When I was preggers and craving mashed potatoes blue band (original with dark blue cover, not the spread with light blue cover) provided good enough results to fool my baby. The boy only wanted expensive or oyinbo stuff, me that it's mama put I was eating before pregnancy.

Next thing I turned vegetarian, then sight of mama put was making me nauseous. Then I started craving Greek food especially doner kebab. Wanted Greek salads and all these store bought sandwiches all the time. Then one day at 11pm mashed potato stormed my brain...

Oh and garlic mashed potatoes are bae.

The best mashed potatoes, you need fresh herbs like basil or parsley, with sour cream and some salt and black pepper. The only problem is sour cream is hard to find in Lagos; today it is at Shoprite, tomorrow none.

Me i disagree with the boldened oh.

Sweetheart dont attribute your values, level of caution and common sense to everyone.

First of all Just because someone has a child does not make her maternal, and does not mean that she will take a bullet for that child.

and just because you have the common sense to identify harzards and risk around a child, someone else is absolutely ignorant and dismissive of what you assume will be a common sense issue.
ok, Let me point out the contradiction to you since you said you can see none...

you said my statement: "nobody can take care of a child better than the mother" doesn't hold because I can't talk for everyone or other people ... that it's solely my own value...

but you went ahead to speak for people..ref: bolded ... how do you know there are mothers who can't take a bullet for their kids? if my statement can't hold because I can't speak for people or everyone, what makes you think yours holds? or Isn't it solely your belief too?

We both have different beliefs as regards motherhood. ..and you can't say mine is false and yours true except there are higher proven facts to back yours up...

Anyway, my first comment which you quoted wasn't even about this, I knew what I had in mind making that statement. ..wonder how it degenerated to this...
My first comment was about being around to monitor all the time.. you told me not to decieve myself bla bla... as if I don't know that nobody can really monitor all the time..
I cleared that one and you went on to pick on another statement, haba...
you don't really have to try to 'correct' everything, nobody is a kid na...

Cheers!

Happy sunday mamas.

Presva and Alphahandmaiden, this is a classical case of misunderstanding. I understand you both, how come you 2 can't.
All comments were made in good faith so let it slide abeg.

@noqualms1, just make sure you keep baby hydrated. All will be well. Most time these diarrhoeas are viral and will run its course. You are even advised to let d child stool and pass out d offending organism.
As for d diaper rash, it's because of d stooling. Coat the area well with vaseline or sudocream and change nappy more frequently.
Dooo! It will soon pass. Welcome to creche!!!

Thanks ma. I've actually improved hygiene. The two times we've been to the hospital, we saw paediatricians. I took her to MCC at Festac both times. And that is where I've always taken her to. In fact, this last time I asked the doctor to give me something to stop it, she started speaking grammar. I think I've tried medically that's why I want to go traditional.

Thanks so much for taking your time to respond. God bless you.

Don't do traditional, no-one regulates the Trado-medical practitioners so anyone can mix anything. It is not like before. There are several people with liver and kidney issues because of tradomedical quacks. Please tell your dr to write her a referral and take her to Emel Hospital on 21 rd. Ask for Dr. Odudu (he is a consultant paed). If you go, I will also make some phonecalls to ask some siblings what they think (they too will want to see what MCC has been treating for). Your current Dr should tell you what is her diagnosis. It may be something mild but there has to be a reason for why they are only giving ORS and Zinc. If they want it to pass out of her system, okay. Always try and understand what the Dr is saying.

Can you keep baby at home for a week? If she gets better then you may need to find a new creche.

It's upto you sha. All the best.

@PresVA and AlphaHandMaiden,

This s just a plain example of miscommunication...

I understand what, PresVA is saying, "monitor all the time" was not meant literally...just same as mothers taking care of their children better wasn't in the literal form...I for example, believe no one can take care of my kids than moi...whether wrong or right, me don't care, that's my opinion...monitor all the time simply means, I will feel better if I was home and around them...but truth is a lot can n will still happen...

AlphaHandMaiden's response, was just explaining that even with you there, things can happen n PresVA, am sure if you think about it...you must have had some "oh! My word" moments...me I have had oo, DD almost fell out of my hands in the bathroom while bathing! The thought still makes me cringe...she was going head down...on tiled floor! DS fell down the stairs...gate left opened by me...was saved by daddy coming up!

We all need to understand that, there are some advise...if not many...we give out here, which doesn't mean we have done ourselves. It's just that we mothers on the forum look out for each other and share ASAP, what we've just learnt...E.g, I talked about baby proofing the house and making it all relatively safe for our kids...me won't lie you, I only just started yesterday, but almost thru- with my bedroom being the remainder...I only just packed the batteries and all...ah! I still have the Clorox n detergent left in the kids bathroom ooo...anyways, don't mind me, am just looking for cheap praise...

Let's all pls be mindful, the way we respond to each other, written words can be simply mis-interpreted...if it was spoken words it's easier to decipher the love or shades...

Oya, PresVA and AlphaHandMaiden...all na love...

Cheers!

You also need to make sure she's taken her rotavirus vaccination. Rotavirus infections are one of the causes of diarrhoea in young babies.

Try Vaseline.

Apply generous amount of Vaseline around the affected area.

Give her lots of fruits (oranges, etc and not juice) and also lots of water before and after her meals. Cut down on carbohydrates for now and give her more of vegetables and protein

Little madam z fyne now...bought neoskin anti fungai cream last night and those reddish stuffs are no where to be found.

I am not fighting with anyone, i only made comments based someones's statements. It is by no means a criticism of anyones actions.

I am no psychic, if what you write down contradicts your thoughts. Then you cant take offence when i give a response based on what you have written.

In my not so humble opinion, i am the best mother in the world.... and i am sure each person here will feels the same way about their own motherhood. ( na everybody dey carry first for class) grin .

But there is also so many cases of parental abuse and neglect that i have read of and seen that even though i would like give everyone the benefit of doubt that we are all essentially trying to be the best we can be , i am also realistic that it doesnt alway happens that way.

Thanks so much mama. This started when she started creche. And I've spoken to the nannies to improve hygiene around her and what she takes but since I'm not there, I can't do much.

I doubt that it's her meals, she takes what she has been taking before now. And I didn't change her diaper, it seems the rashes started because of too much wiping after pooping.

The rashes really pained me because I had a bad experience with her sister and then a pediatrician told me to stop wipes which I did and it really helped. She's almost 10 months and this is the first time she's having nappy rash. After all my wahala, na wa o.

Thanks for the swift response.

Oh,

I understand better now. Is there any other way to encourage these nannies?

All is well ma'am.

Which traditional way are you looking at? Shebi it is you that will drink the traditional stuff not LO and she feeds from you abi

I don't think it shld necessarily be a drinking thingy, cos I have had to use gbogbo irawo black soap for my Ds,infact the guy selling warned against giving kids/babies things to drink, one can just treat the body as they come out, afteral most vaccines for his age has been taken

NB
And honestly, it worked, hmmmm,I can't say sha, becos while I was using it,I was using baby tribotan and sudocream,my aim was the smooth skined baby that I gave birth to sometimes in July, and that I got...shikena

Please don't cut down on carbohydrates for a baby, that's where they get most of their energy from. Their ability to digest protein from animal sources is very limited.

@ soonest, thanks so much.

@onegai, what I wanted to do traditionally was to use scent leaves. I learnt it helps to stop stooling. As for the diagnosis, the first time I took her to the hospital, full blood count test was done and nothing was found. So the doctor said I should just continue with ORS and zinc. That was some two weeks ago.

When it worsened on Thursday, I had to take her back. The different doctor I met said it has to be from creche and that I should let the nannies know. Then she sent her for another full blood count shocked. I just carried myself out of the place jejely.

As for EMEL, I don't have their money now o. And I can't keep her at home because there's no one to stay. In fact, I prefer that a child stay at home till at least one year of age before creche or school or what have you. But wetin man go do na? Man must chop.

Thanks so much.

@ midasnaturals, she has taken all vaccinations for her age. Thanks.

@ dunasy, thank you. I want to prepare scent leaves for her, I'll take out of it too.

At this rate, we better invest in a NL newborn thread community cow and be getting fresh milk and making our own butter!
