And others too numerous to mention Notwithstanding being produced in Nigeria, the cost has increased 100% since March, 2016 hence stop supporting Buhari's economic devastation before he causes more havoc. |

mrvitalis: On the contrary, we are seeing this as a trend. Labana Rice (short grain) is N19000 Ebony rice (super) is 19000 while Ebony gold rice is 23000. Are these commodities imported? No Tell Buhari to do something economically unusual but within norms to dissuade uncertainty in the market as to restore investors confidence thereby stabilising trade and financial sectors altogether. |

mrvitalis: start producing when your government is doing to frustrate manufacturers. abeg we are tired of pointing out these facts to you people . You can judge from the dwindling number of e-supporters like you. you can't fool the people everytime. we cant all be foolish and just a handful of you are very knowledgeable. Little things like conducting free and fair elections are now uphill tasks in Nigeria now 1 Like |

Alanzazani:Bro this government has always expressed willingness to help the real manufacturers The trick is this if u are a local manufacturing company. .. Then why do u need forex? |

egbonnla: Was he drugged into surrounding himself by such people? He is a conceited, ignorant bigot himself and that is why he surrounds himself with inept, dirty praise-singers that will tell him he has done well when he has done absolutely nothing right! The fact that he holds himself out as the only upright and clean person without blemish in Nigeria should give a clue of the kind of person he is. |

mrvitalis: Don't be such a simpleton! Let me now explain to you why a local manufacturing company needs forex: 1. Not all aspects of production is completely local. Take Dangote for instance, why does he need and is in fact granted priority over all others for forex? Production/manufacturing is not by mere manpower and bare hands; the machinery to be used must be imported. Spare parts are therefore also imported. Ajaokuta steel industry has remained dead. We do not have close to steady power supply therefore any serious manufacturing company must import or order power generating sets. Technical know-how particularly for maintenance of these machinery is at an all-time low in Nigeria; it therefore follows that maintenance crew must be flown in and paid as expatriates. That is forex. Take Erisco who was recently frustrated out of business in Nigeria due to this same forex issue. He had set up a tinned tomato manufacturing company. Yes, the basic raw material ie tomatoes are sourced locally but we have not yet developed agriculture to meet all-year farming and harvest requirements. It means tomatoes are only seasonal and become suddenly more expensive and even unavailable when out of season. If he must stay in business, he must import tomatoes. The machines for crushing and all other preparations until packaging are again imported as they are not produced in Nigeria. He faces same power issues and must acquire power generating sets too. Materials for packaging may be sourced in raw form locally but the finishing into tins and sachets according to specification is one not obtainable locally. He must therefore import same. I hope it makes sense to you now why local manufacturers still need forex heavily. Agricultural produce grown here have also jumped in prices and why is that? It is so because the onion or yam seller for instance has to pay increased rates for yet unavailable electricity, he/she must wear clothes and even the cheap okrika option is no longer cheap because they are imported too. They will pay rent and pay higher for increased petrol and kerosene prices. Even makeup and essential creams are up too; childrens' fees must be paid and those are also hiked as well, childrens' demands automatically appear to increase because 15k that might have been enough for pocket money is no longer enough. Their TV goes bad, they need to replace and TVs are imported! So you see that her prices must go up because they will not go out of business. |
