Dear forgiveness, nice write-ups, to be frank there are a lot of nigerian MNCs I did not know. But I only posted 1 (the largest) in each sector or 2 where I wasn't sure who's the largest. Doesn't mean they're the only ones Petroleum sector :- kenolkobil is in 12 countries with just a little less revenue than Oando as at 2014. Write now I think it has more revenue than your giant since oandos revenues shrank yoy for the past 2 years. -Hashi energy with operations in 5 countries. - National Oil corporation of Kenya (NOCK), an upstream petroleum Co that's in 3 nations. With entry plans in 4 others (The 2 Sudans, DRC and Tz) at an advanced stage Your Heyden is not in Russia, UAE and Europe, it only has agreements with refineries there to buy oil at reduced prices and be the market's cheapest option. The same way Hashi has such with Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Kuwait That to me is a draw Insurance sector :- -KenyaRe - this is a real giant with branches in 62 countries across Africa, the middle east and Asia. -BRITAM is in the 7 countries I named earlier. -CIC Insurance Group Limited operates mainly in Kenya, Uganda , South Sudan and Malawi. -UAP insurance group is in Kenya, Uganda , South Sudan, Rwanda, Tanzania , the Democratic Republic of Congo , and Mauritius -liberty insurance - they just say all over Africa. Kenya wins here. Banking :- No need to mince words here, Nigeria is the winner Telecommunications:- Safaricom is bigger than glo in terms of revenue. Safaricom's network provisions department is limited to Kenya since a shareholder, vodacom is active in Africa. But it's mobile money department is in eastern Europe, middle east, Asia and Northern, eastern central and Southern Africa (don't know why they haven't gone West) Kenya wins by a slight (unfair) margin Beverages -EABL and Keroche breweries are of course larger than any alcohol maker in Nigeria. -Highlands Co, initially only dealing with water is now giving coca Cola a scare in the soda business Until you post more on Naija, kenya wins [b] food processing [b] -BIDCO is the largest producer, marketer and retailer of consumer goods in Africa with operations in 16 countries -pwani oil is one of the world's leaders in vegetable oil, soaps and fats. Has distribution networks in 9 countries Kenya wins To be continued... 2 Likes |

iblawi:LAWD!! That picture shows NUMBER of fibre optics in Africa. 70% of the fibre optics in West Africa are owned by SOUTH AFRICANS with only a few like the Glo-1 one being in the hands of West Africans. Who doesn't know of the dramas of SAT-3?? By capacity, the Fibre optics with the Highest capacity on the continent is EASSy!!(The East African Submarine system) At 10 terabit per second!!! http://www.eassy.org/about.html https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EASSy From your Nigerian communications week the capacity of Nigerian offshore fibre optics are: 1. Glo-1 2.5 tbit/s (640Gbits/s in use) 2. Main One 1.28Tb/s; 3. WACS 3.84Tb/s; 4. SAT-3 340Gbit/s(Jeez!) http://www.nigeriacommunicationsweek.com.ng/taxonomy/term/2608 Kenya has the following 1.TEAMS 1.2. Tbits/s(120 Gbits/s in use)https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TEAMS_(cable_system) I like to emphasize on this one as despite its relatively low capacity, it is the only Fibre optic that has Government shareholding directly(indirectly it still has through Safaricom and Telkom Kenya) on the continent. It is also by far the cheapest one. Can you show may any offshore fibre optic that sells bandwidth at less than $4 per MB in Africa??Anyone?? it is why residential broadband is so cheap in Kenya!!! Our Government made sure that Kenya got fast and cheap internet access through TEAMS!! 2. EASSy 10 Tbits/s(1.4 Tbit/s in use)http://www.eassy.org/(Currently the cable with the highest bandwidth capacity on the continent by faaaar!!) Even your map shows the bandwidth in use 3.SEACOM 2.6 Tbits/s(Shareholders currently upgrading the system to 12Tbit/s) http://mybroadband.co.za/news/broadband/102039-seacom-capacity-increase-to-12tbps.html 4. LION-2 1.28 Tbit/s (This one is for Mombasa city mind you being connected to the Indian Ocean territories. 1.2 Tbit/s is a lot for one city!! As Lion-2 currently has only Mombasa based ISPs as its customers) https://www.telegeography.com/products/commsupdate/articles/2010/09/24/lion2-planned-for-indian-ocean/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LION_(cable_system) 1 Like |

iblawi: http://allafrica.com/stories/201506051626.html Kenya has moved six positions up in this year's ICT Network Readiness Index revealed at this year's World Economic Forum in Cape Town. Last year, Kenya held the 92nd position and moved up to the 85th position , coming in as the fifth country in Africa after South Africa at position, 75, Morocco at 78, Tunisia at 81 and Rwanda at position 83 globally. The report showed that big economies in Africa like South Africa and Nigeria fell in rankings and only Kenya showed yearly improvement. For instance South Africa fell from 70 to 75th position this year and Nigeria lost ground to be 119th position from 112 achieved previously. Kenya's growth has been attributed to the developments that have been witnessed in the country's ICT sector. The Networked Readiness Index (NRI) as well reveals that the almost perfect correlation between a country's level of ICT uptake and the economic and social impacts ICTs have on its economy and society. 2 Likes |

AfroCircus:You don't even know what it means to compare a sector with another. Glo is owned by one man and it only one of the of many of such in the sector. Telecom sector main one, spectranet, Ntel, Galaxy backbone, intercelluar, starcom etc. We have a lot of players in the sector to consider. Banking sector: Nigeria have 22 banks and 18 of them are in top 100 in Africa. Insurance and others do the same. |

GERALD710: Hehehehe! This guy keeps pilling up excuses. I know you are not dull and you can differentiate between MNCs and local champions, btw a global rating and a local rating of GERALD710. In oil and gas, Nigeria has more than 20 MNCs in oil and gas industry compared with 1 MNCs company in Kenya, sorry. In banking, do you mean Kenya's banks operations are in the space to have missed this international ratings? ' Kenya(Switzerland banks) that cannot make to 60 in Africa or top global banks in the world. Why are Kenya's banks not among ratings? I see, na Oluwola rating you dey use. Since, it is a government company then I will also add Africa Reassurance corporation. Who is the highest share holder in Africa Reassurance corporation, that will decide the owner? Until den, draw. In telecommunication, is Safaricom in the league of MNCS I don't think so. I cannot find Safaricom on this list, again!? https://www.google.com.ng/amp/venturesafrica.com/made-in-africa-these-are-the-top-10-most-admired-african-brands/amp/ Hello! We are talking about international ratings here and not one unprofitable analyses. In technology, does Kenya have something close to MainOne with operations in Africa and Europe? Kenyanstar: Guy, free education doesn't equally better. Besides, you can't compare primary school in Africa cause it will have too many inaccurate data. For example, OYO state In Nigeria have more than 2000 public primary and secondary schools. What will the figures be if I add private schools in the state to the list and how will you measure performance across Africa. It's better we just compare tertiary institutions instead. Nigeria have 14 schools in top 100 list and Kenyans have just six and almost 30 in top 200 but Kenya 12. 2016 ranking. https://www.4icu.org/top-universities-africa/ Is that fear enough. |

iblawi: Thats why i said i wonder how you survive without a functioning brain.... You should make use of those links we provide at least to avoid making yourself look idiotic. I wont blame you anyway, most Nigerians see electricity like once in a year like the eclipse of the moon. http://ltwp.co.ke/ THE PROJECT OVERVIEW The Lake Turkana Wind Power Project (LTWP) is the single largest private investment in Kenya’s history. The wind farm covers 40,000 acres (162 km²) and is located in Loiyangalani District, Marsabit County. The Ksh70 billion wind farm aims to provide 310MW of reliable, low cost wind power to Kenya’s national grid, equivalent to approximately 18 per cent of the country’s current installed electricity generating capacity. On completion, the project will comprise 365 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 850 kW, the associated overhead electric grid collection system and a high voltage substation that will be connected to the national grid. The power produced will be bought at a fixed price by Kenya Power (KPLC) over a 20-year period in accordance with the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the latter.

Kenya has plenty of players in Kenya's telcom sector. We have 3 main mobile service providers Safaricom(Kenyan majority owned as 35% by the Government of Kenya and 25% on the NSE) Airtel(The only fully owned foreign telco) Telkom Kenya(60% Helios 40% Government of Kenya) We however have so many other players including Flashcomm, Popote wireless which run on the CDMA network we have 100 ISPs in Kenya https://softkenya.com/it/internet-service-providers-in-kenya/ Some are purely corporate, some purely residential, the largest are mixed, some are national ,some only serve specific regions or even only specific towns. 1 Like |

AfroCircus: Good to know we are both learning. However, I don't think Nigeria is in the same league with Kenya in the Oil and gas industry. How do you know Oando profit shrank this year? And did you see only Oando and Hyden on the list? I listed more than 5 of them without listen government owned NNPC, NLNG Nigeria, etc If go by this, it is a TKO in favour of Nigeria's oil and gas industry. In insurance, Nigeria also have more than 10 insurance companies outside Nigeria. That to me is a draw. When it comes to Telecommunications, Glo is MNCs than Safaricom. It is roaming services is available in more than 170 countries. You can't compare. It is a global network. https://www.google.com.ng/amp/venturesafrica.com/made-in-africa-these-are-the-top-10-most-admired-african-brands/amp/ Nigeria won here too FCMG is where I know Kenya companies are champions but I will highlight Nigeria's MNCs strength. |

We have posted a lot of pictures, from Sarit Centre, Yaya Centre, Garden Estate, Thika Road Mall, Westgate Shopping Mall, Juja City Mall etc and those are not supermarkets my friend. A supermarket is a single unit selling everything but a mall has a supermarket in them plus many other things like spas, and many businesses and services. You are here complaining about Africa Development Bank and how Nigeria owns 10% of it. But do you have an 8-laned super highway. forgiveness:Dude, you either do not understand English or something. I never siad anything about size did I?? My argument has been very clear, no matter how big Nigerian companies are, they are poor at service delivery. And it is a sign that West Africa has no alternative options which is why they are so large. In East Africa, we have Egypt and South Africa to contend with as we are in the same economic blocs, which is why Kenyan companies emphasize on QUALITY I said KENYAN BANKS ARE MORE SOPHISTICATED THAN NIGERIAN BANKS, NOT BIGGER!!I never compare size as even in Kenya, Equity is the second largest bank in Kenya offers far less services than Standard Chartered or I&M which are smaller. The country which Paypal only entered this year, which has minimal presence of major ACH banks like Barclays or HSBC is more sophisticated that the country where paypal has been around since 2008 and ACH banks have been around since the 60sNOT Kenya has the most sophisticated financial sector in Africa after South Africa http://www.theworldfolio.com/interviews/kcb-at-the-epicenter-of-africas-economic-transformation-agenda/3987/ http://africabusinesscommunities.com/news/kenya-bank-regulator-issues-14-day-ultimatum-to-banks-to-cap-lending-rates.html Meanwhile in 'We are the biggest ' Nigeria. Nigerians complaining about poor services from banks. http://guardian.ng/news/cbn-to-move-against-banks-over-poor-services/ This Nigerian blogger had a lot to say about Nigerian banks https://pearlosibu./2016/02/22/nigerian-banks-are-just-useless-first-bank-as-case-study/ If that is the price for boasting about how big Nigerian banks are, then please, let our banks stay small, highly sophisticated and offering polite instant services!!! As for Reinsurance The 41 African countries collectively have 38.75% while African Development Bank (AfDB), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), DEG (Germany), PROPARCO (France) and FMO (Netherlands) have 61.25% thus Nigeria is nowhere near a top shareholder there. http://www.africa-re.com/en/EN/aboutus/page/8/shareholders Read more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/08/africa-reinsurance-gives-shareholders-11months-to-subscribe-to-new-shares/ Kenya Reinsurance has no competition in this area and I emphasize that it is owned by OUR GOVERNMENT and not some crackpot person who pilfered public funds to build his empire. My taxes help build that!! Again, who told you that a company has to be a multinational to be big?? Let us compare Glo a multinational and Safaricom. A local company What were the profits made by Glo, which you keep touting so much, as compared to Safaricom And I mean PROFIT not REVENUE,PROFIT!!! Last I checked, the only telco making any money worth mentioning in terms of profit is MTN, which is not Nigerian. These days, your telco dare not publish profits, they only publish revenue, but even in revenue, all of them are complaining of the revenue losses due to your recession. We know that revenues in Nigeria are huge but the cost of operations like having generators at every radio station eat up those revenues.leading to the company having losses instead of profit in spite of huge revenues. May I point out that Kenya is currently growing at 5.9% as you people continue to bleed money. 2 Likes |
