Good afternoon mamas. Please I am 6weeks now (7weeks by Saturday) but I want to go for scan today. Can I do that or is it too early? Is there any reason why I need to wait a little? Also, I know my bladder has to be full for me to go for normal scan. Is that also applicable for pregnancy scan? Thank you mas |
Re: Pregnancy Are You Pregnant Or Going Through A High Risk Pregnancy,,lets Talk by Ganjababe: 1:05pm On Dec 07, 2016 |
Dear Mama, You have to be full before going for Scan. You will need to take plenty water. And it is also not too early for Scan @ 7 weeks. All the best Ma. Other sabi mamas will provide their input |

spiceeamiee: It depends on the type of scan they want to do. If it's TVC scan, you'll need to empty your bladder. If it's pelvic scan, your bladder has to be full. I think Tvc scan will be recommended for you @ 7 wks. 1 Like |

Yes you have to have a full bladder for the pelvic scan until you are farther along. Ask the sonographer to tell you what to do if it's too early or not before you make payment. Since its kinda early dey might recommend a transvaginal scan sha! spiceeamiee: 1 Like 1 Share |

I had my first scan at 7weeks. I didn't have a full bladder per say and it was the normal abdominal ultrasound that I had and not a transvaginal scan. spiceeamiee: |

@Ganjbabe, @Graciouscharis, @Naomi14 and @jazzyjazz thanks for your suggestions. I wanted to use the lab in my office complex but after reading your suggestions, I asked them for TVC and they said they don't do it. Hian! So I either wait till next week to do the pelvic one or do TVC over the weekend |

Cappo Sixx, we are pushing o. Nothing much to say just that I have swollen feet each time I sit for long and I have starting noticing stretch mark on my tummy. I pray I don't have more than the small one that have shown. I was battling with hbp too but thank God it's normal now. My hbp was pregnancy induced cos my bp has always been normal. |

My Birth Story. It's not a brief one I was booked for an induction for the 27th by my doctor because of the twin factor, by which time I would have been 38 weeks pregnant, that was if I didn't fall into labour before that time. He advised before hand that I have an early epidural to save me the stress of the pain coming. All the while I thought to myself, is it not labour pains? I can manage as I have a high threshold for pain I ate dates, did lots of house chores and climbed stairs, yet my LOs chilled in my tummy and refused to move an inch. Luckily my presenting twin was already head down but there was a possibility I would deliver via CS because my twin B was sometimes in a breech or transverse position. The guy was just moving anyhow he wanted. The d day came, we packed the hospital bag, I even wore make up and dressed like I was going for a party, well except that I had slippers on. DH and I prayed and left the house with the faith that we would be coming back with our bundles of joy in our hands. We got there around 4pm and after all the paper work was sorted. I was admitted. They gave us a private room because I would need more medical staff. The nurse examined me and discovered I was already 2cm dilated. Oh, that's great news I thought to myself I would give birth soon! They brought the catether containing what they will use to soften the cervix and inserted it. It was uncomfortable but not painful for me at that point. DH and I were still chilling, gisting and pressing our phones. The midwife told me it will take 12 hours for me to start feeling contractions. That was around 6pm. Fast forward to 7.15pm, I started seeing some stars. At first I thought my brain was making it up so I stood up to use the bathroom. I was able to open my bowels and as I made to stand up from the toilet seat, my back just hooked. Like I was feeling hot pains down there and I screamed. DH helped me up after much trials and time to sit on the bed but I couldn't. Ah, is this the pains already? They were coming and going. We didn't know that cervix softener had made my girl uncomfortable and she wanted out ASAP. I had promised myself I wouldn't cry no matter what, men, when the pain came again, I started pacing up and down the room pleading the blood of God. At some point, I started speaking in tongues. It was not funny. This went on for about 45 minutes before I couldn't take it anymore. Pressed the buzzer for the midwife. She came and helped me lay on the bed slowly. Told me she would conduct a VE. As I heard that, one fear just gripped me. All the while, DH was holding my hand, phone tossed away, praying for me. He kept trying to calm me down and probably because he knows for me to be acting that way, the pain must be so high as I was still not crying but just groaning. When the pain comes, it will be like hell but as soon as it subsides, I'll feel so relieved. I was practising the breathing technique and it did help sometimes. The midwife checked and saw I was 3cm dilated. You are having contractions she said. Despite the pain, I was happy and kind of relieved to hear that. She did say that I was progressing fast. So they decided that they will move me to the birth section. And that's when the drama started... I was put in a wheelchair and a midwife was assigned to wheel me to my room in the birth section. On our way there, I started feeling light headed. As we turned a corner, I felt the urge to throw up. A midwife saw the way I was looking from afar off and rushed to me with a vomit bag. God bless her because I threw up all over myself and over her. But they were all calm and kept telling me I'll be fine and it's perfectly normal to throw up given that I was already on hormones and coupled with the epi. We got to my room and I changed into my hospital gown. They broke my baby's water and it felt like I had peed on myself. Water kept gushing out of me. Syntocinon was inserted into my arm to commence labour. They kept monitoring my LOs' heartbeats on the CTG machine non stop and were checking my BP and temperature. Everything looked good, I slept a little. The contractions intensified in the morning, I was given breakfast but was still being monitored. I tried not to tear up but sometimes hot tears will well up in my eyes and I'll plead the blood of Jesus. They were lasting for about 45 seconds and I was having an average of 2 contractions in 10 minutes. By 12 noon I was 5 cm dilated, so they said I will be checked by 4pm and by that time I should have been almost close to 10cm. The doctor that did that VE was not nice at all, she kept a straight face and chooked her hand inside me. I later learnt they do that on purpose and that it's not a personal thing. I was hopeful but they advised I take the epidural at that point so I did. Whoever invented that epidural of a thing, God bless you and your generation. It was bliss from that point on. I had a couple of more VEs but I didn't feel the pains again. By 4pm, I was still 5cm, by 7pm I was 6cm. By this time, I was really exhausted and I was feeling dizzy and nauseous. I was still being closely monitored and my vitals taken every now and then. The doctor had a chat with my obstetrician on the phone and she came back to advise we go for a caesarean not because I was not progressing but I was not progressing enough and in record time and to avoid infection to my first baby. Although they gave me the option to wait if I wanted but I didn't want to stress my babies anymore. I was very feverish at this point, my temperature went up and they took my blood to test for infection. DH and I prayed and signed the consent form. I was prepped for the theatre, numbed by the anaesthetist and by 8pm surgery began. I felt the twinge of the surgery but it was not so uncomfortable, I just knew they were working on me. Babies were born with loud cries about 10 minutes later and placed on me for a few minutes for skin to skin contact before the paediatrician took them for observations. I was stitched up and was out of the theatre by 8.30pm. I prayed all through the surgery and God helped the doctors. Everything happened so fast but I've never felt so sleepy in my life at the end! I threw up again after the surgery. I was happy it ended in praise and I didn't carry my babies for 9 months all for nothing. I was then wheeled to the recovery room and my babies were brought to me. They looked so cute I couldn't believe it. DH joined me and we were taken back to my room. I'm grateful for all the advice, suggestions and questions answered here. This thread was so helpful throughout my pregnancy journey. My CS site is healing well, I am recovering fast and I can take care of my kids confidently now. Thanks to everyone for the love. realdentist: Hi hon. I would pick: cotton, hemp and bamboo. I've used them and I like them a lot, they are easier to clean and are natural fibres as opposed to microfibres. I use microfibre and it absorbs a lot, but that absorption means it is the hardest to wash (mine are the best on the market and they build up a smell eventually). Also some mums had compression leakages (when the microfibre insert is full and baby sits on it, it leaks. That doesn't happen with cotton, hemp or bamboo and the minimum absorption I have gotten from any of the the inserts is 3 to 4 hours. Doctors tend to prefer the plant-based materials for inserts too because a lot of children are being born with more allergies to our overpolluted world and truly no-one reacts to cotton (we have heard of a mum who can only use cotton on her son because his allergies are that severe and most baby clothes are made of cotton). That is why our wipes are made of cotton materials because we want you to use them from newborn stage till potty-training rather than small balls of cotton (which may get poo on your hand and takes too many to clean a tiny bum) and I have used our cotton wipes from birth till 18 months, so far less than 10 shredded (we haven't bough disposable wipes since February and the ones before were gifts). I don't believe in the charcoal ones because it is impossible to treat a fabric, constantly wash it and expect it to retain the infused material (I believe the charcoal is used for deodorising but I would like to see data that shows it remains after 20 washes, even hospitals would be using them). Hemp and bamboo are precisely what you think they are , after all, Ewedu is Jute and when you see those strong brown sacks you don't think of your puny Ewedu leaf. Hemp, bamboo and cotton are also used to make paper and are very biodegradeable and prized by scientists everywhere. We have hemp, bamboo and cotton for sale, as well as diaper covers, bags, wipes and liners. Below are pictures of what we have for sale currently and we have even cuter patterns coming in so no need for skirt or pants at home anymore. So feel free to pick some covers and try some inserts to see what you like. I would beg you and Rofemiguwa to get a wetbag, to store dirty diapers till wash-day. Sprinkle some baking soda in it and no smells. That trick works for dustbins and fridges. Please email wambydiapers@gmail.com. Thanks. 1st pic: top to bottom, cotton prefold, hemp insert, bamboo insert. 2nd pic: diaper covers. 3rd pic: a diaper cover with a bamboo insert and a liner. 2 Likes 3 Shares
