Sibrah: The challenge you mentioned is known to the ministry technocrats who are paid to know it and convey such with solutions to the minister. The ministers job is to ensure that such challenges are communicated to the presidency where the Executive Council would further deliberate on it and secure funding for the solutions provided. The minister's job is not to detect the problems. The minister is not in the ministry for ever, so can never be a body of knowledge like the ministry's technocrats. Now since you insist there's a problem a politician would not know, then do we recycle the old political appointees to that ministry or do we recall the former president of the country to serve as a minister since such challenges must have been mentioned in his regime, as such he would be equipped with the solutions? Or do we make the technocrat permanent secretary or director of that ministry as a minister, and do away with such highest executive position in the ministry? A minister remains a political administrator. 1 Like |

Google is your friend. Check out the Education profiles of the Energy Ministers in Brazil, India,France ,Germany,United Kingdom and South Korea. NONE of the is an Engineer. In fact they do not have a science background. In Russia he is an ECONOMIST In fact the most common qualification seems to be a degree in Economics Can someone please exlain what degree you need to become the next Dangote.?? Any University degree even in religious studies is good enough. Ultimately what is requires to be a Minister is political and administrative experience. Ministers are not technocrats that is NOT their job 1 Like |

Largas: If you like Tufia from Sokoto to Damaturu, we will all suffer for the wasted resources that was at our disposal in the years past. As long as oil remains our destiny, we are destined to rise and fall with oil price. Now we fall, stop trying to stand on nothing. Alliance did not cause Jonathan to owe oil firms JV funding to the tune of $5b from 2010 to 2015. Yet we were told that we had the biggest economy in Africa in those same years. Now you want Buhari to pay the $5b in an economy on recession , yet Jonathan is not in jail. Come and collect miracle naa. 2 Likes |

StOla: you'll still join me to experience the hardship, inflation of rent, fuel, foodstuff, commodities, everything. B00hari may not be the cause of this recession, but he has done nothing to prevent future occurence or drift us away from the recession. If he knew he would be unable to steer us off from recession, he should have backed off during election because at early 2015, the signs were obvious we were destined for recession. B00hari is a dullard and worst president nigeria has ever had! |

Before any political rhetorics, you must understand Fashola is making a very important point here. Our African gods have never helped us build any technology. That's a fact!. It's not even up for debate!!. The gods still play major role in African societies because we're still stuck in the pâst. And that's because we missed an age in human history- a period known as the renaissance period 14th - 17th century, which was the time humanity began to make important ideological shifts that lead to dropping of some ideas that didn't fit the day. People then began to question the efficacy of the gods in Europe and across the world. They began to understand that natural phenomena (example; thunder) usually associated to the gods could be explained with science and this in turn ushered in the science age/revolution across Europe. All these happened while we were languishing in slavery across Africa!!!. Within this period Europe entered the age of technology and industrial revolution, all made possible by exploitation of Africa. Trains were built, cars built, advance in physics, chemistry, biology, e.t.c happened within this period, but sadly Africa was never a part of this technological revolution. That's why we cannot build our own car!. That's why we cannot build our own airplanes!!. Just imagine a situation we miss the internet age and know not that there's something called the internet!. That's exactly what happened to Africa between the 14th-18th century. We totally lost steam and actually began to UNDERDEVELOP. Africa missed that age, because we were at that time fully in slavery and knew not what was going on in the rest of the world. This is why till today our education system disables the African mind to want to explore scientifically, and it was intentionally made that way by Britain. Same for Francophone African countries. What Fashola should've added is that Africa cannot develop until education is restructured and science taught in our native languages across Africa to enable African children have inquisitive minds. My study shows the RENAISSANCE period and SCIENCE age are natural developmental curves that a nation must undergo to develop!!. It's like a baby must crawl before he/she walk. A baby must complete that natural curve of crawling before walking. There's no short-cut!!. The elites and the so called educated people in Africa must understand that Africa must go back and complete that curve, cause we have not done so. The world bank and IMF cannot help us complete that natural curve!!. There're no short-cuts!!!. Yes, Fashola is right!!. Africa cannot develop without investment in grassroots science. 2 Likes 1 Share |

cbrass: Yes, you couldn't have avoided it as I shed light on your darkness. Rabiu Kwankwaso of PDP lost his re-election as governor of Kano state in 2003 to Shekarau of ANPP. Guess what ministry OBJ gave him? Full minister of defence. Did Kwankwaso have a military or paramilitary background? Even Jonathan broke the decades old tradition of having a professor as Education Minister. He made the same Shekarau minister in his last 9months. Shekarau only has a Masters and taught as a school teacher, but never lectured in any tertiary institution. But he had administrative experience as a 2term governor. A minister of health does not need a medical background. Works had Anenih ex-policeman, Fashola Aviation had Kema Chikwe, Prof. Aborishade, FFK and Stella Oduah and now Rotimi Amaechi. They all have no technical or engineering or aviation background. They all have no investments in that sector. A minister is a political administrator, deal with it. 1 Like |
