CHAPTER FOUR Makydebbie, Jay542, Iykekelvins, Davide470, Lawlahdey Kaylee’s eyes fluttered open as the laid on the hospital bed. “Daniel?” she mumbled. “He’s gone,” a voice answered. Kaylee turned to her side and saw a man seated on a chair by the side of the bed. “Who are you?” She asked as she tried to get up. “Pluto.” “And you’re here because?” She asked as she raised an eyebrow. “Because I was employed to do so” He replied as he stretched his hand to touch her forehead so as to know her temperature. “Take your hands off me,” Kaylee yelled as she pushed his hands away and made to stand up on the bed. “Don’t be so feisty now, miss. I’m simply a caregiver” Kaylee scoffed and rolled her eyes. “How are you my caregiver? I’m female so I expect a female caregiver or whatever you call yourself,” “Well I was the only one available to be present.” He said with a sigh "And the doctor said to check your body temperature when you wake up so you can be discharged if you’re okay but since your still a bit shaken at my presence, I’ll be in the car park waiting for you.” He added as he walked towards the door. There was a swift knock on the door followed by its opening and a doctor came in. He was Kaylee’s family doctor and was also the one who had helped her run the diagnosis that made her aware of her problem. He had his head buried in a file and when he raised it up, he stood fixed in a spot, shocked to see Kaylee standing on the bed. “I see you’re fully recovered,” the doctor managed to say. “But you should at least sit to gain more strength,” He added. Kaylee lowered her head and sat cross legged on the bed. “You don’t seem to have any problems externally, so I can discharge you immediately. Just stay away from the alcohol and keep on taking the drugs…” He trailed off as he caught a glimpse of Pluto standing by his side. “for the other one,” he completed. He turned to face Pluto. “The doctor that attended to you previously informed me you’re the caregiver of this woman. Is that so? “Yes,” Pluto replied “Well come with me for her drugs, injection and briefing of her medical condition.” The doctor replied. “I don’t think you should tell him yet,” Kaylee cut in. “It’s not an affirmative that he might stay.” “It’s really hard to find professional caregivers in this part of Nigeria. And you wouldn’t want your brother Daniel, who still has to work tirelessly already, to go through all that difficulty because of your petty needs now, would we? Pluto interjected. Kaylee looked at the floor as she thought of it. “Fine,” she murmured. Pluto and the doctor left the room together. Kaylee spotted a grey bag on next to the chair Pluto had been sitting on. She opened it and saw the cloth she had worn the day Daniel had found her scrawled on the floor of her living room. She wondered how he had managed to get in but she made a conscious reminder to ask him the next time they met. It also crossed her mind to ask him who had changed her cloth but she let it pass because it would seem awkward. She walked to the toilet, bag in hand to change her clothes and minutes later came out. She dropped the hospital gown on the bed and walked towards the door. She opened it and found Pluto standing in front of it. “Ready?” He asked. “Yes but can I ask a question?” She answered. “What?” “Don’t you have any other name other than Pluto. I mean, it kind of feels like I’m talking to a dog. You know, Mickey Mouse’s Pluto and all.” He looked at her puzzled. “Are you serious?” He blurted out. “I’m just asking,” she replied as she walked out of the room to the car park. DAVID After I drove off from Kaylee’s place I went home. I didn’t bother to microwave the leftover rice from the previous day and instead threw it away. It sickened me because it had been cooked by Kay. I went to my bedroom and fell on the bed, too tired to have a shower before falling asleep. The next day, I had a cold shower and coffee afterwards. I was sipping on the coffee when I had a phone call. I checked, and it was my mother. I was in no mood for phone calls and was on the verge of hanging up but I changed my mind. “Hello,” the voice said. “Ma,” I replied. “You have to come home right now,” she said excitedly. “Why?” I asked as I rolled my eyes. My mother always called for the most irrelevant things. This included following her shopping, helping her rearrange her closet and drinking tea with her to name a few. I offered to get her a maid to help her and keep her company but she rejected the offer. “There’s someone here that you have to see and quickly,” she said, almost screaming. “Okay, I’m on my way,” I tell her. She seemed very excited and she was never excited at anything so I decided to go and see the cause of it. I quickly took my bath and dressed up. I called her again to prepare something for me to eat since I would be unable to do so before I leave my house. The distance was an hour but I was able to beat it by ten minutes by following some shortcuts. As I stepped into the house I caught a whiff of a familiar scent which I was unable to place. My mother came up to me and hugged me. “You need to go to the reading room right now,” she said, her excitement still showing in her voice. I turned and started walking towards the reading room. I hasten my steps as I reach the passage way. The empty spot on the wall on the wall always gave me eerie feeling, so did my father’s library. He considered it a very private spot and restricted access to it so to respect this I never bothered to find out why it was inaccessible. As I got closer to the reading room, the scent from earlier grew stronger. I got there and opened the door then stepped into the room which was filled with the scent. “Hello David,” I heard from behind at the same time the door closed. I turned to see the person behind me and almost dropped dead from the shock. I swallowed the saliva stuck in my throat and managed to call her name. “Isabella.” 14 Likes 13 Shares |

As for the "new mother", Information about her was purposely left out and will be revealed towards the end of the story. Thank you again for reading... yorhmienerd: It's been explained.
