Go to settings - > About phone - > Internal Memory - > tap the 'internal memory like 7 times, then - > phone information 1. From there you can select WCDMA only. That way you have selected 3g only. Note, you will have to repeat this step each time you reboot or switch off phone, so master it.

Strange as am not having that problem on redmi 3s, try to update your phone to the latest 8.1.1.0 global stable version and see if the problem will be resolved.

But that's how they have been, not that I support them on that, getting better developers is really worth mentioning though. Xiaomi is actually cheap because they deliberately want to cut a lot of physical presence. Not surprised about the very bad after sales support, they have got the customers they wanted now, and they must change their game plan to keep them, that's the reality for them.

The only cost they needed to cut was from the hardware department which they got spot on. Miui 5,6,7 were really good. In fact after playing with a friend's rn3 pro with miui 7.5.3.0, I quickly rushed to buy mine. After using the phone for two weeks, I sold my Samsung j7, because the rn3 was smaller and compact. But since I migrated to miui 8, my phone has never been the same.
