68816419: The reason i brand some Nigerians among the continents idiots in terms of intellectual capacity is mainly because of comments such as this.... How or why is it bad/not good to use roads constructed by "our chinese masters" paid by the Kenyan taxpayers to build, maintain and ensure that Kenyan taxpayers get the best quality of what is paid for. Its a suprise since the biggest importers and consumers of China made merchandise in Africa are Nigerians yet you are here egoistically puking verbose that makes least sense. For me i would love it if the Chinese would also venture into the Kenyan real estate and more public infrastructure since the consumers who are Kenyan citizenry will benefit from the efficiency of massive Chinese foreign direct investment portfolio. 5 Likes |

mkenya254: Who told you KFC is the biggest in Lagos? E bi like say you dey lie. Chicken Republic (branches in Ghana), Tantalizers, Tasty Fried chicken, Sweet sensation, Mr Bigs, Kilimanjaro, Mama_Cass ( with branches in UK), Club Quilox (most expensive club with restaurant in Lagos), Yellow Chilli, Bogobiri House, Café nero etc are the most popular brands in Lagos and they are all owned by Nigerians. Shoprite is very popular in Lagos but you should also know that Jumia and Konga are also very well known brands in Nigeria. Nigerians do a lot of e-commerce. Is e-commerce popular in Kenya? Apart from that, do you think Shoprite, Hugo Boss, KFC etc are the movers and shakers of Lagos economy? Are they the biggest brands in Lagos? You must be joking. http://www.financialnigeria.com/taking-a-bigger-bite-out-of-the-nigerian-qsr-industry-blog-17.html 2 Likes |

shizzy7: No, The South African company only bought shares. You are right, but they are still trying. Chicken Republic’s Parent Company Partners South African FMCG For Better Services food concepts Food Concepts Plc, a market leader in the West African food industry with top brands including Chicken Republic, Butterfield Bakery and Free Range Farms, has announced a partnership in its Baked Good Division, with Pioneer Foods; a leading South African Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) company. Speaking on the partnership, Phil Roux, CEO Pioneer Foods said; “Butterfield provides an ideal opportunity to leverage our expertise to grow the bread category. Pioneer aims to be a leading FMCG company in Africa and Nigeria is a key market for any food company in search of growth,” Chairman of Food Concepts Plc, Deji Akinyanju, said the partnership will benefit from the combination of the respective strengths which will be used to tap into the vast opportunities in the Nigerian FMCG sector to deliver extraordinary value to customers Food Concepts was founded by Akinyanju, an entrepreneur, in 2001. The company, whose shareholders include International Finance Corporation (IFC), a World Bank member, and Development Partners International (DPI), a UK based private equity firm focused on African investments, continues to evolve in a remarkable story of a revolution in the Nigerian food sector. The company recently demerged its Baked Goods Division into Food Concepts Pioneer Limited (FCPL). Pioneer Foods acquired 50.01% of FCPL while Food Concepts Plc retains 49.9%. FCPL will house Butterfield Bakeries, a baked goods business specializing in bread and sausage roll production. This will allow Pioneer Foods to leverage existing infrastructure and brand recognition — both crucial elements of consumer packaged-goods companies. Pioneer Foods will implement several operational changes to the Butterfield bakery to increase its efficiency and consistency. Pionner Foods PTY Ltd is a leading South African FMCG company with a market cap of $3bn, it has globally trusted brands like Ceres Juice, ProNutro, Weet-Bix breakfast cereal etc. Pioneer already has a significant export footprint in a number of African countries, and the conclusion of this partnership with Food Concepts Plc creates an in-market presence for Pioneer Foods in Nigeria. http://bizwatchnigeria.ng/chicken-republics-parent-company-partners-south-african-fmcg-for-better-services/ |

when someone has been defeated or his ego has been deflated they resort to insults and name calling to ease the pain of facts deep down they know the truth that will set them free towards a progressive society like Kenya that recognizes its problems and works to solve them but they have a delusional ego attitude that only hurts them, where they push all the flaws under the carpet, and live in denial ,a perfect utopia that exists in their minds, but the rest of the world sees , the rest of the African continent that they insult knows ,that its a nation that has a very narrow economic base, among the least diverse economies in the continent ,their economy is not proportional to their population compared to other African nations, they import almost everything even their own oil is refined abroad, a slump in prices sends the entire thing into recession, their retail, telecoms, mining even their newest cities is owned by foreigners yet they want to point toothpicks at others, there a big log in their eye remains. nothing but a big man syndrome ,zero substance. respect is not demanded it is earned, 3 Likes |

For a country like Nigeria that patronizes even basic food commodities is a clear indicator of a retrogressive backward nation. All other African countries are seemingly moving forward so fast yet Nigeria is stagnated in the 1980s rhetoric of we are giANT of Africa crap.... Am surprised the only notable bragging right most Nigerians have are in terms of poor population control and lack of family planning methods. 2 Likes

NairobiWalker: How many planned cities do you have on this list? None. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planned_community How many universities do you have out of 200 best universities in Africa? Remember, We have 54 countries in Africa. So, we should expect at least two top universities from these countries. Meaning 54 × 2 = 108, Substrate 108 from 200, it will remain 92 universities. How many Nigerian universities are in the top 200? 16. Remove the initial 2, it remains 14. Now, let us Substrate the 14 from 92 universities left to be shared among 54 countries, we have 78 remaining. Distribute it across 54 countries, it remains 25. Distribute it across the developed countries in Africa, as expected South Africa, Egypt, Algeria, should have the lion share but unfortunately, Kenya was able to get 2. 3 + the initial 2, Kenya has only 5 universities out of 200 universities. Which country education is better between Nigeria and Kenya? Obviously, Nigeria. 2 Likes |

kongobi: This is for you who is claiming our mining is controlled by foreigners, this for you who is claiming our telecommunications is controlled by foreigners (when we know Kenya only has 60 % in Safaricom the only... ), the is for you who is claiming foreigners control our retail industry in Nigeria when we know Shoprite is only located in 10 cities out of 50 cities and several towns in Nigeria. This is for you you who is thinking there no other sectors even bigger than the ones you listed. As you can see, we have indigenous companies more than Kenya in every sectors, sorry. My final verdict on the strength of MNCs owned by Nigerians and Kenyans in every sectors which includes Oil and gas, Banking, Insurance, Retail, Hospitality, FCMG, Telecommunication, Technology, Engineering, etc is that Nigeria is ahead of Kenya in every sector of MNCs except Hospitality and.... . grin First of all, let us start with Oil and gas. OIL AND GAS Kenya's best oil and gas company Kenolkobil, is the only MNCs in this sector with operations only in 11 African (majorly East Africa and South Africa) countries while Nigeria on the other hand has more MNCs in this sector with operations not only in Africa but Europe and America at large, giving them a global out look. Oando Plc( West Africa, Toronto, USA, Joburg, South Africa and Nigeria), Sahara group (Nigeria, U.K, Switzerland, U.A.E, Ghana, Cote D'Ivoire, Singapore), Conoi plc, Fort oil(Nigeria Ghana, London etc), Erin petroleum Co (USA, China, Nigeria, Ghana and Gambia even Kenya), Heyden( Nigeria, United Kingdom, Dubai, UAE, Cape Town, South Africa), Obat Oil ( Europe and Africa) SAPETRO Limited (Nigeria, Central Africa and East Africa) NNPC NLNG TKO Nigeria won this contest TELECOMMUNICATIONS Safaricom is only a Kenyan based company while Glo mobile operations are in Nigeria, Ghana, Benin and Cote D'Ivoire. Glo network also covers 170 countries in roaming services. We still have Ntel and visafone TKO Nigeria won again BANKING In Banking, Kenya KCB and Equity, Kenya's largest banks have operations in 7 & 6 countries in Eastern Africa respectively while Nigeria has many of its bank in many African countries and outside Africa. e.g FirstBank is the biggest bank in Nigeria by total deposits and gross earnings and operates a network of over 750 business locations across Africa, the United Kingdom and representative offices in Abu Dhabi, Beijing, Johannesburg, South Africa, DR Congo, Ghana, Sierra Leon, Guinea, France and Senegal. United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, is one of Africa's leading banking Groups with operations in 19 African countries and offices in three global financial centers: London, Paris and New York. Zenith Bank maintains subsidiaries in the United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, Ghana, Sierra Leone and The Gambia, South Africa and China. Access Bank Group; Nigeria, Burundi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ghana, Rwanda, the Gambia, Sierra Leone, Zambia and the United Kingdom.[1] As of December 2015, Access Bank Group had assets in excess of US$13 billion. GTBank plc has 231 branches, 17 Cash Centres, 18 e-branches, 35 GTExpress locations and more than 1165 ATMs in Nigeria. GTBank has expanded to Cote d'Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda. These countries belong to the "Eco zone". It has also expanded to the United Kingdom. With the acquisition of a 70 per cent stake in Fina Bank GTBank expanded into the East African market as at December 2013. As a consequence, Fina Bank will now be renamed and rebranded as subsidiaries of GTB and. These are just few among many. Kenya banks have been overwhelmed by Nigerian banks TKO Nigeria's banks won again. INSURANCE Britam group, à company offering insurance, asset management, banking and property investment has operations in 7 countries (Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan, Tanzania, Malawi, Rwanda and Mozambique) in Eastern and Southern Africa. While....... Industrial and General Insurance Company Plc is a leading provider of insurance and risk management services in West Africa. IGI is a large insurance services provider in Nigeria and through its subsidiaries, in Ghana, the Gambia, Rwanda and Uganda, London, UK and Washington, DC,USA, has a global company outlook than its Kenyan counterpart. In addition, NICON Insurance with operations in Nigeria, Sao Tome and Principal, and London, UK. MUTUAL is the flagship of insurance in Nigeria and runs a full-fledged insurance operation in Liberia and Republic of Niger Continental Reinsurance has six client service centres in Nigeria, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Kenya, Tunisia and Botswana. From our Nigerian headquarters, we have grown a diversified portfolio in more than 44 countries, adding value wherever we go, and developing enduring partnerships premised on ‘Pan-African commitment made local’. Another TKO, Nigeria won the insurance sector. TECHNOLOGY I don't know much about Kenya's Technology but looking at Nigeria's list of technology companies, it is intimidating. Nevertheless, until the Kenyans on this platform provides a more reputable ones than the ones Nigeria has, I will say it is walk over. Interswitch is an Africa-focused integrated digital payments and commerce company that facilitates the electronic circulation of money as well as the exchange of value between individuals and organisations on a timely and consistent basis. It has operations in Nigeria, Uganda and Kenya. grin MainOne” also known as “Main One Cable” or “Main One”) is a leading provider of innovative telecom services and network solutions for businesses in West Africa, and with operations in Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Mauritius and Portugal. TKO TKO again. Nigeria won the technology contest. grin If there is any our Kenya brothers doesn't agree let them point it out. grin [quote author=forgiveness post=51669359] Let me continue to compare both countries MNCs in every sector. TRANSPORTATION Aviation Kenya is doing very well in this sector with Kenya airways as the major player. Kenya Airways is one of Africa's largest airline company with operations in almost every African capital (44 destinations in Africa, 10 destinations in Asia and America 54 in total) While Nigeria also have some major players in this sector Arik air is the largest airline in Nigeria and it is privately owned by Nigerians. It flies to 15 destinations across Africa, Europe and America. Med View airways is also a privately owned by Nigerians with operations in Europe, Africa and Asia. London, UK, Jebbah and Slok air was initially established in Nigeria before it was relocated to Gambia. Its destinations are, Ghana, Sierra Leon, Guinea, Senegal, Cote D'Ivoire, Liberia, Mali and Cote D'Ivoire. Kenya won it Road transport Nigeria has a lot of companies plying the west Africa corridors. ABC transport; Ghana, Togo, Nigeria and Benin Cross Country transport limited; Ghana, Togo, Nigeria and Benin Chisco Transport; Ghana, Togo, Benin and Nigeria Young shall grow transport; Ghana, Togo, Benin, Mali, Burkina Faso, Cote D'Ivoire and Nigeria Efex Executive; Togo, Ghana, Nigeria, Benin and Cote D'Ivoire GUO Motors; Ghana, Benin, Nigeria, Togo, Senegal and Cote D'Ivoire etc. Until I see Kenyans MNCs in this sector, it is a walk over Nigeria won Holistically speaking, Nigeria has an edge over Kenya because both are developed in Nigeria. Therefore, Nigeria won the Transportation sector. RETAIL In this sector, Kenya has two MNCs in this sector. Nakumatt is the largest retailers from Kenya have operations in 6 (mostly East African) countries and Tuskys which is one of the large supermarket chains in the Great Lakes Area. Kenya and Uganda to be specific. While Nigeria has two types of shopping malls, the online shopping and the normal shopping. JUMIA is a Nigerian online shopping site for a wide range of electronics, fashion, home appliances and kid’s items. As of 2015, Jumia has warehouses in ten other countries, including: Egypt, Morocco, Kenya, Cote d'Ivoire, Uganda, Ghana, Cameroon, United Kingdom, Tanzania and Angola. Konga is also a Nigerian online shopping site. It has warehouses in Nigeria and Ghana. Silverbird group has a retail stores in Nigeria, Ghana and Kenya. Nigeria won this one too. QSR I don't know much about Kenyan Quick service restaurant and that will bring to conclusion that Nigeria is ahead. Chicken Republic is a Nigerian quick service restaurant with operations in Nigeria and Ghana. Nigeria won again. To be continued. From what I am seeing here Nigeria is on top. I want our Kenyan brothers to do the remaining sectors. FCMG, Hospitality, Business, Construction/Engineering and whichever sector you feel is missing. Let us settle the scores. Once and for all. grin So, far these facts have not been disproved by any Kenyan here. |

Kenya was amongst the world most improved for second year ranking and now target top 50 -in ease of doing business. Suffice to say there is NO indicator where Nigeria beat kenya. Africa giant where everything is faked is still struggling to get National ID system. How do they even authenticate anything. Nearly every kenyan adult(+18) carries a national ID and that is what you use for ANY transaction - which is why stuff like mpesa thrives. Gov collects fingerprints and Id plus your biometrics is used. The system is water-tight enough to be trusted by anyone. Kenya ID system since before independence Nigeria fledging attempt at national id system - that is still not used widely 1 Like |

Matters taxes - Nigeria has the world worst tax to gdp ratio (about 4%) or about 6%(if you include oil) - inclusive of federal, state and local taxes - while Kenya - which again doesn't have any mineral or oil - has impressive GDP tax ratio of 21-22%.It reason kenya with 45m people has about the same money to spend with nigeria's Africa giant with 180m people (lots of fakery) and lots of oil. wow so Kilimanjaro is Nigeria's favorite and fastest growing restaurant chain. Privately owned by Nigerians ?, its management is made up of a team of young and dynamic professionals with wide range of exposure and experience obtained from within and outside the food industry. From our humble beginnings with a single restaurant in Port Harcourt, the restaurant chain has spread to several other locations in Port Harcourt and Abuja with many more in the pipeline for other cities around the country. "We aim to bring our unique and popular food and services closer to families around the country and someday, the African continent at large. We believe that every family has the right to the Kilimanjaro experience." Kilimanjaro restaurants feature the highest quality food and beverage, offer competitively pricing and superior services in a comfortable atmosphere which guarantees a memorable experience to all our esteemed customers. |
