Yep... Yep... We know... But fact is, we dont want you at rightback in the long run, neither do we need you at leftback "predominantly" (u may feature in these positions a few times more BUT) we need you more in central defence as quality back-up alongside Kenny Otigba to the "Oyibo" Wall... smiley

Chelsea Loanee Omeruo : I Am Ready To Play Right Back For Super Eagles

Kenneth Omeruo has rubbished claims that Leon Balogun and Troost-Ekong pairing in the Super Eagles defense will affect his position in the team.

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr faith in the duo paid off after an impressive display against Algeria where the Alanyaspor defender was drafted in the right back position.

Omeruo, however, vowed to play in any position
for the team to help in achieving their set goal of qualifying for the World Cup in Russia.

“We all are playing as a team with one goal of
making it to the World Cup, whoever the coach
selects will definitely give his all.’ Omeruo
disclosed exclusively to allnigeriasoccer.com at
the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja

“Whichever role the coach thinks I can play in the team I will definitely give my all.

“Playing from the right back against Algeria is just like am playing at the heart of the defense.”

He added : “As a Nigerian, I am ready to play
anywhere and give my all to the team. As long as we get the results and we are able to qualify for the World Cup in Russia.”

The Chelsea loanee has featured in all the World
Cup qualifying games under coach Gernot Rohr
and was substituted in the second half against
Algeria after picking up a knock.

Ex-U-17 Star: Troost-Ekong Is Overrated,
Leon Balogun Is The Real Deal

Former Nigeria U-17 World Cup winner Daniel
Joshua says Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong is suspect despite his fine performances for the team in their recent qualifiers.

Ekong has formed a formidable partnership with Leon Balogun in the heart of Nigeria’s defence, but Joshua who won the U-17 World Cup for Nigeria in 2007 as a defender believes Balogun is the brain behind the success of the duo.

”Troost-Ekong is good in his own right but I think he is suspect, he is not entirely convincing with the ball at his feet. Painful to say but I think he is overrated,” he told Owngoalnigeria.com.

”Balogun is the real deal, a complete footballer,
good with or without the ball. He is a defender’s
defender while Troost-Ekong is a cultured, old
school centre back, pace, power and aerial ability. No real finesse.

”They are working well anyway. I like the
nickname “Oyibo Wall”, it gives their partnership
confidence to do more. But a suitable back-up is
needed for the duo. Gernot Rohr would be
worried in the event of one getting injured”.

All these failed footballers that can't see anything good in those doing well. Na wa. How is Ekong overrated, abeg? He thinks it's easy to be the finest defender in the Scandinavia to the extent that a German tactician could say that he is above the level of clubs like Gent. He should keep quiet!

Uhmmm... Truth is we do discuss "homebased" here BUT AGAIN, There's an NPFL thread opened by a certain Honeric01 or so... Our local players are better covered there...

But we do discuss home-based players here most especially the young ones who clubs eventually come for... Examples, Ifeanyi matthew have always been mentioned on this thread long before he joined Lillestrom.

Obinna Nwobodo is also discussed here. Etc...

So that's it. smiley

................
For the Egypt friendly, a news article I posted already stated that the squad for Egypt (January 9 friendly) will be a mix of Some untested/uncapped Young professionals in europe (C.Nwakali, Kayode, Nwokolor, Osimhen, etc), and some home-based talents like Obinna Nwobodo, Jamiu Alimi, Chisom Egbuchulam, Joshua Obaje, etc.

Dutch Journalist Wax Lyrical Over Liverpool
Loanee Awoniyi- He Is Like A Young Van Nistelrooy

Liverpool loanee Taiwo Awoniyi has earned the
praises of respected Dutch journalist Jermain
Leitbig for his performance for his loan side NEC
Nijmegen even though he is yet to score.

19 year old Awoniyi joined the Dutch side on loan from Liverpool in the summer after a less fruitful spell with German side FSV Frankfurt, who were relegated to the third division at the end of last season.

Awoniyi who scored just once from 13 games for Freiburg is yet to get off the mark for NEC
Nijmegen but Jermain has seen enough to judge
his future, if he develops as expected.

So far he has played 8 games for NEC Nijmegen
and Jermain who has watched six of his games,
says he reminds him of legendary Dutch striker
Ruud Van Nistelrooy during his formative years.

”He has a high sense of positional awareness, very adept in getting into goal scoring positions. He reminds me of a young Van Nistelrooy, always lurking. He is yet to score but that is only a matter of time”, he told Owngoalnigeria.com.

yeah some commentators even informed ones like solace chukwu don't rate ekong that much and i wonder why because for someone of his age to be voted into team of the season in a tough league like norway's is not beans. yes he's not the finished article but i'm sure a better league and keener competition will fine tune his skills.

my guy sometimes it baffles me how these sports journalists will be seeking expert opinion from people who never cut it and then asking them to pass judgment on a player who's level they can only dream of reaching

Vic da beast?? The Giant Anichebe?? Hmmm... This could be... Ah Well... *I just dey observe* grin
.......................................................................

EXCLUSIVE: Anichebe To Meet With Super
Eagles Coach In London, Could Earn Recall For Senegal Friendly

Victor Anichebe has been handed a lifeline by
manager of the Super Eagles Gernot Rohr, who
will meet with the Sunderland forward in England to hold talks with him over his international career with Nigeria.

Rohr confirmed that he will be visiting London to meet with the father of Chelsea teen defender Ola Aina over the player’s international future.

He will also meet up with Anichebe according to reports exclusively gathered by Owngoalnigeria.com.

In 2013, Anichebe put his international career
with Nigeria on hold, citing neglect after picking
up an injury during one of the team’s game. He
however made a u-turn a year later but his
patchy club form denied him any chance of a
recall.

Before putting his international career on hold he played 11 games for Nigeria and scored four
goals, no thanks to injuries which restricted him
to few games for his club West Brom before he
was released at the end of the season,

The Sunderland forward has experienced an
upturn in fortunes since his move to the Stadium of light, where David Moyes the man who gave him his breakthrough at Everton is coach.

He scored his first goal in over a year in the
English Premier League shortly before the league went on break for international games, netting in the 2-1 win over AFC Bournemouth.

Every human being is privileged...

I know Azubuike is good, so was Emmanuel Sani but no more bringing players to the National team based on past glory. He must deserve it.

We have better DMFs that are not in the national team. We should be inviting those ones.

So Azubuike represents a player with past glory?

i'm really rooting for him to have a great career. like the dutch journalist said his movement and anticipation around the 18 yard box is exceptional. of all the players i've seen over the years he's the most similar to the great yekini. boy just needs some top tactician to take him under his wing, put an arm around his shoulders and give him confidence

Yeah but not during his on-fire spells... He did great in his early days with the U-20s at the super six and the AYC and with the U-23s when he rescued our sorry asses in Zambia.

It's true what the dutch journalist sees is what we have always seen in Awoniyi but then I see more. Like Sir Chrisooblog just pointed out, Awoniyi indeed reminds me much more of a Yekini. He just need to get his "confidence" back and step into "the zone" again.

Osimhen reminds me of a Drogba/Weah. Success is a beast. Iheanacho looks like a messi/griezmann kinda player. He's unique in his own way.

Awoniyi? He is the closest we have to Yekini.

I wonder how you analyse your own Football! grin

Necessity is the mother of invention. This is the case of Carl Ikeme or are you not aware? grin

I don't need to explain because you know.

Shehu Abdullahi case is different because we have better players playing in his position currently. How can you not understand that?

Sone Aluko plays for England second division which is even far better than Cypriot first division where Shehu Abdullahi plays. That is too low for the National team. Abeg.

Sone-aluko should continue to be the best in the Championship then he will get a call.

Currently, he is the best in the Championship and that alone will get him noticed....

Your analyses should be devoid of bias judgments.

SHEHU ABDULLAHI SHOULD FORGET THE NATIONAL TEAM JERSEY AND THEY SHOULD STOP GIVEN HIM A CALL.

Aluko and Ikeme's case in particilar are reasons why i stand against ur comment that "no lower division player be invited".

I stand to defend Shehu Abdullahi's inclusion in the team. That guy is so valuable. He is a utility kind of player. He played under Keshi, Oliseh, Siasia against Egypt and the Olympics. If after watching Shehu all these periods and conclude bc he plays in Cyprus then he should not be invited then u are not being fair.

Anyways that is your opinion of which u are entitled to.

The coaches know the true value of Shehu Abdullahi and they will always pick him ahead of those "your" players.

“He has impressed me with his fantastic mentality - same way he was when he came for trials is the same way he has been when he started scoring goals and playing games.

“He is humble, hardworking and treats everyone with respect.”

The Oslo-based agent opened up on the interests Ifeanyi Matthew has thus far attracted.

“Already there has been interest from the MLS,
but best he uses next season to attract bigger
clubs. We should not jump at the first offer,” he
said.

“MLS, not right step for a young player like him.

“He has been noticed. He hasn’t played too many games, but next season he will, obviously he is one player a lot more clubs will take note of.

“He will do well in the German Bundesliga and
other top European leagues.”

Well, Echiejile did great in the last game and did keep Mahrez quiet from the flanks... Also had some good help from Victor Moses. I also remember a super block from Balogun from a mahrez attempted cross-shot on the left side within the 18-yard box after Mahrez's silky step-overs.

In all, he was very good on the day. He stood his ground like a soldier, fought and won. The "mahrez fear" was destroyed. It was rather Brahimi who was busy skinning Omeruo who did a great job dusting himself up and kept going. Brahimi is wicked!

I believe he (Echiejile) needs "tougher NOT tough" competition to ensure he keeps his level high.

Honestly we need quality cover in the leftback position. We're well stocked with options on the right as the likes of Idowu, Ebuehi, Iorfa Jnr, Moses Odubajo etc will still come in. What about the left??

Nigeria's Elderson (right) tries to stop Riyad Mahrez of Algeria in Uyo

Besides the problematic Eagles right fullback
position, the left back occupied by Elderson
Echiejile is also under threat, officials have hinted.

“Rohr has admitted his fullbacks still lack the
mental strength needed for tougher challenges
and that perhaps explains the special drilling
Elderson Echiejile got before the game with
Algeria,” disclosed a team official.

“The left back position is also under serious
scrutiny, just like the right back.”
The 28-year-old Elderson has manned the left
back in Rohr’s first three matches.

He has played three matches for Belgian club
Standard Liege on loan from Monaco, but his last league game was in a 3-1 loss at KV Oostende on October 30.

Rohr has already announced he is shopping for
players for these positions.

I'm beginning to think that owngoalnigeria has joined yellow journalists; making up stories just to stay in the news. Anichebe?

Don't be supprised cuz he will even do better as time goes on, sunderland's future depends on him and Defoe. If he scores double digits it will be hard for him not to get a call.

Plsss who remembers "Daniel Joshua" in jersey no.6 from the Class of 2007 Golden Eaglets that also had Rabiu Ibrahim, Chrisantus Macaulay and Lukman Haruna? wink

Well, hear him talk.........

Meanwhile @pic below... Chaiii.. Slimani the "slayer".... Instead of him doing the slaying,
He was "slayed" by the Oyibo wall... In the words of the Bein Sports Arabian commentator, "Poo pooo poo pooo pooo pooo pooo...." Loolll grin

Come On. After what we saw from Troost-Ekong at the Olympics, someone can doubt Ekong's ability on the ball. It is the role the coach wants. Ekong sits and keeps it tidy while Balogun roams. Ekong played his role well. Despite few mistakes, I doubt he deserves criticism.
