I went to Balogun and got 2 pretty white dresses and socks for Baptism. She looked pretty, everyone loved it. If I could have used my Baptismal dress, I would have.

I think a lot of people get caught up in the "you must spend so-and-so for your kids" mentality. There is a lot of "have you bought this, does your child have that" going around and it only gets worse by the time they go to school. I have seen the party packs that come back from my nephews' and cousins' friends birthday parties and I am stunned at how much the parents spend. The worst I attended was a 1st year birthday party...with Photo booth, souvenir stand, 4 different caterers, a DJ, professional photographers, an MC and a cake stand, all themed. And all I showed up with was a card... cry

There is no competition in parenthood like feddy27 said. I believe people should do what makes them happy. No one should feel pressured cos someone ask if u've gotten this or that for your baby...it just might be a harmless question to remind u in case, u've forgotten...the number of things I didn't even know about or know I needed was so long, thanks to friends that told me...I would have been very angry if I could have bought them cheaply and now end up buying fake at triple the price! Truly, there are people that have otherwise intents, but the thing to do is blank them...there are things even after being told, that I felt was too expensive and I got alternative.

On kids birthday parties, I feel there is too much criticism on ppl whom spent a bit on it...fingers are not equal and priorities are not same. Everyone's story is different...if after 8yrs of marriage, God blesses me with fruits of the womb, and I decide I want to do a big party for their 1yr...will u say, am wasting my money?? Or if I would rather have a party instead of a vacation?? Some people spend more on cars, bags, shoes et al...that's their priority n who are we to judge?? We all have something we are into...my take is, don't do any thing just to feel among or cos of pressure...do what you can afford to n be reasonable about it, e.g, spending on clothes/parties but not immunization - outright, foolishness! I might not be able to get my child a crib or decide it is wasteful, but that doesn't mean Mrs A that got is wasteful...

I do me and can never be pressured to do what I can't or don't want to. Everyone should do themselves!

Sorry for my rant...

My cousin didn't want it that big, it spiralled out of control. Worse, she ran around like a demented person, which is what always happens at every big party (seriously what is the point of a lavish party, when you barely see what happens and certainly don't enjoy it). Her acquaintances with the snobbish behaviours, may not be able to afford a lavish party but will throw it. So as to be seen matching Naira for Naira. Their kids go to school with my nephews and nieces and it's funny to see how the parents have elaborate party packs and parties. These ladies want fancy parties but will ask my sis "oh can your sis come help do Arty stuff at my child's birthday, I have N10k but she will spend the entire day and I will definitely expect all sorts of exciting stuff so I can wow my guests". If I agree, on that day if their friends ask how much it cost, they will be coy about what they paid but say "it's normally N45000 to N50,000 outside", to give the impression they spent a ton without blinking.

Everyone should do as they please but for pete's sake don't do it because you feel you ought to impress someone.

Pls experienced mother's in the house help!

My DD who is two weeks old hasn't pooed for three days now but passes gas( farts) a lot, she is on EBF. Should I be worried?

Also her cord stump fell off on the fifth day and I have been cleaning the site with cotton wool and spirit but I noticed the place bkd slightly this evening while I was changing her diaper, I cleaned the stale blood away and it stopped, is there cause for worry?

I noticed she stretches continuously as if in pain when she is awake, can a two week old baby have colic?

Pls help a FTM.

Now that is a classic example of "I want to belong"...we should surround ourselves with people comfortable in their own self! I can even see this ppl actually saying they paid u alot behind your back!

EBF babies can go for days without poking, as long as she is farting.

Keep cleaning the navel, but if by tomorrow or next you are still seeing blood, may be you should consult your Dr.

As per colic, let me post mitchyy's method for you.

Congratulations!

Zion, I sight you. How is our baby doing?

My dear, I don't give room for anybody that feels his/her advise is wat I must follow. There is no competition in parenthood. Do what works for you and helps you maintain your sanity.

For water, I don't have any particular time bt most times I check wen she's thirsty. How I know is that her spit becomes thick so I offer water.

180mls at 3mths is ok. Attached is a feeding guide from aptamil that I follow

Thanks ma

Don't mind Naija parents, out to show off constantly and compete. There was a particular fellow who thought the "competition" between his daughter and Baby E was so fierce, he applied himself diligently to the "competition" so I had to avoid him.

"oh baby E was 3.2lbs at birth? My girl was 5 lbs! Oh she had more hair at birth than now? Well, if you had seen my daughter's hair, so full! Oh she doesn't want to drink milk at 5 months? My baby drinks soooo much milk and is so fat! Baby E is standing at 8 months, my girl is already sitting at 3 and a half months"

Nawa. I would think its a woman that would be that petty, not a man. Smh. Do you know that newest trend now is to have Facebook and Instagram account for babies and kids, where their parents post pictures of the children constantly and put captions like "My brother and I" like its the kid that posted the picture? Lmao. People can be vain sha

@birthday party I tell anyone who asked that am not wasting my money throwing parties for people who are not important undecided 90% of whom comes empty handed, but wants to eat and drink your account into zero balance while the celebrant is crying and sweaty and just wants mummy to hug and give kisses.
Sorry I only do 10th birthday party when the child can say how, where and whom should be at the party chikena cheesy birthday before then is prayers, cake, pics @school or home for records and a good present.

smh @ the bolded. Sm ppl can be so annoying when they do this. Na so one older family friend who was calling when my son was already 5 mths old to congratulate me n was asking if baby was crawling yet. I said he's only jst dragging his bum-bum n she was like "he's slow o, n u said he's big o how come he's nt crawling yet? Even my son (who's almost thru wt secondary school by d way) that was very skinny was already sitting at 3 months" n she kept repeating that my baby's lazy o, this n that. I was like "tor, is 5 mths too late for a baby to crawl??! shocked I sha cannot make him crawl if he's nt ready to undecided n then again ur question was if he was crawling yet at 5months nt when did he sit? undecided when I told DH he said "u sef like tory, even if they ask u if he's started walking at 5 months, u tell them 'of course! In fact he's running around the house as we speak'" grin grin A neighbor was asking me at 10mths if he was walking n I told her he's started taking random couple of steps here n there n she said "n he seemed like he was going to be fast o" undecided helloooo, 10mth pikin too late to waka? undecided :olol I carry nyansh for ppl n their competition/comparison. The same ppl that advised u earlier nt to make a baby boy sit until 5mths cos of their back (abi na spine ) wl start telling u at 8mths that his mates r running around already undecided grin

If you haven't given her anything inside bottle before now, you don't expect her to grab the bottle immediately and start sucking. You have to keep trying. Some babies do reject bottles if you didn't introduce it on time.

Twogreatnations your baby is doing just fine and the navel is fine too.

I find it extremely infuriating. Like are you not even scared of bad people or kidnappers having unlimited access to your children's' picture? Why should a baby have a social media account? Is the baby an accessory? What are you trying so hard to show off? I tire oo.

Don't mind them, so those babies that lost their mother during child birth should not eat or they will bury them with their mother for EBF.

I tire for people's opinion over someone else baby as if they love him/her more than the mother.

Talking about people's opinion..... mine is not about my baby but what she told me was annoying.

I delivered through cs. So when my friend came to the hospital she said ' did you pray and read your bible ' and am like wtf because she had a virginal birth. Mheeen I just told her not to ask me such nonsense question.

Some people need a brain resetting slap. she felt I didn't pray hard enough or what.... does she know the number of days I prayed and cried to God to grant me safe delivery? God did it, My baby arrived and I'm alive cs or virginal birth the goal is # mother alive, baby alive, husband alive and plenty money#;d

I'm a FTM too on breastfeeding and formula. My dd has done that twice. What my mum did was give her about 25ml orange in a bottle to suck and the next day she pooped.
