REVEALED – Man United Matched Leicester City £15 Million for Ndidi But Lost Out As Mourinho Wanted Him To….

Owngoalnigeria.com understands that Manchester United were willing to pay Belgian side Genk same amount of money Leicester City offered for the Nigerian, who had his medicals with the English Champions yesterday.

Although Leicester City have been favourite to sign him for some time now, Manchester United came into the picture last month, when one of their scout Roland Janssen proposed him to manager Jose Mourinho.

Janssen is same scout who brought the Nigerian to Belgium after watching him play in a tournament in Lagos during the 2014-2015 season, and still has close ties with the 19 year old.

The scout who now works for Manchester United pushed the club to equal what Leicester City agreed to pay for him but Mourinho wanted the defender cum midfielder to spend the rest of the season on loan in Belgium.

Mourinho plan was to watch him at close quarters during next pre season as he can’t guarantee him a spot in the midfield or defence of Manchester United this season, The suggestion made Ndidi turned down their approach and opt for Leicester City instead.

Ndidi will now join Leicester City on the 1st of January, when the transfer window reopens for registration of new players in Europe, to bring to three the number of Nigerian players to three at the club.

Super Eagles vice captain Ahmed Musa and upcoming forward Layton Ndukwu are the other Nigerians at the club.

Torino Set To Release Injury Prone Joel Obi In January, Eye AC Milan Poli As Replacement

Reports from Italy suggest that Torino are willing to cut loose Nigerian midfielder Joel Obi no thanks to the persistent injury issues that has bedeviled his career since he turn professional.

Reports has it that AC Milan Andrea Poli has already been approached as a possible replacement for Obi, who is expected to leave the Turin outfit in January.

Injuries and fitness issues were part of the reason why he was cut loose by Inter-Milan in the summer of 2015 on a permanent base after making just 11 appearances in two seasons.

He spent a total of five seasons at Inter-Milan but only managed to make 50 league appearances, with 27 the highest he made in a single season, which was the 2011/2012 season when he stayed fit for a sustained period.

Last season he made 10 appearances for Torino and scored once, before succumbing to injury.

This season he has already made 11 appearances, one more than his last season overall tally with less than half of the season game played.

He is presently injured for the second time this season, and he is not expected back until most likely next year.

FC Porto Loanee Mikel Agu Makes Team Of The Week In Portugal

On loan FC Porto Nigerian midfielder Mikel Agu has been named in the team of the week in Portugal after his fine performances for Vitoria Setubal over the weekend.

Agu was at his best for Vitoria Setubal in their 2-0 win over Estoril in the round of 13 games in the Portuguese Primeira Liga, the 23 year old won possession for his team with ease, and made good use of the ball.

He has so far made 10 appearances for the team, his highest number of appearances in a top flight league since making his debut for FC Porto in 2014.

Last season he battled injuries and poor form while on loan to Belgian side Club Brugge, making just two appearances as the former team of ex Super Eagles captain and coach Daniel Amokachi emerged champions.

His future at FC Porto was secured before his latest loan spell, after penning an extension to his contract that was supposed to expire next summer.

TURKISH CUP – Musa Muhammed Gets More Game Time, Otigba Suffers Heavy Defeat To Obaboana’s Club

Three Nigerian players were in action for the Turkish Cup for their respective teams, and came out with mixed tales after the conclusion of the games.

Super Eagles deputy right full back Musa Muhammed was handed another game by coach Abdullah Avci had the Nigerian on as a substitute for Cheikhou Dieng after 79 minute of play, as Istanbul Basaksehir ran out 2-0 winners over Sivasspor.

It is the second time the 20 year old will be playing in the Cup this season for the high flying Turkish side, but he is still waiting for his first league appearance after 18 months at the club.

Meanwhile Godfrey Obaboana who missed Rizespor last two games was reinstated back into the team, and distinguished himself as his side ran out 6-1 winner over Kasimpasa with Kenneth Otigba marking his comeback.

Versatile Nigerian Midfielder Edun Scores Wonder Goal For Fulham Vs Brighton

Fulham secured a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Brighton and Hove Albion on game week 12 in Premier League 2 on Monday night at Motspur Park (New Malden, Surrey).

England U19 international Adetayo Edun struck in the 43rd minute to give the Cottagers a 2-0 lead heading into the interval.

It was an excellent individual goal by the midfielder, he started the break and slotted home from a tight angle after running the pitch.

Whilst Edun played the full game, his teammates at the London club Elijah Adebayo and Dennis Adeniran were not called upon by coach Peter Grant.

Fulham, who sit third on the table, are guests to Aston Villa in their next fixture.

we don't want Guardiola's crumbs

Remember when we had the FC Porto/Manchester City debate. Where was the best destination for a Young Iheanacho.

Many opted for FC Porto but I sighted that Pellegrini was a good person for Nacho to work under.

He was not going to start regularly but the Facilities, equipments, coaches and head coach will help the youngster grow. Still see the youngster developing under Guardiola.

Guardiola already stated that the youngsters will play a bigger role next season. Let us give Pep time with the young genius and see what he does.

Battling with Gabriel will help Nacho grow. They are part of the golden players of their generation.

Wolfsburg Dismiss Sporting Director Who Approved Signing Of Victor Osimhen

Bundesliga club Wolfsburg have parted company with their managing director of sport and communications Klaus Allofs following a poor run of results.

After 14 matches in the German top-flight, The Wolves occupy the 15th position and have lost eight games, including last weekend’s 5-0 loss to champions Bayern Munich.

The chairman of the club Francisco Javier Garcia Sanz stated that the decision was made after in-depth analysis conducted over the past few weeks and interview with Allofs.

A retired Germany international, Allofs recommended the signing of Nigeria U23 international Victor Osimhen in January 2016.

He joined Wolfsburg from Werder Bremen in 2012.

Can Brian Idowu really solve Nigeria’s defensive problems?

www.nairaland.com/attachments/4607859_id_jpege13e3b13f2086fa42adf4de6d36fc534
The Amkar Perm defender has received rave reviews to date, but can he be a solution for the Super Eagles?

Brian Idowu has been welcoming plaudits aplenty after his superb performances for Amkar Permthis season, prompting talk of a Nigeria call-up.

But just who is Brian Idowu, and could he be the man to boost the Super Eagles’ backline?

Born in Saint Petersburg to a Nigerian father and a Russian-Nigerian mother, Idowu could be forgiven for having multiple allegiances.

The player has spent the majority of his life in Russia, coming through the youth ranks of Zenit St. Petersburg but ultimately failing to make a first-team appearance for the Blue-White-Sky Blues.
www.nairaland.com/attachments/4607860_id1_jpeg4ac14d7c68c2ec90af065c84d7752957
In 2010, he eventually departed the club on a free transfer and under a cloud of controversy, claiming his path to the first team was blocked due to the colour of his skin.

Although he left the domestic giants acrimoniously, he still dreams of a return to his boyhood club before he eventually hangs up his boots.

He subsequently joined Amkar in 2010 after his release from Zenit, but his career stagnated for a few years—with spells with Amkar II and loan spell with Dynamo St. Petersburg—before the resurgence in the Russian Premier League last year.

His rise to prominence has sparked rumours of an imminent call-up for Idowu to the Super Eagles, and that possibility has been mooted by Goal’s Lolade Adewuyi, among others.

There are several reasons why the 24-year-old stands out against some of the other promising defenders under consideration by Gernot Rohr.

For starters, his ability to play in multiple positions has proved to be a major asset.

Primarily a left-back, he’s equally adept at filling in on the right, in the centre and at the base of the midfield.

In his 16 appearances so far this season, he’s featured nine times on the left, three times at right-back, twice in defensive midfield and a sole appearance was made in the centre of the defence—it’s testament to his versatility, and makes him a potentially valuable asset for Rohr.

With tactics and systems dominating the modern game, being able to turn out in a variety of positions offers more flexibility—a manager’s dream—and Idowu certainly fits the bill of Mr. Versatile.

He’s an individual with high energy levels, and has received praise for maintaining those levels of natural fitness.

He possesses high levels of endurance which allow him to cover a lot of ground over the course of a game, and his work rate and stamina levels are building blocks for his indefatigable performances that endear him to fans.

He also offers consistency, and isn’t one to be criticized for lacking commitment.
www.nairaland.com/attachments/4607873_id4_jpegc43b26f25d4fd34b8735c6bfcf66734c
The player also has strong interception and tackling ability, and is described as measured in his tackling where he avoids diving into tackles, as previously noted by Goal.

Idowu’s professionalism has also received much acclaim, and his drive and determination can never be questioned. He possesses the right attitude and is rarely in the spotlight for the wrong reasons, with the unfortunate circumstances of his exit from Zenit the one exception.

The aforementioned strengths may paint a picture of the archetypal defender who could rival the best of the lot, but it should be noted that there are glaring weaknesses in the defender’s game as well.

He has an unfortunate knack for being sloppy in his defensive duties and disrupting the defensive organisation of his side.

This isn’t helped by frequent lapses in concentration, which allow opposing players to roam free on his watch. He also needs work on his aerial game, where he can be beaten by bigger and stronger forwards.

www.nairaland.com/attachments/4607874_id5_jpeg76e57c94fb11a2c645a2c3d41712fe39
Idowu may possess high endurance levels and an exceptional work rate, but he isn’t the quickest of full-backs and that undermines a supposed strength. His inability to be quick off the mark and over a distance occasionally sees him struggle in defensive situations with flying wingers leaving him in their wake time and again.

Idowu isn’t also the most comfortable on the ball and this weakness only reduces his team options in possession, as he sometimes resorts to ‘hoofing the ball’ without considering the time and space he has to make effective passes to a better positioned teammate.

Going forward, the quality of his deliveries leaves much to be desired and he hardly ever finds his man with his crosses, which only frustrates his teammates. While Idowu can do a job at full-back, he’s unlikely to be the next in line of the long, fine traditional of excellent Nigerian defensive wide men.

With the defensive anomalies plaguing the Super Eagles defence in recent displays against Zambia and Algeria, rumours have been doing the rounds that Rohr has earmarked the Russian-born defender as a potential solution to the current defensive malaise.

While there tends to be the bandwagon effect of wanting new faces in the national side, things need to be put in perspective.

It should be noted that the aforementioned weaknesses of the player aren’t too dissimilar from the issues with the current defenders in the side, and while some may argue that Idowu might not be an upgrade on current options, he’s unlikely to be found wanting.

Poor concentration across the backline and an inability of the full-backs to keep pace with fleet-footed wingers has threatened to undermine Nigeria’s World Cup qualifying campaign, and those weaknesses are part and parcel of Idowu’s game as well.

Will he really be a significant upgrade on the current players in the backline—and most especially at left back?

Surely, he has to improve on his weaknesses and polish his overall game if he's to have a realistic chance of displacing the current options in the side.

The current problems in defence will worry Rohr, which may cause a few sleepless nights, but if he’s hoping for a one-size-fits-all solution, Idowu may not

Nacho needs to work twice as hard because the hustle is real.

He scored 12 goals, it's not like he won the golden boot by being a goal machine.

Either the Brasilian league is lacking quality or their defenders are world class. How can the best player/top scorer only have 12 goals. Iheanacho doesn't need hard work he needs confidence and he should also stop listening to the hype of Gabriel who could only score 12 goals as a starter, it just annoys me that a boy who has already proved himself is being unsettled by someone who hasn't kicked a ball in Europe.

The same way Neymar Unsettled Pedro? Pep already stated Jesus will play as an Inverted Winger. If Iheanacho Can't deal with competition then he wouldn't survive long at another Top Club. 12 goals for someone who started as a winger before he was made a striker is a good return. I don't see Nacho place under threat tho.

I did not say Iheanacho is unsettled. I said, I am scared for Nacho. It has to do with my feelings and the hype following Gabriel.

Gabriel's League performances attracted City. Playing down the Brazilian league is distorting facts. The Brazilian league produce quality players. Gabriel Jesus got to the Olympics from his League form. He was part of the winning team. He joined the Brazilian national team and he is one of their top players. If it takes place every four years, it defeats the club world cup agenda. Which is the yearly tourney.
Well, that's the whole point of the proposed change. FIFA believes that the current format isn't a big commercial success.

Anyway, a 16-team knockout tournament sounds more plausible. The two finalists will only have to play 4 matches each.

"I have offers to join Fernerbahce, RB Leipzig, CDKA Moscow and Hoffeinheim in January, but for now I just want to focus on my performance for Eupen and after the season I will move,"

Henry Onyekuru

(via Africanfootball.com)

Is this a smart move?

I think joining Hoffeinheim or RB Leipzig would have been good for him... Hopefully, he stays fit because that is critical for a summer move.

U are distorting my facts. To me Gabriel is a good talent, i have nothing against him but the Brasilian league is clearly lacking quality players. For the top scorer in a 38 game season to only have 12 goals is an indictment in on it's own. I feel Iheanacho is being unsettled becos it is everywhere that he will lose his spot to Gabriel, that can tend to play on the mind.

You have a strong point. However, Gabriel Jesus was not the top scorer. Three guys scored 14. A player scored 13 and four players including Gabriel scored 12.

Nigerian Academies Have Quality Players Than League Teams – Agent

The constant influx of talented Nigerian teen players to Europe from grassroot teams and academies as against players in the various level of Nigerian Leagues have always been a hot topic.

While stars from the Nigerian League notably the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) head to second tier European football league or North Africa, players from local academies have moved to top leagues within same period.

An agent who has been involved in the transfer of several Nigerian players to Europe reckons, players from academies in Nigeria are mostly far talented, level headed and committed than players from the league.

”I will give you a straight forward answer, Nigeria League players are above all scared of going on trials to top clubs in Europe. They prefer a deal with any team abroad as long as the pay is higher than what they are earning in Nigeria”, Mark Williams told Owngoalnigeria.com.

”Players from Academies in Nigeria are quick to jump at trial opportunities. It has helped them make their mark in top European teams and league, beside due to their age teams believe they can still improve.

”Aside that they have more quality than players in the league. It hurts to say so but the facts don’t lie. They are more enterprising, not scared of taking risks and above all very dedicated”.

I agree with you whole heartedly with regard to commitment, dedication, discipline and even to large extent personal technique.

However, the reality is that age cheating is totally rife. This is not unique to Nigeria but across Africa and parts of Latin America.

Please and let's not pretend, this is reflected in the unsustainable long-term performance of a lot of our promising stars. I will not give names we all know this.

Football is primarily about opportunity, getting the opportunity can be problematic in the first instance.

However, things are changing I can talk authoritatively about Man U, Man City and Liverpool where kid are starting at age 4, and emphasis on individual skill and technique.

There are discrepancies in this, I remember in 2013 when John Fashanu brought the Nigeria U18 all stars team to Manchester. They were supposed to play Man U and Man U but got beat by an independent academy 8-0 of which some boys were U16.

I have said this before there is a huge talent of promising footballers of Nigerian origin. Who may not be given a chance on account of football politics.

I remember a time when Fulham youth team was called the Nigerians they were that many in the team.

LEICESTER-BOUND NDIDI DISMISSES N'GOLO
KANTE COMPARISONS

Ndidi

Leicester City-bound Wilfred Ndidi has dismissed comparisons with Chelsea star N’Golo Kante, insisting both players are different.
Premier League champions Leicester are believed to be struggling this season after they let go Kante to Chelsea and so the need to replace the work horse midfielder with a similar player in Ndidi.

However, Nigeria star Ndidi has maintained he is a different player from the France star.

“I don’t have to be Kante. Kante is Kante. We are different players,” he said.

“I have my own style of play and I don’t want to be under pressure to be another player.

“I just have to go there (Leicester City)and play
my own game.”

Genk star Ndidi also revealed he is now more
comfortable playing in midfield as a destroyer.

“I am more comfortable in the midfield. I am now more used to playing there than in other
positions,” said the player, who started out as a
central defender and has also played at right and left back positions.

The 19-year-old Ndidi is expected to complete a
big-money move to Leicester in January pending
the issuance of a work permit in the UK.

WILFRED NDIDI OPENS UP ON LEICESTER CITY MOVE - 'IT'S TIME TO TAKE THE NEXT
STEP'

Ndidi (middle) when he signed for Genk in
January 2015

Nigeria star Wilfred Ndidi has virtually confirmed his big-money move to Premier League champions Leicester City after saying it was time he took the next step in his promising career.

Media reports have suggested the defensive
midfielder has undergone a routine medical in line with completing a transfer to Leicester in January.

“It’s time to take time to take the next step,”
Ndidi said in a television interview today.

“I need to make improvements, it will be a
challenge.

“Let’s wait till January and see what happens.”
Ndidi has been a massive bargain buy for Belgian club Genk in two short years.

He was bought from Nigerian club Nath Boys of
Lagos for about 80,000 pounds as a central
defender in 2015 and early next year, he is
headed to Leicester for a fee that could go up to
18.6 million pounds with add-ons as a top-class
defensive midfielder.

However, the transfer will depend on him being
granted a work permit in the UK.
