TheGoodJoe:no defender he pulled that stunt on will Mark him with good intentions if he dares crosses his lane another time. and more over Wenger doesn't like that kind of fancy football |

blueto: We had deadly forwards flanking Iheanacho. The misplaced passes and poor control came from the closely marked defenders. Even passes meant to connect to him came with force because our forwards and midfielders had to find him in tight situations. This is why he had challenges. Not because he is not effective there. Rohr picked him to play that role after coming up with the most effective strategy to nullify the Algerians. The beauty of this option, was the room our forward players played in. Mikel, Iwobi and Moses had room to cause havoc to the Algerians defence. Mikel had chances before the first goal came. Without Moses, Success or S. Moses might have the chance to score the goals. In a different scenario where Iheanacho is not closely marked, he will rip the post repeatedly. His mobility is phenomenal. The goal he missed was due to his exceptional mobile movements. The header he did not reach was a result of his speed and intelligence. Even though the cross was far, he was alert and fast. The problem Iheanacho had was we did not create clean chances for him. This was due to him being closely marked. It worked our favour. |

krattoss: It was the best choice Iwobi made. That is what matters. Most other options would have landed the ball with the opposition. Okocha played with more guts in the EPL and I never found his legs in the stands. Defenders stand the risk of a red card with reckless tackles. |

BascoVanVeli:that was really provocative and uncalled for.. I remember pundits warning neymar of his antics and provocative dribbles.. u saw how one malaga defender elbowed him when he was try ing to nutmeg the dude.. many players can do plenty of skills for showoffs.. but when it comes to business.. u gats respect u'r opponents.. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 10:28am On Nov 13, 2016 |
krattoss: I repeat, that skill was the best option. Iwobi is not the kind of player that shows off for no reason. It was a tight situation. I did not see another option. So the term uncalled for is not the right phrase. Or, you will prefer Iwobi handing over possession instead of using that skill to get the ball to a safer place. |

TheGoodJoe:I believe it is hatred. If Mikel or any other player took one for the team like Onazi did and got injured as a result, everybody would have given him Kudos. Onazi hardly got a mention for his heroics rather he was thrown under the bus for not marking 3 Algerians on the rampage prior to the goal. 1 Like |

enomakos:bros if u watch football and have the ability to read games like i do u will know the indomitable lions of cameroun of 2dy is not the feared camerounian team of the era of the etoo's, geremi njitap, rigobert song, etame mayer, patrick mboma, pierre wome, Timotée Atouba, Pius N'Diefi, the late Marc-Vivien Foé, Salomon Olembé just to mention a few, this present camerounian team na wash, they cant attack, they are no more the lions we know them to be. aside vincent Aboubaka and moukandjo, i see no other threat. on the other hand, the super eagles are gradually working their way back to the summit of African football with a lot of deadly and bright tallents opposing teams should be wary of. we go beat them home and away. i rest my case 1 Like |

goldfish80:I did maintain the idea that he was better as an attacking midfielder, but something I trust coaches decisions to make him lead an attack, I think it is because iheanacho must have impressed them in trainings playing in such position, but general I don't like when a player's incipient position is changed, it doesn't make much sense to me. |

The falconets of Nigeria playing rubbish presently against japan under 20 female national side at this ongoing world cup, what did peter dedevbo tell his girls, why are they playing this bad? no ball control. cant string 2 passes together, always ballooning the balls away instead of holding the ball, make good short passes, and work ur way towards the opponets goal, such a waste, rasheedat Ajibade is not finding it easy either, the whole team is playing bad. 2-0 down in the 1st half, and conceeding another 3 goals in the 2nd half presently, and its just 62 minutes played, 5-0 down. what a calamity, and this girls will later play canada (beaten 5-0 by spain in the opening match) and then meeting spain (5-0 winners over Canada.) we should prepare to come bck home, just like the under 17 female team to the just concluded world cup, we lack bite, no eye for goals, no good passes, lack confidence and the list goes on. bala nkiyu and peter dedevbo are tactically bankkrupt, clueless and bereft of ideas, and appears to be lost most of the time. i dey vex abeg. |

goldfish80: I have rewatched the match and I still don't get your point. The Algerians had 3 clear cut chances arising from Onazi's inabilities. The first one was because he couldn't even keep up with Brahimi who wipped in a cross that was put over. The second one, Mahrez had all the time to shoot inside our box and our 'DMF' wasn't closing him down at all. We were not troubled because of Etebo's engine, Onazi was average or even below that. If you gave Akpeyi a 7 rating for one mistake which was actually caused by Onazi's mistake, then Onazi should get a 6 maximum |

Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by goldfish80(m): 12:05pm On Nov 13, 2016 |
Mickael2: Let's run a bit of tactical analysis on the two actions you pointed out shall we... The first picture shows Onazi engaging Brahimi while Omeruo who should be closer to action was a few paces behind Onazi and Brahimi. Brahimi time and time again as we have seen over the years will out pace most defenders and DMs in a foot race. The second picture shows Onazi very close to action again. Elderson should have been the guy charging on Mahrez but he was down, Onazi tried to cover for him, in doing so, Mikel would have marked Benteleb. Lucky enough Mahrez didn't pass the ball to Brahimi who was in hectares of space offered him with Iwobi's loose marking. Funny enough, the much heralded Etebo was not in the picture in the two actions analysed.

Mickael2:In the few minutes I watched the game, I saw, control, skill and confidence in the Cameroonian side. I believe we have a stronger side but the Cameroonians did not look like pushovers to me. In those closing minutes, the Zambian goalkeeper pulled off two beautiful saves and the Zambians parked the bus throughout I watched the game. 2 Likes |

goldfish80: what you said here makes absolutely zero sense. In the first instance, Omeruo was out of position because we were attacking, it was a mistake by Iheanacho don't forget, what is the work of a DMF? They cover for fullbacks when they attack and Onazi failed woefully there, so we should clap for him that he was roundly beaten by Brahimi? He didn't do his job there. In the second one, I don't even understand what you said. Echejile went to cover for Balogun who went to cover for Ekong and they were able to block the first strike before the ball fell to Mahrez in a central role, whose job is it to cover the space infront of the defenders? Is it not the CB? The ball was inside our box, the AMF in such a position will cover the front of the box not the inside of it. If this happened in a setup like Barca, so you will say that Iniesta should be there? Isn't that Busquet's zone? Can't understand your bias at all 2 Likes |

goldfish80: what was Onazi doing in that second goal? Echejile was down because they blocked the first shot, what was Onazi doing at the left side of defence?! You have a LB and a LCB and both were charging the ball, for God's sake maintain your own position closer to the edge of the box |

I remember saying on this thread, when the formation came out that Kelechi cannot play as a lone striker. Well, we've seen that. He's least effective in that role, hopefully, Rohr can play him behind Etebo or with Etebo in the next match. No one has to be dropped from this team |
