It is my personal opinion that any addiction (with the exception of strong narcotics) can be overcome with willpower- an extreme desire to not want to engage in them again. If you believe it's preventing you from fulfilling your God-given destiny, it becomes easier to stop. Cc: Shadeyinka

Strong will power!?
I agree except that most addictions come in subtly and break the resistance and power of the will.
There are things that break addictions:
1. Self deliverance
2. Shameful disgrace
3. Substitutions

Many addictions are (strongly or weakly) spiritual in nature.

If this is the case, why are support groups like 'Alcoholics Anonymous' and 'Gamblers Anonymous' effective?.....I actually called you to help the guy and not to argue with me.

I wasn't arguing I said that "I agree with You...". I only pointed out that in addictions the will power is the first point of attack.

Okay boss.

If only we do things in moderation, I'm not sure we'll have much problem in life. Anything you put your mind and energy to do within a short time becomes part of you. This is why we have to be very careful with the things we do. Everybody is exposed to the cause of these things you listed here and even more but they control the situation and not jump into it and allow the pleasure swallow them. Once you let the urges control you, you become a slave to those urges and it uses you at will to do those things you find so much pleasure in unconsciously. You become addicted. The urges now become a curse for you but for same urge, others can deal with it. You like women/sex so much, you become a womanizer/prostitute and/or porn addict and at worst masturbate when your partner is not around you. You loves wine a lot, you become a drunkard. Everything has to be in moderation so that you don't fall into temptation. Even the food we eat, eat small so that you don't eat and become obese or spend all your monthly salary on food.

Once you let urge push you to become an addict to something, then that urge become a curse to you. No drug can help you once it become a curse, not even your self will. Self will nevertheless is a good start, it can lead you to the real solution but can never be in itself a solution. Self will can only work while you are in public or busy, once in a closet and/or alone and the urge come, it becomes a war. You can hardly win such war with your self effort and how long would you have to be fighting with your inner self? Only God can break addiction completely from you without urges pushing you to do those things again. If you have a problem with how you should go about it, let me know. You can even drop off your addictions with 2016 and walk into 2017 clean.
