NIGER-CONGO FAMILY

The Niger–Congo languages constitute one of the world's major language families, and Africa's largest in terms of geographical area, number of speakers, and number of distinct languages.[1] They may constitute the world's largest language family in terms of distinct languages, although this question is complicated by ambiguity about what constitutes a distinct language. It is the third largest language family in the world by number of native speakers, behind only the Indo-European languages and Sino-Tibetan languages. A characteristic common to most Niger–Congo languages is the use of a noun class system.[2] The most widely spoken Niger–Congo languages by number of native speakers are Yoruba, Igbo, Fula, Shona and Zulu. The most widely spoken by number of speakers is Swahili.[1]
Different sub families of Niger Congo, BAntu being the largest,

Nairobi and Mombasa have ranked among the top ten most vibrant cities IN THE WORLD in real estate my friend. Do your research well. Muthaiga is more expensive than ANY residential area in Nigeria and Upper Hill is more expensive than ANY commercial area in Nigeria. I can keep giving you sources all day all night. See this one here too...

Lol... Nigeria real estate is still more expensive than yours given the two links you provided...Nigeria is third and fourth while you are behind....

Negroid Race is made up of people from Niger Congo family and people from Nilo-Saharan. Nilotes and Nubians, cant remember the others are a sub group of Nilo Saharan family. Example of Nilotes are the Kalenjin(the Kenyans you see on TV running, we are proud of them btw) of Kenya, The Masai (Probably the most known African tribe in the world)of Kenya, The Luo(Barack Obamas ethnicity, Lupita Nyong'o plus they make up the most of the Kenyan football team) of Kenya, The Nuer and Dinka from South Sudan, Acholi from Uganda, Karamajong and Teso from Uganda. And compared to Bantus these people are on average tall, seen a lot of 6foot South Sudanese women. Oh and Turkana tribe from Kenya, the one who Ben Carson claimed to be from. Heard they are from ancient egypt and migrated southwards following river Nile, hence the name Nilotes. There are other groups I have not mentioned.

grin grin You miss the point, am not jealous about nigeria, your people shows us bad picture of your country on this forum, when you are busy posting good pictures here, am smiling because at the same time, your people are busy posting ugly picture of your country on other side, that is why am talking like that grin The success of your country is the success of SA, At least your people will remain in your country, and your neighbors countries will depend on your country, Now all the people are heading to SA and europe, which isn't good,We wish your country the best, that is true brother, no jealousy at all, Our life is perfect in SA, That is why we aren't jealousy, nothing to lose on our side

Then there Afro Asiatic, the cream part of the map, and the Khoisan. And that is indigenous Africa ladies and gentlemen. People migrate, we all started from Africa thousands of years ago, and if an asian or a white person calls Africa home, it is his home. Human knows no colour
And a more clear map of East African language groups.
Oromo are the largest ethnic group in Ethiopia and want independence and for Oromia country, they are the largest cushitic group, somali are the second largest cushitic group, there are many other smaller ones in east africa. Dont know about other Afro Asiatic groups tbh undecided

The rent in an upscale neighborhood of Nairobi is higher than the ones in an upscale neighbourhood of Lagos. Shebi l follow go house hunting with a Ghanian couple who just moved over. A 4 bedroom masionette is renting $2,140 monthly plus a $200 monthly service charge and sharing compound with 7 other units!

Away from upscale neighbourhoods, a middle class neighborhood one can get a bedsitter (a room and an ensuite kitchen and toilet/shower) for between $90-$100 monthly whereas that can get me a spacious 2 bedroom flat in Anthony Village, Lagos!

That is not even to mention the newly completed and fully bought eko pearl towers with rent STARTING from $10000 per month! You can always verify my claims.

Well, I think I understand the surprise of these Kenyans, and maybe other Africans. "How come Nigeria without 24hrs power supply is still the continents largest economy? What will then happen when they eventually get it right with power?" These and many other questions, they ask. I'd be totally shocked too if I were in their shoes.

Nope - our real surprise is "How come the country with the largest oil deposits on the continent, one of the largest land suitable for Agriculture, one of the largest hyro-power potential and by far the largest human resource can't provide very basic needs for its citizens.

We no even dare go to neighbourhoods like Karen, Runda, Muthaiga etc where rents are $5000 and above. Ask any other Nigerian living in Nairobi going by the present exchange rate which between Lagos and Nairobi where the rent in a good neighborhood is lesser.

If you are paying N800,000 annually for a 3 bedroom flat at Magodo Estate that is equal to 170,000 Kenyan shillings going by today's exchange rate between the Naira and Shillings. That 170,000 Kenyan shillings will cover only 4 months rent of similar neighborhood in Nairobi!

Born and raised in Lagos, work and live in Nairobi....Forget the pictures being posted l know the realities of both cities! grin grin

Thank you my friend.

First of, how did you get the perfect equivalent of Magodo in Nairobi to arrive at this? It will be hard to judge an equivalent knowing that values of an apartment with exact same facilities vary from location to location. That brings me to why you should compare the extremes in both situations, that is, the best of Nairobi and the best of Lagos. And please, you can get an apartment of $3000 in Muthaiga, not 5k as the least cost that you quoted. Like I said earlier, apartments in Eko Atlantic cost 10000 monthly. They were fully bought before it's completion. That makes a big business statement. These things are not rocket science.

There are no apartments in Muthaiga, lol. See how you keep talking about things you don't understand for the sake of it.

Please continue educating our 9ja nairalanders about the peoples that come together to make Kenya. Most of them have fallen into the (western oriented ) maasai bandwagon, whereby the tourist brochures paint a picture of an exotic land with strangely attired natives and nothing more. As a kenyan who has on several occasions been externalized from his country i often fall victim to this stereotype. Maasai are part of kenyan people, but so are kikuyus, taitas, luhyas, kisiis, merus, luos, tharakas, turkanas, kambas...... you know the drill. My personal interactions with nigerians living in kenya has made me realize that alot of them are ignorant of Africa beyond her immediate borders.
Ps. I saw bemba tribe from Zambia there. When i was a undergrad student, my gf was from that tribe. They call ugali nshima and are very warm people. Bachelors alert, go to Zambia for wife, you won't regret. ahem!

Walala, in May last year, power generation fell to an all time low of 1,300MW! , even tiny Kenya is with its imperfect power is laughing...... Yes its true indeed that Kenya is not on Nigeria's level.... No one wishes to be on your level giant of Africa!

Quote:
Then there’s the lack of reliable power which means generators are a must-have. This becomes a quarterly or annual service charge, an additional cost that can be as high as 25% of rent annually. Similar charges in other developed markets can be 10% lower. For some context on the power situation – Nigeria, with a population of 170 million generated an average of ±4,000MW in 2014 and South Africa whose population of over 54 million has a generation capacity of over 45,000MW. What’s worse, power generation in Nigeria fell to an all time low of 1,327MW in May 2015.

Nigeria is the largest producer producer of the following crops in Africa :

Rice

Palm oil

Groundnut

Millet

Sorghum

Casava

Yam

Maize

Tomatoes

Chili pepper

Soybeans

Ginger

Okra

Pineapple

Sweet Potatoes

Pawpaw (papaya)

Peanut

Sheanut

Bitter kola

Kola nut

Cashew

Etc

Nigeria is 1 of the top producers of rubber, beans, cocoa, Irish potatoes, plantain, banana, onions, etc

The major food items we import are wheat, rice, sugar and palm oil. Nigeria is still the third largest producer of Palm oil in the world and the largest producer of rice in Africa.

Some people would say they don't know why our economy is so big. Producing food for 180,000,000 people is not a small thing. Agriculture contribute about 40% to the Nigerian economy, oil contribute less than 20%, telecommunications contribute about 7%, manufactured sector contribute 5%, financial sector contribute 3% entertainment sector 1%, etc.

Nigeria can achieve this much without electricity but those with electricity can't even boast of half the success Nigerians have recorded. They come here asking why we are so great while looking at just our flaws.

Keep it up.
