10 Most Urbanized States In Nigeria - Ovoko.com by Ovokoo: 11:40am On Nov 16, 2016 |
Here is a list of states in Nigeria that are highly urbanized beyond the state capital or the largest city. http://ovoko.com.ng/10-most-urbanized-states-in-nigeria/ 10. Kaduna Kaduna state is probably the most urbanized state up north. The former capital of Northern region can boast of Kaduna which is the capital as well as Zaria, Kachia and other places. 9. Oyo Not only is Oyo state highly urbanized but its cities are also large and highly populated. Apart from Ibadan which is reputed as the largest city in Nigeria in land mass, the state also boast of towns such as Oyo, Ogbomoso and smaller towns which includes Shaki, Iseyin and Igbo ora. 8. Akwa Ibom The oil rich state of Akwa Ibom does not play with its towns as it can boast of Uyo which is the state capital and also a contender of the most beautiful city in Nigeria. It also boast of smaller towns such as Eket, Ikot Ekpene and Oron. 7. Abia Abia state is home to the industrial and commercial city of Aba. Apart from this famous city, Aba boast of Umuahia which is the state capital as well as other smaller towns such as Arochukwu, Ohafia and Bende. 6. Ogun Ogun state has been growing in leaps and bounds owing to its close proximity in Lagos. Ogun state can boast of things that other states except Lagos and Abuja cannot boast of. Apart from Abeokuta which is the state capital, other towns have held their own in different parts of the state. Some notable mentions include Ijebu Ode, Sagamu and Sango Otta which due to its close proximity to Nigeria’s economic capital, probably houses the largest industrial estate in Nigeria. The lagos/Ibadan axis of the state is also another place waiting to explode as it has seen a monumental migration of powerful religious centers and an upsurge of residential estates. 5. Rivers The reason is because Port-hacourt is miles ahead of other town in the state but when you look outside the state, you will come to appreciate some of the other cities that Rivers state boast of which are more urbanized and wealthy than some state capitals. The likes of Omoku, Bonny Island, opobo, Khana , Okrika, Ahoada and smaller towns like Okwuzi/Mgbede are also pulling their weight. 4. Delta The oil state is usually referred to as a mini Nigeria owing to the conglomeration of diverse ethnic groups in the state. These groups are also proud of their respective homeland and have made it something to be proud of. There are cities and mini cities scattered all over the state. From Warri, which is the economic capital to Asaba which is the political capital. Other smaller cities such as Agbor, Ughelii, Sapele are also holding their own. 3. Anambra Anambra state is the third on our list because of the fact that it houses the commercial capital of the east, the automobile capital of Nigeria as well as the state capital. Beyond Onitsha, Nnewi and Awka, other smaller towns such as Ihiala, Ekwulobia, Obosi, Oba, Aguata, Nkpor etc are relatively urbanized. 2. Abuja Abuja is Nigeria’s political capital and it has come to be a competition for Lagos state. Abuja is the second most urbanized state/territory after Lagos as it boast of development and economic activity in every nook and cranny of the capital. Popular places in Abuja are Wuse, Maitama, Garki, Gudu and so many more. 1. Lagos Lagos is by far the most urbanized and economic capital of Nigeria. It is the only conurbation that exists in the whole of Nigeria. With every city in Lagos merging together to form a megapolis. Every part of the state/city is urbanized but popular cities in Lagos includes Ikeja, Lagos Island, Osodi, Amuwo odofin, Alimosho, Iyana Ipaja, badagry amongst others. MyGeneration: He isn't talking about states with more beautiful cities but most urbanized states. Many of these states are just one local government urban areas while some states have more. Notice IMO and Enugu are not there because though they have finer capitals, they don't have many places that are urbanized. Now you get? 125 Likes 10 Shares |

Lol, anambra is before ogun and oyo state. Most people underrate oyo state. Oyo state was the capital of old western region, It has many industrial estates. Ibadan is a commercial city, many don't know that Ibadan was the largest city in west Africa. Oyo people don't usually shout. Ogun has cities. Ijebu ode, sagamu, ifo, sango Ogun has the highest number industries in Nigeria, it is closer to the Benin border which makes it thrives economically Ogun has the highest number of public tertiary institutions and private tertiary institutions. Ogun alone has four international stadia, otunba Dipo Dina international stadium, ijebu ode, sagamu international stadium, ilaro international stadium, and Mko Abiola international stadiums. Ogun has olokola free trade zone in collaboration with ondo state. Ogun has numerous industrial estates in mowe, ibafo, agbara, Ota etc.. The concentration of industries in many towns has changed most of these places to urban areas. Abeokuta has one of the best roads in the country apart from the few federal roads I don't know what your definition of urban means again Modified : Most of you saying tha the industrial estates in ogun State are just extensions of Lagos state and it has no effect on host communities. I will advise such people to go back and read their secondary school economics textbooks.. Read factors that determines location of industries, benefit of the industries to the host communities ...stop being ignorant please. Nobody will cite an industry in areas without good roads and there's no place that won't benefit from having an industry cited or where infrastructures are provided. If a road was rehabilitated to modern standards in your community, then the value of of your property will definitely increase. Many of these people have never been to ijebu ode, sagamu, sango, Ota, agbara before.. So in their myopic mind they just conclude that industries in ogun State are only located in the bush and it has no effect on the host community. What brings about urbanization is the population shift. And population shift is brought about by infrastructures like roads, universities, airports etc people staying in ijebu ode, sagamu, Ota, ifo, mowe, ibafo, agbara, ilaro etc Don't need to come to abeokuta because they have facilities over there and that brings about the topic distribution of infrastructures. The fact that Lagos is a yoruba state likewise ogun, oyo, ondo, osun and ekiti is not our fault and it's nobody's business if we benefit eachother. It's the essence of regional integration. It's not my fault that imo and anambra envy eachother's little progress. Infact it's a thing of joy for if other yoruba states will benefit from each other. You guys should work on how to help each other instead of fighting each other here on nairaland. It's not our fault that anambra igbos are claiming superiority over others. Work in unity and stop envying eachother 131 Likes 13 Shares |

omofunaab: Be truthful to yourself, all these things you highlighted except the industries are false. Many states have free trade zone, so what's the big deal about it. The industries in Ogun do not produce for Ogun people. They produce there and swiftly transport to Lagos or other places . Ibafo, mowe and some parts of Ota are just Lagos extensions, dazall. 19 Likes 2 Shares |

Develpeast: You are the one being economical with the truth or maybe you are just ignorant like others I said ogun has four international stadium, am i wrong? I said ogun has the highest number of public tertiary institutions, am i wrong? I said ogun has the highest number of private tertiary institutions, am i also wrong with that? Please i only entertain reasonable arguments You said the industries in ogun doesn't produce for ogun alone, did i tell you the industries in ogun state should produce for only ogun state? The fact that they are in ogun State is what am talking about And what is the rubbish you people have been saying that mowe, ibafo are lagos extensions Are you guys ignorant or what. The question i will ask you is that if really mowe, ibafo are ogun state towns. ? It's not my fault that anambra is far from lagos. You should read the factors that leads to localization of industries and tell me the benefits of localization of industries to the host community , maybe then you will understand why I said those areas are urban areas. The fact is most of you don't know the benefit of locating industries in some areas to the host community. Besides I don't understand why abia is before oyo state.. Even enugu is not even there 65 Likes 10 Shares |

omofunaab: Nsukka has a university and other institutions but it doesn't make it an urban area. The four "international" stadium you mentioned are just normal places football is kicked. show me the real environment of the Ogun state you are shouting, please do. The Ogun state I know very well just started rearing its head out in this Amosun regime I.e Abeokuta itself. You made mention of mowe, apart from the industries who cannot find land in Lagos and had to settle in nearby state, what other activities can be found in those areas I.e mowe, ibafo, etc. Ogun state is coming up. Egbon, mo ti lo gbogbo igboro ti e jabo. E ma lo ma kowa he, se gbo? 12 Likes 2 Shares |

omofunaab:My friend push your lazy ass up tour round Nigeria you will understand, Anambra is highly urbanized state with 62% of its population living in urban areas Anambra is second most densely populated state after Lagos state, The major urban centres of Anambra state are Onitsha including Okpoko, Nnewi, and Awka. Awka and Onitsha developed as pre-colonial urban centres with Awka as the craft industrial centre of the Nri hegemony; and Onitsha the city state on the Niger and a river port and commercial centre, Onitsha is a fast-growing commercial city, and has developed to become a huge conurbation extending to Idemili, Oyi and Anambra East LGAs with one of the largest markets in West Africa. Nnewi (the Taiwan of Nigeria) is a rapidly developing industrial and commercial centre; and Awka, by becoming the state capital. Other main towns of Anambra state are: Abagana, Ekwulobia, Enugwu Ukwu, Ogidi, Okija, Ozubulu, Nkpor, Obosi, Igbariam, Oko, Obosi, Ogbunike etc 29 Likes 8 Shares
