My Laptop Is Not Detecting Phones, Help. by Explorers(m): 4:34pm On Dec 08, 2016
Its just 5 months old, the problem started about two weeks ago, ive searched the internet, read a lot, tried suggestions, done the developer's option, debugging, uninstalled&reinstalled usb controllers, connected lots of phones but no way.

When i touch PTP, it will work. Only MTP that's causing issue.

Help!

Thanks

From all you've said it's not from your phone neither is the usb port faulty.

Suspects
1. Usb cable (some only charges phone but can transfer files so try changing cable)
2. Drivers (This rarely happen if you're on windows 8 and above though)
3. Maybe it's already showing but you're just waiting for it to prompt the usual pop up (Just Plug your phone and open file manager, scroll down and check under media cos It won't appear under removable drives)

If all fail then seek professional help. Stuffs like this are easier if the system is present

It either your USB root hub was turned off or your USB legacy drivers are outdated.

Just restore your system or go to your device manager while your phone is plugged in, then locate the phone's driver and update it.

It that does not work, you may have to do an automatic system Update or get an iso to upgrade your windows at startup.

If you are more of a basic user than and operator, then I suggest you see a technician if the former is unable to fix it.

Possible solution.

Connect your phone to your computer.
1. Open start menu and search for device manager
2. Look through the list for "portable devices"... if it is the problem, you should see a yellow caution triangle beside your phone's name.
3. Right-click on the device name and select update driver software.
4. A dialog box shud pop up. Select browse my computer for driver software
5. Another screen shud appear. Here, select let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
6. On the next screen, you should see a possible list of options...look for MTP USB device
7. Select it and click next. It will reinstall and your computer will detect the device.

Hope this helps.
