Pretty good news. I hope those pouring so much pesticides to preserve beans can finally stop the nonsense.

I had an export request for 10 containers of beans but had to turn it down due to the ban.

Truth be told, because of the weak naira, it is increasingly becoming attractive for export$. The problem is we have a government that barely understands that there can be benefits from a weak naira.
Let me just give an example using say a bag of Dangote cement. Let's assume the price of a bag of Dangote cement is N2000. When the exchange rate was 200 Naira to the $, that bag of cement would be equivalent to $10. At the current rate of of N450 to the $, that same bag of cement is less than $5. That means Dangote cement would become attractive in countries Where cement sells at $10. So Dangote can set his export price at $7 and his product would be really attractive despite his making a $2 premium.
my question: how in return will the masses benefit from this? This is gross miscalculation

Higher demand for dangote cement. More foreign currency flowing into nigeria. Dangote will have to employ more nigerian youth for production. Dangote will make more money so he will pay more tax, which also makes nigeria richer etc. The benefits are huge!

I thought is when you have enough to eat before you give out. Meaning supply outweighing demand which automatically crashes the price or you choose not to be rational? I support anything that will move the country forward but will not be hypocritical...

Re: EU Lifts Ban On Beans Exportation From Nigeria. by paulbets: 1:34pm On Nov 18, 2016
i have heard this analogy before, it sounds somewhat true. but then i have wondered, if Dangote sold a bag of cement for N2000 when exchange rate was N200 to a $, don't you think the same bag will sell upto N3000 when exchange rate is anything around N450 to a $. Because even in this current economic situation in Nigeria, cost of local productions have increased, thereby making some locally produced commodities to cost more than before. This thought has always been my reservation about benefits of weaker Naira. Although i will like to understand more behind it.

Alot of people who are commenting here are just news reader. They never been to d market to know how things work in Nigeria. Rice should be cheap by now but instead in lagos where i stay, a cup of rice is now 350 naira. Why? Figure it out and then u will understand why we dont need eu to unbanned us
Re: EU Lifts Ban On Beans Exportation From Nigeria. by PeterKbaba: 1:42pm On Nov 18, 2016
EU doing this to check mate Britain (UK) because of the #BREXIT.
Lifting Ban for 3 years, exactly the time that Britain and EU would have finished the BREXIT negotiations.
As simple as that.
More EU policies to come.
Nigeria needs to use this period (opportunity) to start negotiating with Britain on one side and EU on the other side.
Nigerian Government too slow for their thinking!

Either you didnt read the earlier post or you are simply just not intelligent. Dangote was used as an example to explain the benefit nigeria can gain from a low value naira-dollar. Ok. Try to read, slowly.

Nigeria is not "giving" anything out. Everything is expensive now because the value of our naira is down. If naira is to bounce back, then we must increase exports. And obviously oil can no longer be depended on as sole forex earner. Its not about the beans, its about securing forex, revenue, jobs and moving away from oil.

This same narrative applies to literally all products whose entire inputs are locally sourced.
The big benefit of this is increased production which would automatically translate to more jobs. The other big benefit is increased Forex which should help stabilize the fluctuating Naira. Take note, I said stabilize, not strengthen.

The problem though is we have a direction less government that has no understanding of even the most basic form Of rudimentary economics.

But the sad reality is we
