a goal. He could be more prolific than moses playing there.

Iheanacho will support Odion and drop to the middle to help control the game, while Iwobi plays a free role which is his most natural position although he was trained at arsenal to play any role in attack even as a striker.

The Zambians will struggle to get out of their own half if we play a prototype like this. As they will be strangled to submission right there in Ndola.

as much as I like d inventive nature of our coach, by trying out different formation like d 3 5 2 and d 3 4 3 and so on. dis formations has its strength and at d same time its weakness, let's ask yourself dis question do we hv d players to play dis formation, do we hv wat it takes to pull it off against d number one team in Africa with all these variants we re experimenting on, hw re u sure d wing BKS won't over lap and leave d centre BKS exposed for d likes of mahrez and slimani to pounce on. we re not Chelsea neither re we juventus. these clubs hv spent weeks perfecting their strategy while juventus hv started using dat formation, only God knw when. we just had 3 or 4 days to prepare. But at d same time it giv us victory tommorow u Neva can tell because I don't tink d Algerians will think we will line up in dat manner and dey might be caught off guard. All in all I leave it tod coach but whatever way he lines d super eagles up let it be wat suits d players and their style of play

This is for the sake of Iheanacho at City under Pep... I made a reference to Pep and Kimmich's growth at Bayern... Well, here is a revelation... Especially of what Pep told Joshua Kimmich after the dortmund game in pep's final season.

......................................................................

“You aced it” – Guardiola’s conversation
with Kimmich following draw with Dortmund

What was said during a heated on-pitch
discussion between Pep Guardiola and Joshua Kimmich in after a Bayern Munich match with Borrussia Dortmund has now been revealed.

Bayern drew 0-0 with rivals Dortmund in the
Bundesliga in March and at the final whistle
Guardiola was seen having a fiery conversation
with his young player.

The nature of the exchange had been the subject of much speculation, but not anymore it seems, as journalist Marti Perarnau, the author of a behind-the-scenes look at Guardiola’s time in Munich, Pep Confidential, has lifted the lid in his latest book Pep Evolution.

Guardiola was annoyed that Kimmich hadn’t
obeyed his instructions, passed through
substitute Medhi Benatia, to change position and go into midfield.

Here’s how Perarnau, who has unparalleled
access to the man himself, says the conversation went:

“Did you hear Benatia’s instructions?”

“Sorry Pep, I didn’t.”

“F***! You were meant to move into centre
midfield!”

‘I’m really sorry. I just didn’t hear him.”

“I wanted you to move in front of the defensive
line and maintain that position but instead you
moved away from that organising position and we lost control. I need you to listen when people pass on my instructions.”

“I’m so sorry. I had no idea…”

“You were brilliant out there today Josh. Really,
really good. I told you could do it!”

Joshua Kimmich completed 95% of his passes in
Bayern’s 0-0 draw with Dortmund on March 5.

“Thanks Pep. It was a hard game but I did okay in the end.”

“What do you mean “okay”? You f***ing aced it.

You were bloody sensational Josh. Sensational!
I’m so proud of you.”

..............
Guardiola, who moved to take over at Manchester City in the summer, has been instrumental in the development of Kimmich, who can play as a right- back, centre-back and in midfield.

The youngster made 23 appearances in the
Bundesliga across the 2015/16 season,
impressing with his maturity and adaptability to
be called up for Germany’s Euro 2016 squad.

This season Kimmich has gone from strength to
strength, scoring four goals in eight league
matches as he enjoys a more attacking role.

My preferred formation would be same line up against Zambia with omeruo replacing Wilfred ndidi at right back, then Victor Moses comes in ahead of Moses Simon.. Ideye should start upfront or kelechi as cf and etebo as SS.. Funny how Ahmed Musa has fallen down the pecking order.. Echejiele remains our weakest link

Rohr confirms Akpeyi will be in goal against Algeria

Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr has confirmed Daniel Akpeyi will be in goal against Algeria tomorrow in the absence of injured Carl Ikeme.

Speculations have been rife who will be in Nigeria’s goal in the absence of first-choice Ikeme with Akpeyi, Dele Alampasu and Ikechukwu Ezenwa all in the frame to start this World Cup qualifier.

“They have some injuries, we also have some injuries - Carl (Ikeme) our goalkeeper is not there, but Daniel (Akpeyi) is a good goalkeeper too,” Rohr said after the team’s final training this evening in Uyo, which lasted an hour.

As we have exclusively reported, Akpeyi, a late replacement for Ikeme, will be in goal tomorrow because of his experience at this level.

It was a difficult decision to take going by the performance of Alampasu in training, but in the end it was agreed for Chippa United of South Africa shot stopper Akpeyi to be given the nod.

Former Warri Wolves star Akpeyi was also in goal for the absent Ikeme in March against Egypt in Alexandria.

Experience wins Akpeyi Eagles No.1 shirt after fierce goalkeeping battle

The experience of South Africa-based goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi has won him a starting place in tomorrow’s World Cup qualifier against Algeria, but youngster Dele Alampasu pushed him all the way.

With first-choice Carl Ikeme ruled out of the match due to injury, speculations have raged on over the goalkeeper to be between the sticks against the Desert Foxes.

Portugal-based Alampasu has shone in training, but he will not be considered for the No.1 spot because he has yet to make his full international debut after appearances for the country’s U17 and U20s.

FC IfeanyiUbah star Ikechukwu Ezenwa lost out because the Nigeria league has been on break for the past six weeks, officials informed.

“Akpeyi will be in goal against Algeria,” a team official disclosed.
“His experience won him his place.

“Otherwise, Alampasu has really impressed in training, but the coaches do not want to take a gamble on an uncapped player in such an important game like the match against Algeria tomorrow.

“The choice of the goalkeeper to start was not easy as various scenarios were looked at before it was finally decided to go with Akpeyi.”

Akpeyi also deputised for Ikeme in March in a 2017 AFCON qualifier against Egypt in Alexandria.

Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr has said he expects fans to fill up the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo and cheer the Super Eagles to victory tomorrow against Algeria.

A win at home on Saturday will consolidate Nigeria’s leadership of their World Cup qualifying group after they won 2-1 in Zambia last month and Algeria and Cameroon cancelled each other in Blida.

“The fans should help us to win this game,” urged Rohr.

“What I can assure everyone is that the team will fight on the pitch, they will give everything.
“We will have a big game.”

He also disclosed that all 23 players are fit and available for selection.

In the meantime, the Eagles will have their final training by 4pm today at the training pitch of the Godswill International Stadium, while the visiting Algerians work out inside the mainbowl of the arena.

Rohr - Mikel may not play full 90 minutes vs Algeria

Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr has said skipper Mikel Obi, who has been shut out by Chelsea this season, will start against Algeria tomorrow, but he is not sure he will complete this World Cup qualifier.

The Chelsea midfielder played the full duration against Zambia last month, but Rohr hauled him off in the 63rdminute against Tanzania in September and afterwards said the player was injured.

“He (Mikel) is here with us and he is fit and I hope he can play for 90 minutes against Algeria, but if it is not possible, we shall see,” Rohr said at a media briefing.

“He is an influential player and I expect him to motivate others from the opening minute, but what I cannot tell you is if he has the strength to play full time.

“If he is substituted, we have other players who can come in for us so it is not really a problem for us.

“He played a lot of games at the beginning of the season at the Olympics and has also played two games with us (Super Eagles) against Zambia and Tanzania.

“I have big confidence in him and if he says ‘it is okay’, then it is okay, but when he says ‘it is not okay’, then it is not and I will listen to him.”

Kelechi Iheanacho vs Tanzania in Uyo in September.

The Super Eagles have approved the pitch of the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo ahead of tomorrow’s World Cup qualifier against Algeria.

Eagles coach Gernot Rohr and several players complained about the state of the pitch after a 1-0 win over Tanzania in September.

However, Eagles assistant coach Imama Amapakabo said there has been remarkable improvement to the turf since the game against Tanzania.

“The pitch is in a lot better condition, a big improvement from the last time we played Tanzania here,” said Imama.

Israel-based midfielder John Ogu also commended the condition of the pitch.

The Akwa Ibom State Government has assured the pitch will be worked on for Saturday’s game and there were several inspection visits including one with officials from the Algeria Football Federation (FAF) led by their vice-president.

Chelsea loanee Omeruo favourite to play Eagles right back

Eagles defender Omeruo

by Samm Audu

Chelsea loanee Kenneth Omeruo is widely tipped to fill in at Eagles problematic right back position against Algeria tomorrow.

Coach Gernot Rohr admitted the problem of the team at right back in Thursday’s media briefing and that caused him to call up Holland-based Tyronne Ebuehi, who subsequently turned down the invitation.

Turkey-based Musa Mohammed, who manned the position with distinction against Tanzania as well friendlies against Mali and Luxembourg, has been kept out by Rohr because he does not get game time at his club.

Shehu Abdullahi has also played in that position and even though he has recovered from an ankle knock, while Wilfred Ndidi was played there in Zambia.

But it is now looking clearer that Omeruo will play there on Saturday.

Central defender Omeruo, an international since 2013, is playing regularly at Turkish club Alanyaspor on a season-long loan from Chelsea and played in that position during his loan spell at Dutch club ADO Den Haag.

A team official informed: “Omeruo will most likely play from right back, which remains a problem for us.

“He played at central defence against Zambia and it was his mistake that led to the home team’s goal, but he still remains a good player.”

Nigeria under Rohr face sternest test against Algeria

Gernot Rohr - Nigeria coach

by Samm Audu

Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr has admitted Algeria will provide his team with their biggest test yet when both teams clash in a decisive 2018 World Cup qualifier in Uyo on Saturday.

Former Niger, Gabon and Burkina Faso coach Rohr has endeared himself to even critics who questioned his credentials and choice as the Super Eagles handler in July after he won his first two games in charge.

In September, he supervised a wasteful Eagles team to beat visiting Tanzania 1-0 in a final 2017 AFCON qualifier.

And the following month, he masterminded a first-ever win in Zambia to get Nigeria’s World Cup qualifying campaign off to a winning start.

“This is one of our biggest games because Algeria are one of the top teams in Africa,” said the Franco-German coach, who has thrown youngsters like Alex Iwobi and Kelechi Iheanacho into the deep-end with great success.

“It will be difficult, but I am confident in my players to do the maximum to win this game.”

The Eagles have been fortified for this game with the return of William Troost-Ekong, Oghenkaro Etebo and Victor Moses, who is enjoying a new lease of life at Chelsea after countless loan spells.

Algeria will be gunning for a result in Nigeria after they were forced to a 1-1 draw by Cameroon in front of their own fans.

The Desert Foxes have gone through some changes since that draw in Blida with Belgian coach Georges Leekens replacing Milovan Rajevac, who quit after a dressing room row with the country’s top stars.

It’s Leekens second spell with the North Africans and his baptism of fire will be against a team who have regained some self-belief and enjoy a better head-to-head record – 8 wins, 3 draws and 6 losses.

The former Belgium coach’s debut has not been made any easier by injuries to key players like Ryad Boundebouz, Hilal Soudani and Rachid Ghezzal.

Napoli left back Faouzi Ghoulam is “touch and go” as he is battling a groin problem.

But the form of 21-year-old midfielder Nabil Bentaleb at German Bundesliga club Schalke 04 would most certainly be a huge boost.

On loan from Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur, he has rattled in five goals in six competitive games and as a result Schalke have agreed to keep him for another season.

Top star is winger Riyad Mahrez has struck a good understanding with countryman and top striker Islam Slimani at Leicester City this season.

But despite his potent attacking arsenal, Leekens will be cautious with the main objective being that they cannot afford to lose in Nigeria.

Super Eagles aim to give Georges Leekens a nightmare debut

Nigeria will be looking to give new Algeria coach Georges Leekens a nightmare debut when the teams meet in Uyo on Saturday evening for a 2018 World Cup qualifier. The match will be staged at the Akpabio International Stadium, kick-off at 18h00 CAT.

Nigeria opened their Group B campaign with a 2-1 away win over Zambia in Ndola last month: promising youngsters Kelechi Iheanacho and Alex Iwobi scored the goals for the Super Eagles, whose perfect start to the third round has raised hopes of a third successive World Cup appearance and a sixth overall.

Algeria, on the other hand, were left somewhat disappointed by their 1-1 draw with Cameroon in Blida. Hillel Soudani’s early goal was not enough to see off the Indomitable Lions, who fought back to level the game through Benjamin Moukandjo and deny the Fennec Foxes all three points.

That game proved to be the last in charge for coach Milovan Rajevac, who left his post after a revolt from the Algerian players. The North Africans have since appointed former Tunisia coach Georges Leekens and the Belgian admits that facing Nigeria away will be a tough prospect.

“Being good will not be enough there, we have to be 200 percent and most effective. Nigeria will be a very difficult match, I supervised and I analysed their game, we still have a lot of work because our opponents have grown enormously,” said Leekens.

Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr had similar sentiments in regards to the Fennec Foxes: “It will be difficult against Algeria because they are No.1 in Africa. But we will try to beat them to have a good position in our qualifying group,” said the German.

The teams have met in 16 official international matches according to FIFA statistics, with six wins apiece.

The other Group B match this weekend sees Cameroon host Zambia in Limbe on Saturday evening, kick-off at 17h00 CAT.

I am really heartbroken for Alampasu. Two heartbreaks in a week. The Hillary Clinton's loss ripped my heart and this.

I need the Super Eagles to win to lighten me up. I need this win.

Props Alampasu. Keep working hard and believing.
Now is time for "experience", tomorrow will be time for the young but "promising talent".

AF Nigeria 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers - Africa Barcelona
Alex Iwobi will reject Barcelona millions for Arsenal - his father

Nigeria poster boy Alex iwobi showing off the new kits Nigeria will wear against Algeria tomorrow.

Alex Iwobi will turn down a big-money move to mighty Barcelona to stay at Arsenal because he is still learning the trade, according to his father.

The 20-year-old Nigeria international has been at ‘The Gunners’ since he was six and he is now a first teamer.

His father, Chuka, said his son is still developing at the top London club and would rather stay put there.

“In football, you never say no. But at this point in time, he is at the right place. He’s doing well at Arsenal, but should any club come for him now, the answer would certainly be no,” said Iwobi senior, a lawyer, who also played semi-professionally in Nigeria for Vasco da Gama of Enugu.

“For him now, it’s not about the money.

“So, should a club like Barcelona come with more money, he will certainly stay back at Arsenal because now it is not about him making money, it’s about him concentrating on his career, progressing and going on to the next stage.”

He recounted: “I took him to Arsenal when he was 6 and they signed when he was 8. All he has known is Arsenal. He has never gone on loan, he has always been with Arsenal.

“He has broken into the first team and what they all talk about is his humility. Personally, that’s very important because when a player starts getting arrogant that’s when the player fails.

“It’s been good, God has been great.

“I see him being in Arsenal for very many, many years.”

October 9, 2016, was “an exceptional day” for the young Arsenal forward, according to his father.

“He scored his first goal for his country (vs Zambia) and he coped with the physicality of African football, you have to be strong to be play in Africa,” he revealed.

REVEALED: Algeria Training Hard On Freekicks To Wreck Eagles, Coach Keen On Counter Attack

According to leaks gathered by Owngoalnigeria.com, the Desert Foxes of Algeria have been training very hard on freekicks ahead of their World Cup 2018 qualifiers tie against Nigeria.

They will have their first session at the Nest of Champions Stadium in Uyo, venue of the game and according to reports they will lay emphasis on taking their chances via set pieces.

Before departing for Nigeria, the team worked on various freekicks methods both direct and indirect, especially from around the box during training.

Algeria depleted by injuries to key players are also planning to line up a defensive formation, which will see them aim to catch the Super Eagles on the break with quick counter attacks.

Nigeria are currently top of group B in the CAF World Cup 2018 qualifiers after beating Zambia 2-1 away in Ndola, while Algeria are presently joint second with Cameroun after both teams play out a 1-1 draw in Algiers.

EXCLUSIVE: Agent To Ex Nigeria Coach Reveals Untold Secret On Why Super Eagles Players Struggle In Uyo

Emma Ado , who is the agent to late Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi has revealed why the Nigeria national team don’t live up to expectation whenever they play at the Nest of Champions Stadium in Uyo.

Ado in an exclusive interview with Owngoalnigeria.com says Nigeria’s poor record in Uyo goes beyond the playing surface of the nest of champions.

Nigeria have only won once at the magnificent stadium, and according to Ado it is so because the night life of the town and the activities at the hotel, where the Eagles are usually lodged is a distraction.

”My brother, Uyo has it’s own peculiar night life, this players find it hard to resist. One clear case was the game that denied Nigeria qualification for the 2015 Cup of Nations. A lot happened”.
He told Owngoalnigeria.com.

”We heard an allegation against a player but my late brother and coach Keshi didn’t believe it until he saw how poor the player was on the match day, the size of the hotel makes controlling the players difficult.

”Also the night life gets to the players even if they don’t go out, they have their own way of making things happen without the knowledge of the coaches.

”My advice to coach Gernot Rohr is for him to use both the team security and the police to monitor the movement in and out of the hotel, else we will be running the risk of having tired players on the pitch”.

Nigeria Vs Algeria: Iheanacho, Iwobi Are Eagles Weapon Of Attack - Akpoborie

By Augustine Akhilomen

Ex international, Jonathan Akpoborie believes Super Eagles duo of Kelechi Iheanacho and Alex Iwobi are Nigeria's weapon of attack if the team must qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Iheanacho's new scoring form in the colours of Manchester City and the senior national team has been welcomed with delight from the technical crew of the Super Eagles.

He was on the scorer's sheet alongside Iwobi in the Super Eagles 2-1 win over the Chipolopolo of Zambia in a 2018 World Cup qualifier in Ndola.

Applauding Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Genort Rohr for injecting youth and experience into the new team, the former Wolfsburg striker told Soccernet.com.ng that Iheanacho and Iwobi are the new pride of the team and are capable of leading the Eagles goal charge.

"Presently, I feel so happy that the current crop of players in the Super Eagles are showing the spirit of the past going by their last win against Zambia in Ndola," Akpoborie told Soccernet.com.ng.

"Besides, the duo of Kelechi Iheanacho and Alex Iwobi are Nigeria's greatest weapon of attack considering their age and the fact that they play in two of the best clubs in Europe; Manchester City and Arsenal.

"Moreover, credit should go to the technical crew, headed by Genort Rohr for blending youth and experience into the team and I believe that they will qualify for the World Cup," he said.

Algerian FA Play Down Reports Olympic Star Was Denied A Visa By Nigerian Embassy

The Algerian Football Federation have played down reports in the local and foreign press, includinga llnigeriasoccer.com, in which it was claimed that NA Hussein Dey midfielder Sofiane Bendebka did not travel with the Desert Foxes squad to Uyo because he was not granted a visa in time by the Embassy of Nigeria in Algiers.

Sofiane Bendebka was handed a late call-up to the Algerian squad following the uncertainty surrounding the availability of Napoli ace Faouzi Ghoulam, who eventually was in the 23-player traveling party to Uyo on Thursday.

The Algerian Federation have disputed the reports and thanked the Nigerian embassy for their assistance.

“The leaders of the FAF were surprised to learn that some media have linked the unavailability of Sofiane Bendebka for the trip to Uyo with a visa problem,” the Algeria Federation stated on their official webpage.

“They hold therefore to dismiss these reports and to reiterate their thanks to officials of the Nigerian Embassy.”

Bendebka made his senior debut in an African Cup of Nations qualifier versus Seychelles in June.

Dad To Watch Man City Wonderkid Iheanacho Bid To Etch His Name Into Nigeria History Books

Kelechi Iheanacho’s father, James Iheanacho, will be among the spectators at the Akwa Ibom International Stadium on Saturday, as the Manchester City striker bids to etch his name into the Super Eagles history books.

Having scored in each of his last four matches, the 20-year-old will become the first Nigerian player to score in five consecutive matches for the senior national team if he finds the back of the net against the Desert Foxes.

“I just arrived in Uyo and I will be at the stadium tomorrow. I am assuring you he will score against Algeria and that’s why I came from Owerri to support him, ”said James Iheanacho to
allnigeriasoccer.com.

“I will see him this night and tell him to make sure he scores against Algeria. ”

Kelechi Iheanacho scored his first goal in 2016 against Mali in May, then carried on where he left off in the next game against Luxembourg, and kept that run going against Tanzania and Zambia.
