A country waiting for Africa development bank to build road and Chinese to maintain them.
Oga, you're very illiterate in matters concerning infrastructure. AFDB exists for the prime purpose of lending for these kind of projects. The Chinese contractors you see in many developing countries are there to build the said infrastructure. They are contractors. Everyone knows how hard it is to compete with them owing to their rock bottom rates and cheap materials an labour they have. The only maintenance done by a contractor contracted to build anything is covered in a short period post completion called the defect liability period, often not more than 18 months. After the elapse of this period, maintenance is carried out by the owner of the infrastructure, often government, either in house or via maintenance contractors.

Understand that, and quit yapping.

And to add - Kenya is one of shareholders of AFDB - Kenya just borrowed it's share of money.Nigeria last I heard were pleading for IMF/WB loan to see them through recession as they wait for oil prices to recover. Without oil recovering - Nigeria is kaput. The military might not be paid their little 150usd per month salary and they might have to overthrow the civilian gov again.

Kenya dairy - now should have overtaken south africa - to be Africa's largest and sophisticated.
Kenya produces more than 5 billion litres of milk - supplying supermarkets in eastern and southern africa - and soon will enter nigeria market.
Brookside - East and Central Africa's largest dairy company - was valued at 400M usd by French Danonte - who bought 40% stake there.

Now with Africa best dairy breeds - from the best in the world.

Nigeria has oil tankers - we have milk tankers

Kenya dairy is mostly smallholders - with thousands of coolers and collection plants - of course factories

A country waiting for Africa development bank to build road and Chinese to maintain them.
One thing you have been failing to grasp is the fact that a country that like Kenya that lacks mineral/oil wealth have its people as the only resource. The Kenyan government can count on its streamlined revenue collection to pay its syndicated loan, bond bids and internal borrowing to invest in infrastructure building. Kenya is one of the few countries in the world that is considered as credit worthy by its development partners.
The more reason why all major successful institutions in Kenya are goverment and private sector partnership where accountability is high. Imagine the effects of the newly oil deposits located in the northwestern part of the country, most notable among them the South Lokichar field, which is being explored by a joint venture between Tullow Oil, Maersk Oil, and local Africa Oil.Kenya will start refining crude oil in Mombasa. The country will start refining her first crude oil at the Kenya Petroleum Refinery in Mombasa in readiness for export. To facilitate transportation from the Turkana oil fields, the Eldoret-Lokichar road is being upgraded at the cost of Sh3.2 billion.

Kenya has the same mix of ethnic and racial diversity in sports and as a country every citizen has a favorite sporting event. Football is loved by blacks and few whites, cricket is adored by Kenyan asians, horse racing is loved by Kenyan whites and many more. Below is the diversity in different sporting events
1&2 is Ngong race course
3.4 is football at Nyayo stadium

How Lagos emerged fifth largest economy in Africa

Lagos State governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, is certainly no stranger to televised interviews having featured in several before and since being elected into office. But when the governor appeared as a guest in the live recording for the maiden edition of Lagos Global on TV, it certainly elicited more than passing curiousity and interest.

With an improvised studio setting inside the Lagos House Alausa Ikeja venue of the programme recording, Ambode was for over two hours virtually at the mercy of the television crew and the presenter as he responded to different questions while a studio audience, drawn mainly from the business sector, cheered or applauded as the interview session progresed.
Apart from the governor, the recording programme also featured as a guest, Professor Ademola Abass, the Special Adviser to the Governor, Office of Overseas Affairs and Investment. For the duo it was another opportunity to speak and further educate Lagosians, and indeed Nigerians, on what the administration is doing to realise its vision of creating an investment-friendly Lagos State, especially under the auspices of the Office of Overseas Affairs and Investment which the governor established May last year in fulfillment of one of his election promises.
Remarkably this is not a one-off opportunity as viewers will have the opportunity to hear and learn more, through the Lagos Global TV, of the numerous investment opportunities that exist in Lagos and what the government is doing to promote investment by creating the enabling environment. The new television programme, which will run for 26 weeks, will, for now, air on Television Continental, TVC, and Lagos Television, LTV.

Explaining the consideration that informed his decision to establish of the Office of Overseas Affairs and Investment, Governor Ambode said one of his priorities was to see “how to improve on the ease of doing business in Lagos and I also believe that we needed to carry out some kind of public sector reforms to drive the vision which we had actually set for ourselves and we needed to also have a kind of structure and institutional framework that would drive the vision.

The vision is very simple: we want a safer, cleaner and a more prosperous Lagos and one of the structures would be if we want to tackle the issue of bureaucracy in the civil service. And without actually competing with the Federal Government, we needed to find a place where our foreign investors, foreign business men will come in without going from one ministry to the other, … we needed to have a 24/7 one-stop shop office where we can drive investment, especially where our businessmen can actually walk into and get everything that they need. In going about that, we decided to come up with the office of Oversees Affairs and Investment, otherwise known as Lagos Global. It is designed to serve as one-stop shop to facilitate local and international investments.”

On his part, Abass informed that the TV programme to run every week is intended to help Lagosians know what the state government is doing in terms of how it is driving and generating investments and creating job opportunities. He added that though it will be showing for now on TVC and LTV, “by the grace of God by next year we will add another one or two channels” and will retain the current format of studio audience participation. He explained that in the matter of ranking Lagos and Kano are critical, with Lagos having the edge. He buttressed this by informing that Lagos was recently pronounced the fifth largest economy in Africa. “So, it’s no longer a guess work; that means if Lagos today were to be country, we’re the fifth largest economy in Africa,” he said, a dding that it presently has a Gross Domestic Product that is bigger than those of Kenya and Ghana combined.

With regards to Lagos Global, he had this to say: “Primarily our focus or aim is to drive investment. As a government we have no business running business. Our business is to create an enabling environment for the the private sector to partner with government. “Lagos Global aims to ensure that investors who desire to invest in Lagos enjoy a seamless and hurdle-free experience. At Lagos Global, we aim to provide first-class service delivery to investors, right from the point of initial enquiry down to the setting and running of businesses in Lagos State. Our goal is to eliminate difficulties with multi-agency handling of investments”.

Providing the background to this arrangement, Ambode had explained: “We are running on a tripod of security, job creation and improvement of infrastructure. If Lagos is safe, more businessmen will do business and more investments will come to Lagos, thereby creating more jobs and growing our Gross Domestic Products”.

He added that the state was willing to partner with investors who would add value to the people. According to him: “…Our administration has resolved not to be the sole driver of the public enterprise, but rather be an enabler, facilitator and regulator, while the private sector drives the economy. Our focus therefore is a win-win scenario where the private sector makes profitable returns on investment and the government continues to focus on providing quality and improved public services to the citizenry in partnership with the private sector”.

If lagos GDP was that big...it would not have a budget so small..it would be able to collect rates, taxes, license fee and such enough to fund itself..and won't have to inflate their population..to get measily 1b dollars from Oil.

By infrastructure & buildings alone - Lagos - got nothing on Nairobi.

This is funny. All those indians were born in Kenya and are 3 generation. They grew their business from scratch - the first guy there is Shah of BIDCO - who gave UNILIVER serious competition and seem to have prevailed now in 16 countries. would you rather British's Uniliver controls your fast moving household goods (like Najia I bet) or a Kenya born Indian - who is now investing in TATU CITY.

Now Nigeria biggest asset is what OIL. And who owns Nigeria oil. Shell and the likes. You got jokes.Nigeria is poor because it only asset
(having neglected everything else) is rigged by multinationals like Shell/Total.

After messing you economy - what does Shell give your naija gov - measly 20B usd per year - when the oil sold from Nigeria probably running into 150B usd - and that 20B is all you got to pay for your salaries, build your roads and share grin shocked cool

Lagos state as at 1999 was generating internal revenue of N600 million and in 2015 they now generate over 360 billion naira internally generated revenue alone and it's still growing. See the level of growth and still growing. If the GDP was a lie how will you grow that much in a short time and most people still don't pay tax yet Except major companies.

Is Nigeria preparing data for world Bank and IMF?

Why is our figures similar with theirs.

funny, so you think shell actually owned all the petrolium in nigeria
"Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC), usually known simply as Shell Nigeria: A joint venture operated by Shell accounts for 50% of Nigerian's total oil production (899,000 barrels (142,900 m3) per day in 1997) from more than eighty oil fields. The joint venture is composed of NNPC (55%), Shell (30%), TotalFinaElf (10%) and Agip (5%) and operates largely onshore on dry land or in the mangrove swamp in the Niger Delta. "The company has more than 100 producing oil fields, and a network of more than 6,000 kilometres of pipelines, flowing through 87 flowstations. SPDC operates 2 coastal oil export terminals". The Shell joint venture produces about 50% of Nigeria's total crude. Shell Nigeria owns concessions on four companies, they are: Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCO), Shell Nigeria Gas (SNG), Shell Nigeria Oil Products (SNOP), as well as holding a major stake in Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas (NLNG). Shell formerly operated alongside British Petroleum as Shell-BP, but BP has since sold all of its Nigerian concessions. Most of Shell's operations in Nigeria are conducted through the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC)."

If Nairobi was allowed to collect taxes (federal state) - it could internally generates 6-7B USD or in Naira terms...call that 7-8 trillion naira.

Find out Joburg budget - and what they collect - and come here & shout out about Lagos cooked GDP and population.

I am not taking any nigeria figures from naija stats office. They don't make any sense.

iblawi:

Lagos state as at 1999 was generating internal revenue of N600 million and in 2015 they now generate over 360 billion naira internally generated revenue alone and it's still growing. See the level of growth and still growing. If the GDP was a lie how will you grow that much in a short time and most people still don't pay tax yet Except major companies.

Is Nigeria preparing data for world Bank and IMF?

Why is our figures similar with theirs.

Nigeria wealth is owned by Shell/total and the likes - with a few of corrupt Nigeria allies. Oil is your only sector of economy - well we can add entertainment for entertainment sake shocked & internet' irokotv - for the sake of it.Kenya economy is well diversified and sophisticated there is no way Indians or whites can dominate it.

who own Oando, who own Con oil, who own Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC),believe me when I say Nigerians own Nigeria not Indians owning Kenya
funny, so you think shell actually owned all the petrolium in nigeria

THEY OWN HALF OF KENYA WEALTH

1. Bhimji Depar Shah and family (Indians) -he is a business man, industrialist and entrepreneur, he is the founder of BIDCO Groupof companies, he started by opening a petrol station and later ventured into garment manufacturing Business and the company later switched to soap making.

The problem with Nigerians is that they live in a world of utopia, defending even what cannot be admissible in the publics opinion. You forgot to mention that he is fluent in several local dialects mainly Kikuyu and Kiswahili. His children went to Kenyan public schools and are holding Kenyan passports and wouldn't trade it for anything.
