No but it is better than Cypriot first division where Shehu Abdullahi plays. It is even better than the Belgium, Turkey and so on. You know what I mean.

Russian league is a backwater league with all due respect. Forget UEFA coefficient, it is used to determine which number of teams qualify for European tournaments from each country.

A young player that is serious about his career should stay in western Europe. Going to places like Russia or Turkey can push a player back.

EXCLUSIVE: CSKA Moscow Slap In Bid For Prolific Nigerian Forward Henry Onyekuru

According to reports exclusively gathered by Owngoalnigeria.com 19 year old Nigerian forward Henry Onyekuru is a top target for Russian side CSKA Moscow.

We gathered that the Russian side made a formal bid for his services at the start of the week, following glowing reports from their scouts.

However the worth of the bid is yet unknown but the forward who was a subject of a bid from German side Hoffeinheim in the summer is reportedly valued at slightly above 5 million Euros.

The 19 year old who plays in Belgium for KAS Eupen operates from the flanks or as a centre forward, and has six goals from the first 14 games of the season, with four assists to his name.

Plucked from Aspire Academy in Senegal, he is into his second season in Belgium, with six goals to his name in his first season where he helped Eupen gain promotion to the top division.

Onyekuru has started very well. He should look for a better club in Belgium instead.

Eagles have a strong defence – Taribo

Festus Abu

Taribo West has rejected criticism of the Super Eagles’ defence being their weakest link as Nigeria mount a challenge to qualify for the Russia 2018 World Cup.

Nigeria currently sit on top of Group B of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers following their 2-1 defeat of Zambia in Ndola on October 9 and Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Algeria in Uyo.

Despite opening up a four-point lead at the top of the table, Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr’s defence has been subjected to intense scrutiny by some football pundits and fans over the defensive errors in the last two fixtures. Turkey-based Kenneth Omeruo has been singled out for criticism.

But former Nigeria defender Taribo has disagreed with the assessment of the national team’s defence in the World Cup qualifiers.

“I’m impressed with the performance of our back four in the two qualifiers,” the former Inter Milan and AC Milan strongman told our correspondent on the telephone on Tuesday.

“I disagree with the criticism from the media and fans that our defence is not good.

“As far as I’m concerned, we have fantastic defenders – and I believe we have a strong defence.”

The Atlanta ’96 Olympic gold medallist, who represented Nigeria at the France ’98 and Korea/Japan 2002 World Cups, added, “Our defenders are good, but lack experience. With more matches, they will improve.

“Algeria would have scored at least four goals against us but they couldn’t because our defenders stopped them. A team with a bad defence couldn’t have prevented the Algerians from converting the chances they created.

“Since the Algerians couldn’t convert their chances, our defenders deserve some credit for our win.”

The well-travelled former Auxerre star rejected the suggestions that Omeruo does not deserve his place in Rohr’s starting lineup, saying the on-loan Alanyaspor player is a good defender.

The former Kaiserslautern player added, “Omeruo is a good centre-back. He was the the mainstay of our defence during the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations. He was also fantastic during the 2014 World Cup qualifiers.

“I don’t believe he has become a bad defender. I think William Troost-Ekong and Leon Balogun are more determined than him.
They are not better than him (Omeruo).”

Taribo praised the Eagles’ German manager for bringing a winning mentality back to the team, saying Nigeria would “demolish Cameroon” in their Russia 2018 qualifying double-header against the indomitable Lions.

Nigeria host Cameroon in the first leg qualifying clash on August 28, 2017, with the four-time African champions hosting the Eagles in the return leg fixture on September 2, 2017.

He said, “Rohr is a clever coach, and he deserves commendation for selecting his team on merit.

“He has changed the way we play and brought the German mentality. The Eagles are winning because there is a sense of collective responsibility.”

Taribo added, “The Eagles will demolish Cameroon.”

chrisooblog:
my thoughts on the match. the result didn't flatter us as we played a solid tactical game against a very good team filled with talented players. we showed strength and concentration during the moments we were under pressure from the algerians and made sure we took our chances when we were on top of them.

players who stood out for me were etebo, moses, mikel, balogun and echeijile. etebo brought another side of his game that wowed me. his tireless running, aggression and level headedness really helped in winning the midfield battle against the algerians for most of the match. definitely a starter. the good thing about him is he can play a lot of positions. if we are going for a more attacking setup he can be pushed further forward but in my opinion his energy in the middle of the park is invaluable. moses finally showed what i've been expecting of him all this time. fast direct running that will always destabilize opponents forcing mistakes out of them while giving cover to his fullback. by far his best match in the green white green. to me this is victor moses at the near peak of his powers. hope moses simon was taking notes on the bench because that's the kind of wing play we want from him. mikel brought his A game. was unmovable in possession. also brought calmness and leadership especially when we were under algerian pressure. took his goal well. pity he gassed out and had to be subbed. real captain's performance. balogun was just imperious. his positioning was always spot on. strong in the tackle and decisive when it mattered most. loved how he took charge of the defence as that saw us through our tough moments. elderson too was good, chased mahrez away from his wing and joined attack as much as he could. was a perfect foil for the rampaging victor moses.

now to the above average, poor performers. iheanacho's touches sometimes let him down but he worked hard for the team. was always available as an attacking outlet. for me it's too soon to say the top 9 role he was deployed in was a failed experiment. i agree he seems to flourish more in a ss role but this was his first match for the super eagles in that role. with more games and better understanding he could pull it of. onazi was more disciplined and he gave the ball away a lot less but his positioning is still a sour point with me. i remember one incident in the first half when brahimi got hold of the ball in the midfield onazi was caught out of position. before he could make up ground to catch him brahimi was already in our 18. thank God they didn't utilize that opportunity. for the algerians goal etebo chased down mahrez but onazi wasn't quick enough to offer support. by the time mahrez wriggled his way from etebo's attention onazi should have been closing him down but he allowed mahrez to easily find bentaleb who picked his spot without much hassle. onazi gave his best no question but is his best good enough? especially as we have other players now like ndidi, esiti etc who can play that role. i can understand rohr playing onazi for now because of his experience and years of partnership with mikel in the midfield but if he doesn't improve his positional marking then his place in the starting xi might be in jeopardy.ndidi came in and helped restore our midfield dominance. should be a starter in my opinion.

be careful ooh, the Onazi fanboys are coming for you.

Seriously, if na me wey talk this one now they for kill me instantly. What happened on saturday was exactly what I have been saying since, to increase Onazi's pass efficiency, we need to include a 3rd person in the midfield who will take the ball from his feet directly so he doesn't even have to try anything fancy, I have said that a 1000 times atleast here and on saturday, Etebo was that 3rd person and Onazi's efficiency increased as you noted. Seriously even I thought that this particular strategy would help improve Onazi's game, I guess that's what the coach thought too but on the contrary, it brought out the worst, his positioning has deteriorated a lot and I mean a lot. Thank God you aptly pointed out two clear instances, I could add a few to that too, luckily we didn't pay, but luck won't save us against Germany or France or Argentina. Right now the guy is the weaklink and unlike what people think, especially Kog45 Ndidi is not an immobile DMF, just because he is tall doesn't make him slow. He is fast, agile, strong and precise and really if the coach is adopting my line of thinking(which he has shown by including the 3rd man in the middle just like I suggested earlier), then it means that he was just giving Onazi the benefit of the doubt and Onazi might have lost that chance right about now

Egypt Friendly: Rohr hands over to Salisu, Imama

The task of selecting players from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) for January’s international friendly against Egypt, will fall on Super Eagles assistant coaches, Salisu Yusuf and Imama Amapakabo, according to Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr.

The friendly, which will serve as preparation for the Afcon-bound Pharaohs, is scheduled to be played in Dubai; on a yet to be announced date, and it will be executed by a predominantly home based side, Rohr stated in his post match press parlay after last weekend’s victory over Algeria.

Though Nigeria will not be in Gabon for the continent’s biggest football tournament, the 63-year-old German tactician said he’d be in the Central African Country to monitor his team’s World Cup qualifying group opponents; Cameroon and Algeria.

Nigeria host the Indomitable Lions on August 27, next year, in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

12 years after: Tottenham rues missing Moses for free

Victor Moses was being watched by Tottenham and Chelsea scouts before he joined Crystal Palace’s academy on the advice of his former coach – back in 2004.

Now 25-years-old, Moses has made his breakthrough season at Stamford Bridge under new boss Antonio Conte, who has won five of his last league games in charge of the club while utilising the Nigeria international in a wing-back role.

Former Arsenal trainee, Tony Loizi, managed Moses at amateur club Cosmos 90 FC and helped to introduce his former player to the English academy system at Crystal Palace. Loizi remembers that Palace had competiton from other London clubs, including Spurs and Chelsea.

“So many clubs were after him and then Crystal Palace came in,” Loizi told Goal. “Tottenham in particular were looking at him for a long time, but I’m glad that he chose Palace. If he went to Chelsea or Tottenham, he might not have made it.”

“I said to him: ‘look, Victor, there’s no way I would hold you back’ and I asked him to come to Crystal Palace with me. I went down there after the two-week trial and they were signing the schoolboy contracts.

“Chelsea were also in for him and I said: ‘if you sign for Palace you will get to the first team quicker than at any of the other clubs’, and in the end he chose to stay with them after his trial.”

Moses made his Palace debut at the age of 16 in 2007, less than three years after signing his first contract with the club.

he's counting on the fact that they may have a successful AFCON tournament, which will in turn boost the confidence of his players.

We all know how much of a boost such can bring to a team, so yes, he should be very glad his team don't meet with the Super Eagles until next year, else, they certainly would have collected a beating as well considering the psychological state of both teams

Kenny Otigba call getting closer.... smiley

Rohr Eyes Another “Oyibo” In Hungarian-
Nigerian Otigba As Back Up To “Oyibo Wall”

From all indications Hungarian-Nigerian central
defender Kenneth Otigba will make the next
squad of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, if he
impresses Gernot Rohr when the manager visits
Turkey.

The 24 year old reportedly turned down the
chance to play for Hungary in preference for
Nigeria but he has been severally snubbed by
past coaches of the team.

Now in Turkey with Kasimpasa, he is on the list of players new Super Eagles coach Rohr will scout in Turkey during his planned visit to the country that is home to over 15 Nigerian players.

So far he has made nine appearances in the
league with one goal and four yellow cards to his
name, and his invitation will no doubt add
competition to the battle for the central defence
spot of the Super Eagles.

For now, the duo of William Troost Ekong and
Leon Balogun are the preferred duo, with their
combination earning them the nickname “Oyibo
Wall”. Otigba is also an Oyibo ( word for fair or half caste individuals in local Nigerian language) and he will fancy his chance against the duo.

I gave Dele Alli away at 13 to save him from gangs and allow him to follow his football dream
EXCLUSIVE: Mother talks about the truth behind the England ace’s rise and her heartache at letting him go

10th January 2016, 12:01 am

NOW
ENGLAND star Dele Alli’s mum has spoken about the heartbreaking moment she
gave her son away so he could fulfil his dream of becoming a top footballer.

Denise Alli, 52, was battling against alcoholism and faced having her children
removed by Social Services.

So she handed Dele over to a couple who the footballer now calls his adoptive
parents.

Now mum-of-four Denise says every time she watches 19-year-old Spurs ace Dele
scoring for his club and country, she knows she made the right decision.

Fans have never before heard the truth about how Dele got to where he is
today.

Fighting back tears, Denise told The Sun on Sunday: “I had to let him go to
give him a better future.

“Emotionally, it was heartbreaking but it was the right thing to do.

“I had a serious drink problem triggered by my unhappy childhood.

“I was hooked on vodka, beer — anything — for a few years.

“Social Services visited me after complaints from my neighbours about how I
was raising my children but my kids were never taken away.

Promise . . . future star with football trophies

5
“It was my decision to let Dele live with another family.

“I knew that was the only way he could fulfil his dream of becoming a
professional footballer.

“It was tough to give up my son but it proved to be his salvation. I’m so
thankful for how things have turned out.”

Denise will be glued to the TV when Tottenham take on Leicester City at White
Hart Lane in the third round of the FA Cup today.

He signed for Spurs for £5million last February and got his first start for
England in November when the Three Lions took on France.

Dele was an immediate hit during the poignant game following the Paris terror
attacks and scored from outside the box to break the deadlock at Wembley.
England won 2-0.

His mum said: “When he scored the goal against France I leapt out of my seat —
I was so happy.

“My son has made it by himself. I am so pleased for him and super-proud of
everything he has achieved.”

Commentators have been stunned by Dele’s rapid rise through the ranks and
impressed by his composure on and off the pitch.

Born sportsman . . . Dele (bottom centre) poses with medal in 2009

5
He is expected to be in the England squad for Euro 2016 this summer.

Last week, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino talked about the player after his
equaliser helped earn a 1-1 draw with Everton, saying he had “fantastic
maturity”.

Few expected Dele to make the first team when he started pre- season training
with Spurs.

But he wowed fans when he nut-megged Real Madrid star Luka Modric during a
game in August and scored the equaliser against Leicester City two weeks
into the season.

It helped him become a first-team regular and Spurs are set to double Dele’s
wages to £20,000 a week.

That could rise to £50,000 or more by next season to ward off interest from
Real Madrid and others.

That makes the £5million Tottenham paid MK Dons — Dele’s boyhood club — the
bargain of last season.

He came through the ranks at MK Dons after joining aged 11 and before that
played for local team City Colts.

Dele, who also showed promise as a talented rugby player, was born Bamidele
Jermaine Alli to Denise and Nigerian dad Kenny.

They married at Bletchley Register Office in Bucks just before his birth in
April 1996 but parted a week later. Businessman Kenny, 46, moved to Texas
where he now lives with new wife Lola.

Denise also raised son Lewis, 12, daughters Becky, 23, and Barbara, 26, who
all stayed with her.

She said: “Times were difficult — very tough. I had four children by four
different dads but none of the relationships lasted. I was a single mum. We
were living in Milton Keynes in a three-bedroom council house but it was a
bit rough.

“Me and Dele were always very close when he was younger. He was my little
cling-on. He’d always say, ‘Kiss me’. He loved football and started kicking
a ball around as soon as he could walk.

My boy . . . mum Denise holds a picture of Dele aged four

5
“I could see he had talent and I would take him to the park as much as I
could.

“He always wanted to be a footballer since he was a little boy and dreamed of
playing for Barcelona.”

At the age of five, Dele spent six months living with his dad in Nigeria
but the move did not work out and he returned to England.

As he grew up, his mum’s problems started to multiply and at same time he
began to get into trouble at school she was reported to Social Services.

Denise said: “It was only one visit and Social Services were just doing their
job. A handful of girls who had it in for me called the council — I don’t
know why. I always looked after my children.”

Yet by the time Dele was 13, Denise began to worry he was about to fall in
with gangs that were plaguing the Bradwell area of Milton Keynes where they
lived.

She agreed he could move six miles away to live with close pal and fellow
footballer Harry Hickford, now 20, and his parents, building company boss
Alan and his wife Sally.

While Denise insists he was never formally adopted, she let her son live
full-time with the Hickfords and their two children in the more affluent
area of Cosgrove.

New family . . . the Spurs midfielder with adoptive dad Alan

5
Denise said: “All the kids Dele’s age were on the streets smoking, arguing and
robbing. Some ended up in prison. I was worried my son would be tempted by
that hood life.

“He was challenging at times, like most lads. He had to change secondary
school and never settled at his first school.

“The Hickfords weren’t my friends but they had a nice home and I knew I had to
give my son this chance to move on with his life and succeed.

“When he left, there were no tears, just a sense of relief because I knew he
would be off the streets and safe.

“Dele told me, ‘I’m fine Mum. Don’t worry about me.’ He hugged me.

“It was tough but he was happy and I was happy.

“Despite giving him away I have never been estranged from Dele.

“He would come back to my place for a sleepover about once every month. He is
also close to his biological dad.. Kenny is so proud of him.”

5
Denise is no longer in contact with her son’s adoptive mum Sally and has
yet to see him play in person.

The midfielder’s adoptive dad Alan runs Dele Alli Promotions, so stands to
make a fortune

Denise admitted: “Perhaps deep down I felt some resentment towards Sally for
bringing up my son.

“I’m still close to Dele. He’s helped me and his sisters financially and has
lots of love to give. He’s a great son.

“He’s probably given us £4,000 over the past year or so.

“I got £600 this Christmas and the three children £500 each. Last year he gave
me £200, the girls £80 each and his brother a TV and Xbox.

“He gave me £170 for Mother’s Day and helps me out with £50 here and there
towards bills. I’d never ask him for a penny. He just offers to sort us out.

“He never discusses his salary but I heard it was £25,000 a week. Good on him.”

Speaking from his Houston home, Kenny said: “We have always had a good
relationship and I’m his dad.

“I saw Dele during my trip to England last year and we often text and chat on
the phone. I’m very proud of my son.”

Sally Hickford said last night: “We are so proud of Dele and want to let him
enjoy his football.

“Dele lived with our family but, no, we never formally adopted him. We want to
keep everything private.”

Ex Barcelona Ace: Osimhen Will Be A Big Hit
In Germany With Wolfsburg Like Iheanacho In England

Osimhen and Iheanacho

Former Barcelona forward and coach of the
Nigeria U-20 team Emmanuel Amunike says
Wolfsburg teen sensation Victor Osimhen will be a big hit in Germany, like fellow Nigerian Kelechi
Iheanacho in England.

The players have similar career path as they both made secured transfer abroad after picking up the top scorer award at the U-17 World Youth Championship, with Iheanacho winning the award in 2013 while Osimhen won it in 2015.
**((Uhmmm.... We all know Iheanacho won silver boot and golden ball instead))

Iheanacho has taken to life in the English Premier League like a duck to water and Amunike who also trained Iheanacho at U-17 level is backing Osimhen to be a big hit in Germany.

”What do you need to succeed in Europe?, good work ethics, skills, mental strength and focus. Osimhen has it all, he only need some little bit of fine tuning and body strength. He will be a big hit in Germany just like Iheanacho in England”. He told Owngoalnigeria.com.

”I trained both players at U-17 level, they are
different in a way but similar in front of goal. Over the years we have as a nation produced real quality players who can survive in any league, if given the necessary support and training”.

Very disturbing news. Nice post. I hope Dele Alli changes his attitude towards his parents and siblings. He is acting like a spoilt child. His parents did not give him the kind of life he wanted, it is obvious they still love and care for him.

I hope he matures soon or he might regret his actions.

His model girl friend should serve as a bridge, not someone who widens the gap between Dele and his family.

Heart breaking for his mom to have his pictures all over her wall. Yet, such a child does not love her back.

Super Eagles chief coach, Salisu Yusuf has lauded the 'workaholic' impact of Oghenekaro Etebo in the team's 3-1 win over the Fennecs of Algeria in Saturday's 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

The former Warri Wolves midfielder, who had a decent performance at the Rio Olympic Games Men's football, where he scored four goals in the Nigeria's U-23's 5-4 win against Japan in the opening group match, failed to make the 23-man list against Zambia due to injury.

His presence complemented the efforts of Mikel Obi and Ogenyi Onazi in the heart of the midfield against the Desert Foxes as he marked tirelessly to ensure Nigeria is always in possession of the ball.

However, Yusuf told Soccernet.com.ng that Etebo could become a main stay in the Super Eagles if he continues with his workaholic attitude.

"I am really impressed with the performance of Oghenekaro Etebo against the Desert Foxes of
Algeria because he played according to the script. Besides, he formed a perfect understanding with the duo of Mikel Obi and Ogenyi Onazi despite coming into the team for
the first time," Salisu told Soccernet.com.ng.

"I am particularly delighted with his work-rate and I strongly believe he's a player that would
become an asset not just for the senior national team but also for his club in no time. Since
Nigeria's next game would be on August, 2017 against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, I
just hope and pray that he maintains such fitness," he said.

I would particularly want to see Nwobodo and Egbuchulam in that team.

Also opportunities for Jamiu Alimi, Mfon Udoh, Ikechukwu Ezenwa and maybe Emmanuel Daniel to prove their worth.

That boy is full of anger and bitterness. DANM! Thank God he is not playing for us.
Dude got low self-esteem and hates his family because they are poor. He wish from wealthy family...Any,good riddance to bad rubbish.

He resents his family but it is not necessarily because of poverty. It is not easy for a kid to leave home at the age of 13 to live with a new family. His mum only saw him once a month and the dad was not even around. Children who felt abandoned by their fathers feel a resentment towards them. The father is now coming from Houston to visit him when he is a man.

Unless, we hear his side of the story, it is not fair to accuse him of low self esteem or hating his family because of poverty.

For players like Balogun and Troost, it is very likely that their fathers were part of their lives and gave them that connection with Nigeria. Alli did not have that.

be careful ooh, the Onazi fanboys are coming for you.

Why would anybody attack football Einstein's like u?

Alli's link with Nigeria is through his father. If he does not have a good relationship with him, it was always unlikely for him to play for Nigeria.

The fact that he cut relationship with his parents to the extent of removing his last name from his jersey shows the extent of his resentment. None of us know what he has been through. His father is coming from Houston to see his games now but where was he when the boy was growing up??

There is difference between past and present. It's left for us to distinguish between the two.

At January 2016, or before he was capped by England, he was close to his father but recently something enter em head.

Maybe he was disappointed to have chosen England after England was thrown out of European cup. grin

It is now clear to him that trophies will elude him as long as he wears England's Jersey hence the decision to vent his anger on his father who he thought could have helped him decided to play for Nigeria. grin

E bi like say the thing dey pain am die. grin

But Nigeria never approached him.

Na my opinion ooooooo.

That is his mother talking...

His own actions have shown that he wants nothing to do with his father. I would not blame him. He resents his father which is his connection to Nigeria.

His name is Dele, that's a connection so unless he changes his name to Dale na ur brother.

Russian league is a backwater league with all due respect. Forget UEFA coefficient, it is used to determine which number of teams qualify for European tournaments from each country.

A young player that is serious about his career should stay in western Europe. Going to places like Russia or Turkey can push a player back.

Yet Russian teams won Europa cup in this 21st century while Belgium and Dutch league are no where to be found.

If Russian team meet Belgium team, e sure say na Russian team go win. I lie? grin

We didn't try, we were chasing Hybe instead. There was no reason to have waited till he left Mk dons, lets just agree we dropped the ball its not the end of the world. We have good players in our team.

It does not sound like the mum prevented the man from seeing his son... Infact, he was sent to Nigeria to stay with the father but 'it did not work out' according to the report.. He spent just 6 months with his dad and it did not work out.

There is a lot more to the resentment felt by the boy.

It still didn't change the fact that his mother said 'he IS very close to his father' RECENTLY. As at JANUARY 2016.

What happened after that I don't care or am I bothered to know but some of you is trying hard to make us believe, 'he never had good rapo with his dad when you don't have facts to back it up.

It is not cool.
