Governor Nasir el-Rufai today attended a Havard Alumni Reunion in Abuja with old friends to share perspectives on the Role of Citizens in Governance.

Now, while this is good, one can't help but question the wisdom of a leader who lets these pictures of him come to light in a land where there is so much hunger. This man is the governor of a state so overrun with poverty, he has to ban the troops of beggars lining the major roads from putting in a good day at their various offices. What is such a governor now doing displaying his lavish feasts to the general public?

Nigeria is one of the three poorest countries in the world, with people starving every day or does not this guy know it? His son is doing this exact same thing in London.

For those who do not know it, billionaire El Rufai was not always rich, in fact, it si said boldly in many quarters that he was in debt until certain relief in the form of loot made its way from public accounts into his private bank account. He is one of the few politicians in Nigeria that have refused to make know his true net worth. A year ago, he sued a certain newspaper that did.

Like I said, letting criticism hold us back is the real shame. Everyone here is criticizing me for calling 'that' a lavish feast in these hard times....I have made changes....check.

How wonderful it will be if our leaders did so too.

By the way, hunger and extreme hardship have a way to make even d most well brought up of people behave abnormally. Most of them, turn to thrives and cheats...that girl did not. she just called the source of her problems a rude name...I for one see it as bravery ....the Americans call it freedom of speech ...most Africans, like you, call it disrespect.
In other words, she must keep quiet as she dies of hunger? Show respect even though d respected can't keep any promise?
