Opinionated:
There seems to be a recent trend of Lagos residents moving from the Lekki area of Lagos Island to the Ajah area and most people are wondering why this is the case. Yes, Lekki seems to be “prettier” than Ajah and it accommodates a certain kind of residents, but frankly, if you are based in Lekki because you want a better quality of life or you think it’s just a better area to inhabit, well, maybe we can make you reconsider. Jumia Travel shares 5 possible reasons Lagosians are now moving from Lekki to Ajah.

The rent in Ajah is not ridiculous

It is no secret that Lekki is a high brow area and so it accommodates some of the most expensive properties in the state. The rent is extremely high and unless you have a blue-collar job, you will be renting forever and struggling to make ends meet. Ajah, although not as cheap as areas on the mainland, offers various options way cheaper and affordable.

Cost of living is bearable

When it comes to cost of living on the island and peninsula area, Ajah is top because of the area’s relatively low cost of living, including consumer prices, utilities and transport costs and, most importantly, house rent. There is easy access to local markets, and people who live there have a better shot at getting some of the things associated with middle-class life.

Power supply

Lekki may seem fabulous, but they regularly battle with an inadequate power supply issue. Ajah on the other hand has better power supply and so, you are not forced to spend a lot of money on fuel or diesel for less electric bill.

Ajah residents are normal people

Unlike the people who reside in the Lekki area, the Ajah residents are unpretentious and down-to-earth and basically the people are easy to get along with. There is no silent competition among the residents as regards affluence or status. People live their lives normally basically.

Ajah is family-friendly

Because of its good-value housing, Ajah has been particularly popular with families. You have access to reasonable mortgage and pretty good schools. Also, restaurants are invariably family-friendly.

Ajah is also Lekki, not only PHASE 1. Awoyaya, Abijo, and all the strip of land in that axis is Lekki.

For someone working on the mainland (Ojodu-Berger) precisely. Which area is comfortable and less costly to rent a house?
Ojodu Berger of course. You can get very affordable accommodation there. You can even stay in Ogun state : Ibafo, Mowe etc

Magodo is a wonderful place to live. Except you work on the island, you can then stay at Yaba or even Ogudu GRA at Ojota.
Most houses in Lekki are overpriced. And Ajah traffic is...hell. I hate stress tho. I'm enjoying my Ikorodu now especially since theres BRT

how about for someone that works in Lagos Island? which is better? yaba or magodo? I know yaba very well but I not magodo.

Yaba will be better off for someone who works on the island because you'll not go through the 3rd mainland bridge wahala as it could be congested sometimes if not most times.

This OP doesn't even know what he's trying to explain.
From after the Sand-Fill bus stop down to Elerongbe before the bridge near Epe is Lekki, sectioned from Phase 1 Lekki Pennisula to Ibeju Lekki.
This also mean Ajah is inside Lekki!!

@ op, true talk, just relocated from ogba to sangotedo, rent is just a little higher, good thing- no flood in sangotedo unlike ajah, light is fair. Problem is d traffic in lekki.
Am a business man (photography & web design) and my office is in sangotedo also, so i avoid rush hr, morning n evening, even then, u still can't escape d traffic. Hopefully d traffic will ease up when they complete d ajah flyover n d roundabout reconstruction in lekki

Yeah, you're absolutely right. Ajah and Lekki are no-go areas for me. I was staying at Ajah when I got a job on the Mainland. Had to run away from there. Imagine waking up to get to the bus stop by 4:30/5:00 am every morning? Which kain craze be dat? I looked for an apartment on the Mainland. Thanking God everyday that I was not a victim to kidnappers, ritualists, one-chancers et al because man must sleep inside bus two times before you reach Owode embarassed cry. Gone are those days.

I love my Ikorodu to die, not that I can afford to buy or build a properties in Lekki. Any time I'm in Nigeria I just love the atmospheres and the vibes in Ikorodu you see different kind of people around good and bad fat and ugly I mean a diversity people that just make my day.

I am tired of living solitary life in the UK. I know there is a lot of Nigeria that lives in London but I'm afraid I do not fancy London life style.
I don't want to come back to Nigeria and be doing exactly same thing. Have only seen my neighbour maybe once in the last 6 months I don't even know who lives 2 doors away.

hard life sucks, innit!? grin grin grin
