What the Op is saying here, is that sales boy go more questions to answer.

And what happened to the two men in the car with him, why were they missing in the whole picture.

The op raised a good point but the points seem void cuz he didn't follow up with the story. The sales boy actually followed him to his car and was dragged by the car while he was trying to stop the thief from fleeing with the goods.

The sales boy is currently in the hospital cuz of the injuries sustained while being dragged.
