An online petition set up by an agitated fan of the Algeria national team aimed at preventing Gambian referee Bakary Papa Gassama has gathered momentum, with over 100 people putting their name to it.

my thoughts on the match. the result didn't flatter us as we played a solid tactical game against a very good team filled with talented players. we showed strength and concentration during the moments we were under pressure from the algerians and made sure we took our chances when we were on top of them.

players who stood out for me were etebo, moses, mikel, balogun and echeijile. etebo brought another side of his game that wowed me. his tireless running, aggression and level headedness really helped in winning the midfield battle against the algerians for most of the match. definitely a starter. the good thing about him is he can play a lot of positions. if we are going for a more attacking setup he can be pushed further forward but in my opinion his energy in the middle of the park is invaluable. moses finally showed what i've been expecting of him all this time. fast direct running that will always destabilize opponents forcing mistakes out of them while giving cover to his fullback. by far his best match in the green white green. to me this is victor moses at the near peak of his powers. hope moses simon was taking notes on the bench because that's the kind of wing play we want from him. mikel brought his A game. was unmovable in possession. also brought calmness and leadership especially when we were under algerian pressure. took his goal well. pity he gassed out and had to be subbed. real captain's performance. balogun was just imperious. his positioning was always spot on. strong in the tackle and decisive when it mattered most. loved how he took charge of the defence as that saw us through our tough moments. elderson too was good, chased mahrez away from his wing and joined attack as much as he could. was a perfect foil for the rampaging victor moses.

now to the above average, poor performers. iheanacho's touches sometimes let him down but he worked hard for the team. was always available as an attacking outlet. for me it's too soon to say the top 9 role he was deployed in was a failed experiment. i agree he seems to flourish more in a ss role but this was his first match for the super eagles in that role. with more games and better understanding he could pull it of. onazi was more disciplined and he gave the ball away a lot less but his positioning is still a sour point with me. i remember one incident in the first half when brahimi got hold of the ball in the midfield onazi was caught out of position. before he could make up ground to catch him brahimi was already in our 18. thank God they didn't utilize that opportunity. for the algerians goal etebo chased down mahrez but onazi wasn't quick enough to offer support. by the time mahrez wriggled his way from etebo's attention onazi should have been closing him down but he allowed mahrez to easily find bentaleb who picked his spot without much hassle. onazi gave his best no question but is his best good enough? especially as we have other players now like ndidi, esiti etc who can play that role. i can understand rohr playing onazi for now because of his experience and years of partnership with mikel in the midfield but if he doesn't improve his positional marking then his place in the starting xi might be in jeopardy. ekong partnered balogun very well was a bit jittery in tense moments but was overall solid. iwobi not his best game by his high standard. like his uncle jayjay used to do he played to the gallery way too much. didn't provide cover for his fullback enough of the time. i guess his audacious rainbow flick kind of covered up his deficiencies. he can do better. omeruo started well but brahimi happened to him. struggled to keep up. the injury he sustained saved his blushes. akpeyi for an experienced goalkeeper it's annoying the kind of shaky and nervous performances he now churns out. i remember during one of the algerian attacking forays he was supposed to come out to punch the ball somehow he missed it and punched balogun instead. thankfully rohr has started looking for other alternatives because i seriously doubt he will start in goal for us again. ndidi came in and helped restore our midfield dominance. should be a starter in my opinion. shehu came and looked solid. musa's pace and directness really gingered our attack.

going forward we expect rohr to find more options for the right and left fullback positions. hopefully musa mohammed gets a decent club so he can finally get some playing time and also tyronne commits to nigeria. success, osimhen, kayode etc to come in and challenge for that number 9 role. what really gladdens my heart is that we are not yet at full power and we are playing this kind of exhilarating football. this looks ominous for the rest of africa. also towards our next match against cameroon let's not get cocky. they are formidable opponents especially against us. they will be desperate to bring out anything within their arsenal to stop us both legal and illegal. let us all remain vigilant. happy rohr has told them the job is not done. let's continue to pray for the players to remain focused, calm and injury free. pray the rohr led technical crew remains united and controversy free so they can deliver the world cup ticket to russia 2018.
