Thanks for you collaboration. I am not from Nigeria, I rather am from an Arab, developing country. I believe an appropriate degree like Master's is a good choice as you mentioned. However, any good alternatives to show that I'm not a candidate for migration? In addition to a credible program , you would need to show home ties as well .......something tying you to your home country like maybe spouse in your home country , financial investment at home, job u are coming back to etc ..... 1 Like |

Bebenahda: Hey all,
I have applied for F1 visa a couple of months ago but was denied it. At the time of application, I was a senior-year bachelor student, now I'm a graduate.
My visa application was on a 10-week English programme.
The interview went as follows:
VO: hello, have a seat please Me: hello
VO: why do you want to study English in X state? Me: why do I want to study English in X state ? VO: yes
Me: well, my friend last year has joined the same programme and his English has improved by a great deal, specially his writing skills
VO: So, you have your family in the US? Me: Yes, my parents and one sibling. For my sibling has X disease and is there for medical treatment.
VO: How long have your family been there? Me: almost 4 months
VO: what is their visa? Me: Medical treatment, visitor
VO: Are you a current student? Me: yes, a senior-year student.
VO: what is the duration of the English programme? Me: 10 weeks
VO: ( typing for a while) I cannot approve your visa, you are not eligible. Me: ok thanks.
I still am not sure about the reason of rejection. I repeated the first question because I didn't know what the VO meant; why do I want to study English? Or why do I want to study in X state?
Now that I am a graduate, what are my chances of getting an F1 visa based on the same programme, and having my parents and sibling as asylum seekers in the US?
* I'm not intending to stay in the US beyond the period of stay of the programme. How can you be a degree graduate in Nigeria, and still, you want to claim F1 visa to study a 10-week certificate program in US, besides the fact that the mode of instruction in Nigerian schools is entirely English. Bro, we know not all of us wanna study in America, but look for something persuasive to the VOs, like master's programs, maybe when you arrive you change to something else. Sorry if my response doesn't satisfy your need. That's just my opinion. 2 Likes |

Thanks guys for your help.
I am not from Nigeria, I am from an Arab country.
And yes there was a seat, and the interview was inside a separate room from the waiting one.
Generally, the interview is done while standing, and in front of people. But the day I did it, all the people were asked to enter an adjacent room when their turn came. 1 Like |

Ajibade105: Hello,
I got this message from my preferred supervisor. What do you guys think about the message. Find below the message;
@Lagosismyhome @happyday @Walspring
Thanks.If you are interested in working with me, I would advise that you apply to the program through the Mathematics and Statistics Department and make clear that you wish to work with me on biostatistics/infectious disease methodology.
I cannot, of course, promise you a position in my group. This is partly because it is not my decision alone – the Department makes the final decision about whether entry to a program is allowed or not — and also I would have to offer positions to the best applications that come in. However, your CV/background does look impressive and I could certainly see you fitting in with my group.In terms of potential projects, there are numerous things you could work on. For example, I have projects involving infectious disease modelling, implementing computational algorithms for fitting these models to data. I also have a project looking at using similar models to model fire spread.
Alternatively, there will likely be chances to analyse data sets using high-level, but less computational, statistical techniques. for example, using statistical/machine learning tools such as random forests.
It's hard to predict what the project would actually look like since research probably wouldn't start for 18 months from now given that as an MSc student you would be doing courses for the first two semesters. Most of my students I give a choice of possible projects near the time, and let them choose. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks. Hi Ajibade, seems like you are applying for graduate study in Statistics. I have similar interest too. I hope you don't mind me contacting you. Thank you. |

How is that any better? As far as I know, the vast majority of tourist visas are denied due to the immigration thing.
It's been 1 year 8 month since my family left, would that have any positive effect on tourist visa tho? |

OGreene: Haaa, cancel B1 visa, havent heard that before.
i thought if i have an existing B1 visa (for 5-yrs) and later get F1, i can resume with the F1 and still hv my B1 reading.
Please clarify
I don't know when they start issuing B1 visa for 5 years but you can't have both b1 and f1 at the same time because one has to bow down for one at the POE You will need to take one either F1 or B1, I could remember someone who flew down few months ago, according to her, her B1 was canceled since she is going for studying and the student visa is what she will be using since that's her new status.. I hope I explain it better ? |

safex101: my transcript.. The interview was very fast, special thanks to GOD
VO: Good morning, how are you doing today, Can I have your passport and I20 please(with a big smile on his face) ME: Good morning I am fine( I gave him the passport and all other doc,including ds160, sevis, gtb receipt. He selected the i20 and the passport out and returned the others.) VO : Tell me about the information technology program at NIU ME: Actually the program name is MIS not IT ( but I.T was written on the i20 form) VO : He looked at the I20 , Okay just tell me about the MIS program at NIU ME: I will be taking courses like ( I listed some of the courses), I will be completing the program in approximately 24 months, (He cuts in) VO: What is your undergraduate course Me: Business Administration VO : Why the switch ME : It is really not a switch, Business administration covers, MIS, HRM, marketing and few others and businesses in Nigeria is moving from manual systems to automated systems of operation, computerized methodology is being integrated in business procedures even in decision making (I stopped immediately I saw him take my pp and kept it inside the small basket and brought out the white paper )
I am not sure if he said your visa has been approved or all that formalities, only what I heard was when he gave me back my i20 and said you will be needing this and circled the white collection paper. I said thank you sir.
congratulations |
