Theo Walcott hails Alex Iwobi after Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Stoke Theo Walcott singled out Alex Iwobi for special praise after Arsenal's 3-1 win over Stoke City at the weekend Theo Walcott heaped praise on Alex Iwobi for his goal which put the game to bed in Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Stoke City on Saturday. Iwobi found the net for the second game running after his strike against Basel in the Champions League last week as Arsene Wenger’s men temporarily moved to the top of the Premier League table with their win over the Potters. Walcott had levelled for Arsenal after the Gunners fell behind to Charlie Adam’s penalty at The Emirates. Mesut Ozil had then given the north London side the lead after half-time with a header, before Iwobi added a third and secured the three points for Arsene Wenger’s men. And Walcott was full of praise for Iwobi and also Alexis Sanchez for his contribution to the goal. Isaac Success only has half an hour in him, says Mazzarri by Kevin Affleck on December 12, 2016 Walter Mazzarri played his cards very close to his chest this afternoon when discussing the fitness of his squad but did reveal that Isaac Success will have to be content again with a place on the Watford bench. Success missed six games and seven weeks of action with a combination of a dead leg and a hamstring injury and, given this is his second injury of the season, has very much been eased back into action and wrapped in cotton wool. He has made the squad for the last two games but stayed unused on the bench despite Watford being behind at West Brom and home and hosed against Everton at 3-1 up. Picture by Franziska Empl “He’s recovered now,” said Mazzarri. “He’s available 100 per cent for the team but he has got around 20-30 mins in his legs. He won’t start because then we have to make one change already. If he plays, he comes on from the bench.” The make up of the XI will depend on how, and if, the likes of Younes Kaboul and Valon Behrami come through training tomorrow. Picture by Franziska Empl “Kaboul has been training with the team,” said Mazzarri, who had hoped the big defender would be available against Everton. “We need to verify his condition and see how many minutes are in his legs. Behrami didn’t train yesterday. He’s still recovering. He was very tired after the game. We will evaluate if he is able to start or come on from the bench.” Quique Sanchez Flores played without a striker at Manchester City last time, asking Odion Ighalo and Troy Deeney to flank a packed midfield. Deeney even ended up at right-back at one stage. Mazzarri has not taken a backward step this season and you won’t find him parking the bus at the Etihad stadium. He watched City’s game against Leicester and you suspect he knows what he wants to do. He’s just waiting to see who he has available first. “After such an intense game, as it was against Everton, where the team has spent a lot physically and mentally, it’s still very early to decide on the formation,” he said. “I still need tomorrow. I need to understand the condition of the players who have played the game. We usually check on them the day before the game. Some of the players trained individually, some trained with the team. We will see tomorrow or even the day of the game.” Craig Cathcart returned to training this week but he’s being pencilled in to return against Crystal Palace or Tottenham. Leicester close in on £15m deal for Genk midfielder Wilfred Ndidi after Nigerian undergoes medical By Simon Jones for MailOnline Leicester agreed the £15million fee for Wilfred Ndidi back in November »Ndidi is to sign a five year contract in January once he gets a work permit. »The 19-year-old has scored two goals in 23 games for Genk this season. Leicester have taken a step closer to finalising the £15million transfer of Wilfred Ndidi from Genk after he underwent a medical on Monday. The clubs agreed the fee last month and the 19-year-old is to sign a five year contract in January once he gets clearance for a work permit. Ndidi is an athletic, defensive midfielder renowned for his stamina. Genk's Wilfred Ndidi (centre) during the The Nigeria international has scored two goals in 23 games for Genk this season. Leicester face Bournemouth on Tuesday with Claudio Ranieri offering no guarantees of an instant return for midfielder Danny Drinkwater, who has completed a three-match ban. Anybody had a look at Tega Abrahams Chelsea on loan player with Bristol City in the Championship, who has scored 13 goals in the championship so far. The right back position has been a topic for discussion with the Eagles I really think Ola Aina (Chelsea) is an interesting prospect for that position. There may be questions about the amount of game time he has had. It brings to my memory Danny Shittu who had almost zero game time at Bolton but outside of Yobo within that era was Nigeria best central defender. I remember the Ghana game he was excellent. Indeed was once voted best defender in the championship. |

TheSuperNerd:This is my problem with ex internationals, they always like to distract d team with unnecessary suggestions. We have not fully come out of Oliseh and Enyeama tussled coz active Enyeama has retired from eagles. So what hell again about vice captain,is Rohr complaining about Musa attitudes or what,Babayaro should remembered that captain band was taken from Musa to Mikel and again vice captain from him!No mba Truly,Leon may have d charisma but not now coz is new in d team and should learn from Mikel coz d guy has been wonderful as a captain. To be a captain is not just to lead on d field alone but outside d field which Mikel has been doing wonderfully.I don't think Nff can dare it owing eagles two match allowance in d era of Keshi,Olishe,Kanu,Okocha,Yobo even Enyeama as captain, this is a plus for Mikel. Quite agreed Leon against Algeria showed leadership quality but d politicking of d game in Nigeria is different from western world where d guy was brought up,no issue of unpaid allowance or traveling issue.Pls can Leon as a captain withstand what happened to U 23 in RIO. Also Musa has d vice captain ve been supportive and d spirit in d camp is always high, let d boys enjoy themselves,no need to go back to Olishe era of discontent. 1 Like |

hi interesting question well before i give you my own opinion let me say i'm a big fan of kanu the person for the inspirational way he overcame his heart condition problem and his philanthropy. now on kanu the footballer like your friend i think he was over-rated and i will give reasons why. first of as a striker his goal return for the super eagles was poor to say the least. 12 goals in 87 matches is pathetic reading. scoring against the likes of sudan, liberia, uzbekistan, eritrea etc. in international tournaments you will weep. 6 AFCONS plus 3 world cups not even a single goal in sight not even a half goal. now you will say but he won olympic soccer gold. yes he did and i commend him for that but i hope we all know that the olympics football competition is an underage tournament which no serious football nation will continue to boast in as a major achievement. samuel etoo also won an olympic medal but went on to shine and score for cameroon in AFCONS and world cups. kanu on the other hand when he went for senior international tournament was no where to be found. you might also argue that he won african footballer of the year na! but the question to ask is what did he do in those years to merit the awards. for the 1996 one i guess you can say the euphoria of the olympic win that gave it to him because it was definitely not his club form where he scored 13 goals in 39 appearances. the second one he won in 2000 what did he do? did he win a trophy with nigeria? NO. did he win a trophy with arsenal? NO. was he their top scorer? NO. so i'm forced to conclude that the times he won were based on mostly sentiments. you may ask how but it's not so much of a stretch if players like adebayor, mustapha hadji, el haji diouf etc who no one will say are african greats can win it then kanu's isn't suprising. now to his club career he had good fortune to play for great clubs. when ajax won the champions league in 95 he was a bit part player scoring only one goal. plus the dutch league in the early to mid 90s was a one team league where ajax by default always before kanu and after kanu. in inter kanu was affected by the heart issue so let's ignore that one. with arsenal he started well but when he was a starter in the first eleven they didn't win anything when he dropped to the bench for bergkamp they started winning leagues and fa cups. in west brom they got relegated. portmouth too thank God he won fa cup beating cardiff city. even wigan won fa cup beating man city. kanu is a terrific guy and a great ambassador but kanu the footballer is no where near nigerian football legends. wow,if we want to dig up stats then we may have our so called legends down to mediocres. Like Aghahowa who was on the lips of every street way back then, only 14 goals? The difference is that these guys played with unrivalled passion. If these xuree t squad just take the passion to another level with their better tactical advantage of current times,...... lemme stop. Besides there is some politics on this goal scorer list. Give obagoal 5 games and he will be num 2 on all time. |

EAGLES WATCH – Red Hot Nwakaeme Continues Scoring Streak In Isreal, Ajayi, Ideye, Fire Blank, Emenike Benched Super Eagles hopeful Anthony Nwakaeme continued his fine form in front of goal for Israeli side Hapoel Beer Sheva, by scoring his 9th league goal but 12 for the season in all competition in their 3-1 win over Beitar Jerusalem. While Nwakaeme is making a strong case for his consideration by coach of the Super Eagles, Fenerbahce forward Emmanuel Emenike who was earlied rumoured to be on the wishlist of Rohr appears to have lost his early season spark. He is now the third choice strike behind Moussa Sow and Robin Van Persie, but even in the absence of Van Persie he was an unused substitute as Antalyaspor defeated Fenerbahce 1-0. Junior Ajayi who has been in fine goal scoring form for Al-Ahly of Egypt has also failed to find the back of the net in their last two games, as he once again fired blank in their 0-0 draw with ENPPI. Just like Ajayi, Super Eagles forward Brown Ideye has also gone two games without a goal, a shocking statistic going by his fine scoring form for Olympiakos of Greece. Ideye was on for over an hour but failed to get on the score sheet in their 2-0 win away to PAS Giannina, while in Cyprus Shehu Abdullahi suffered a 2-1 loss with Anorthosis against Apoel Nicosia. owngoalnigeria.com/2016/12/12/eagles-watch-red-hot-nwakaeme-continues-scoring-streak-in-isreal-ajayi-ideye-fire-blank-emenike-benched/ 1 Like |

Nigerian Academies Have Quality Players Than League Teams – Agent The constant influx of talented Nigerian teen players to Europe from grassroot teams and academies as against players in the various level of Nigerian Leagues have always been a hot topic. While stars from the Nigerian League notably the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) head to second tier European football league or North Africa, players from local academies have moved to top leagues within same period. An agent who has been involved in the transfer of several Nigerian players to Europe reckons, players from academies in Nigeria are mostly far talented, level headed and committed than players from the league. ”I will give you a straight forward answer, Nigeria League players are above all scared of going on trials to top clubs in Europe. They prefer a deal with any team abroad as long as the pay is higher than what they are earning in Nigeria”, Mark Williams told Owngoalnigeria.com. ”Players from Academies in Nigeria are quick to jump at trial opportunities. It has helped them make their mark in top European teams and league, beside due to their age teams believe they can still improve. ”Aside that they have more quality than players in the league. It hurts to say so but the facts don’t lie. They are more enterprising, not scared of taking risks and above all very dedicated”. owngoalnigeria.com/2016/12/12/nigerian-academies-have-quality-players-than-league-teams-agent/ 2 Likes |

We Won't Impose Players On Rohr - NFF By Augustine Akhilomen A top source in the Nigeria Football Federationhas said that they will never impose any player on Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr in his quest to qualify the team for the 2018 World Cup. The three-time African champs are top of group B with six points after beating Zambia 2-1 in Ndola and Algeria 3-1 in Uyo, to maintain a perfect winning start in their World Cup qualifying campaign. They will play Cameroon on August 28, 2017 in Uyo in what could be a defining moment for the senior national team, most especially if they get the maximum point that will earn them nine points. Despite claims in some media that the NFF are working out plans to interfere on Rohr's players selection, the source told Soccernet.com.ng that the federation have given the German tactician the liberty to select players of his choice without any form of interference. "It's surprising to hear that the Nigeria Football Federation wants to enforce players on Gernot Rohr because we have never thought of such plans. Like you know, people are meant to express their thought on any matters just to arouse reader's interest," the source told Soccernet.com.ng. "We are in good working relationship with Rohr and his technical crew and I see no reason why we must impose players on a coach that has taken the nation's football to another level. Besides, he (Rohr) has every freedom to invite players that will be useful for the team's World Cup qualification campaign," he said. www.soccernet.com.ng/2016/12/we-wont-impose-players-on-rohr-nff.html 1 Like |

Newcastle United Loanee Sammy Amoebi Scores Screamer For Bolton Wanderers Newcastle United loanee Sammy Amoebi scored a spectacular fourth goal for Bolton Wanderers as they romp to a 4-0 win over Gillingham in an English League one game. He now has three goals for Bolton in all competitions and for the first time since joining the Trotters, he has found the back of the net in consecutive games. Amoebi picked the ball from the edge of the box, from his position on the right side of Bolton’s attack and lashed in an unstoppable drive which nestled in the Gillingham net to complete the 4-0 rout. Inconsistency, injuries and poor form has been his bane since his debut six years ago for Newcastle United but he appears to have sort that issue out, with consistent run of games for League one side Bolton Wanderers. The 24 year old has made 18 appearances in all competition this season as he hopes to force his way into the plans of manager of Newcastle United Rafa Benitez at the club where he turned professional in 2010. owngoalnigeria.com/2016/12/13/newcastle-united-loanee-sammy-amoebi-scores-screamer-for-bolton-wanderers/ 1 Like |

Genk Open To Possible Sale Of William Troost-Ekong In January, But Loan Looks Likely According to reports gathered by Owngoalnigeria.com Belgian side Gent won’t stand in the way of William Troost Ekong, if a bid comes in for his services in January. The Belgian side are open to letting him leave permanently but only at the right price, which makes another loan deal the most likely option for the 23 year old Nigerian centre back. Ekong spent last season on loan to Norwegian side FK Haugesund, where his fine performances earned him a spot in the team of the year in Norway, aside several man of the match award. He has also succeeded in transferring his club form to the Nigeria national team, where he has formed a formidable partnership with Leon Balogun in the heart of Nigerian defence. However there are doubts if he will be able to break into the what looked like a settled defence for Gent, with their three man defence set up making his case more dicey. owngoalnigeria.com/2016/12/13/10087/ 1 Like |
