I have sent several email complaints to the Consumer Protection Council (CPC) and the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) about the fraud being committed by the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC). The IKEDC is the greatest thief in this administration. IKEDC refuses to give prepaid metres to consumers only just about 10% of consumers have the pre-paid metres, instead, IKEDC tells consumers that their old post-paid metres are bad. Then, IKEDC gives consumers estimated bills. IKEDC give 3 bedroom consumers between 7,000 and 10,000 naira monthly bill for about 100 hours of electricity per month while the few pre=paid metre consumers use just about 500 naira electricity for the same period. But, you know what? The NERC will never do anything because the looters that are the current owners of IKEDC are the very looters that ruined NEPA and PHCN. These looters keep on bribing NERC, CPC and Ministry of Power corrupt officials to ignore the atrocities being committed by the fraudulent IKEDC everyday. Very soon, I mean very very soon, the poor will hav e nothing else to eat but the flesh of the corrupt rich. |

banki:Blaming the militant wouldn't resolve the issue. The power system should be decentralized such that each state should generate it's own power instead of depending on national grid. Until we do that we might not move forward. Secondly because the cabals selling generating sets are indirectly involved in each regime,it would be difficult to have constant power supply in Nigeria. That's reason fighting corruption in Nigeria is difficult because this government is surrounded by corrupt politicians that will do all possible means to thwart PMB's effort |

MadamExcellency: The blame should be laid at the feet of all the 3 groups. To have 24x7 power, Nigeria needs at least 40,000MW of power, but it is currently producing less than 4,500MW. The transmission network is in an abysmal state, and so more than a quarter of the power produced gets lost and cannot be transmitted effectively to points of need. The Gencos have hidden their shortcomings by pointing fingers at TCN for its failure to upgrade the transmission network. Today they will blame the transmission network. Tomorrow, they will blame the shortage of gas supplies due to disruptions in the system. The Discos on the other hand have proven their cluelessness repeatedly, by not being able to monitor the distribution of power effectively and their inability to collect revenue from all end-users properly, due to their faulty billing system that has driven a wedge between themselves and their customers. Nigeria's power problems need to be laid squarely at the feet of all the players, including the FG. |
