There's safety in numbers, should Igbos leave Nigeria the SS would remain the only region with Christian majority, I don't think the SW would mind adopting Hausa as their lingua franca.

I honestly taught the second language was Arabic. The way it is used alongside English on our naira and military. Buhari should just come out and tell us that Arabic is the Second language not all this hausa crap.

There's nothing wrong with a White Pope. The White People brought the Christian religion, so having a White Pope isn't unusual or out of place.

On the other hand, Awusa can be the official language of the Islamic Republic of Are-Oduastan or Odu-Arewastan or whichever names you folks choose to go by, I don't give a fvck about that.... But as long as the Igbo nation remains a part of this evil and vile contraption known as Nigeria, that nonsense will never happen.

Who stopped Hausas from speaking their language to their generation? But if they think I will join them in speaking such, that's where there will be problem. No one in my household will speak such a language God willing

asorocker:
The population of Hausa speakers in Nigeria has reached about 120 million, a colloquium has said. This was contained in a communiqué issued on Thursday at the end of a one-day colloquium organised by the Department of African Languages and Cultures, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria Kaduna State.

The communiqué, which was signed by Dr Balarabe Danladi and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said numerical strength, was a major consideration in which language becomes official. “This is because, it has speakers all over the world and the speakers are grouped into native and non-native speakers. “In Nigeria, native Hausa speakers exceed 70 million and non-native speakers who use Hausa as second language are likely to be between 40 and 50 million on a conservative estimate,” it added

The communiqué said it had also been observed that more than one-third of the total population of Nigeria, understood Hausa language, and that for being widely spread, within and outside Nigeria had established the fact that “Hausa is a lingua-franca in Nigeria. “This position has made it easier for Government to promote Hausa to the level of an official language in Nigeria

The argument is that a language that acquires lingua-franca status demands little effort from the government and scholars to qualify as an official language”, it noted. It said Hausa language is used in Mosques, Churches, business transactions and a host of other social and political activities. The communiqué said Hausa language had international recognition which served as a good index to initiate the process of making it an official one. It said Hausa had been recognised internationally in various spheres such as Microsoft, foreign universities, international media, Face book and other international works, and that adoption of indigenous language, particularly Hausa, would facilitate national growth and development. (NAN)

To promote?

I think ya all need to read patiently this time. It's not being forced on anyone.

Every tribe can choose to promote their language. Besides, it's not even signed into law,and where is the OP link sef?
It's not even official.

I think they should as well, set-up a Hausa University.
One would think that organizations like Ohan'eze would aim to establish an Igbo University akin to Afrikaans University, SA, for the development of Igbo language, scholarships, translation of foreign works - books etc.
If they can achieve that, they would leave a legacy for generations ahead.

If I can do that myself, I'd be happy!

I just read something stupid. We never learn Igbo finish na Hausa we go learn.

Where can Hausa take anybody to in this world? US, UK or China. Who in their right senses want to go to Boko Haram Country?

Hausa remains a language for the Hausa man, maybe his yoruba slaves or sidekick but leave us SS AND SE out.
You are ignorant and base your rants on emotions. There should be at least 10 million Igbos residing in northern Nigeria who speak fluent Hausa. Nobody forced them to learn it, they did, so as to acquire another weapon for survival in a different environment. For your information, Hausa is the most widely spoken indigenous language in sub-Saharan Africa

MadamExcellency:
Thank goodness this can't happen while the Easterners remain in Nigeria.

Sharia war taught us lessons we shouldn't forget so easily.

Hausa-Fulani is not even majority in Nigeria. They are less than 40% hence can't impose their language on 250 different native language speakers.
what?? 40 percent? Hausaa with fulani combined aint even close to 30 percent of nigerian population. Most times,we see anybody wearing overalls, bearing names like musa and speaking hausa as hausa peeps. Most of dem are nothern minorities like tivs, beroms, kanuris, teras, mandaras, gudufs, nupe, eggons, gbayis, egbiras ,jukun ,igalas,buras,shuwas,tarohs,agatus,angas,..etcetc

There are even more igbos that can speak yoruba and french but it is not an official language.

I dont give a fcuck if the entire desert community can speak Hausa, i am not from that region.

We reject it.

What has religion got to do with tribe...
A white pope was not forced but elected by both white and black cardinals of the catholic faith

But the hausa language is about being forced down on a country of more than a 180 million people...same way oil blocs in the Niger-Delta were forcefully taken and shared to a few evil northeners who know nothing about the environmental destruction that is going on in the Niger-Delta...

This is oppression and I see it as one of the ploy by the North to call this country ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA.

Well I don't blame the north. I blame ALHAJI (LORD) FREDERICK MOHAMMED LUGARD and the ISLAMIC sorry UNITED KINGDOM for this sham called Nigeria.

The north is simply looking for trouble.

This is my humble opinion.
