Volvo V40 is one of the most reliable cars on the market now, you can get the parts too, except of course you reside in states like zamfara or jigawa.

As for what your mechanic said about engine block cracking, I believe even you know that comment reeks of ignorance, my best bet is that he's a Japanese mechanic and he knows if you buy a volvo then he's lost a client, so he'll do everything possible to make sure that doesn't happen.

You are the one who's going to buy the car and use it daily, not your mechanic, so your research from other sources and be the judge
