Zane2point4: His argument is very true. Anyone can speak pidgin without going to school just as anyone can speak hausa. Hausa is the lingua franca of the north while pidgin is the lingua franca of the south. Standard British English is our official language. 2 Likes |

Almand: @ the highlighted, if that is the case, what makes u think that all the classrooms in the north are as displayed in the report? Haven't u seen worse cases in the East? 1 Like |

zionmade: This is the dumbest comment av heard in my life. When u are in Rome u behave like the Romans. U should have made efforts to learn hausa. Hausa is the lingua franca of the north just as Pidgin is for the south. Besides in most parts of yoruba land, u must learn to speak yoruba to get by everyday. Why didn't u just redeployed when u knew u were not ready to learn the hausa language which is the lingua franca of 17 states of northern Nigeria? 1 Like |

zionmade: Tell that to the NYSC. Northernerns are not the owners of NYSC, u should have redeployed when u knew that u were not ready to learn the lingua franca of the northern half of Nigeria. When you are in Rome, learn to behave like the Romans, as long as all southernerns cannot communicate in standard british english which is the official working language of Nigeria, then u really have no right to fault any northerner for not speaking British English. Pidgin is not our official language. 2 Likes |

WINNERMENTALITY: Just to correct your ignorance. Hausa language is not used in Hausa land only. Hausa land just covers only the northwest. Most parts of the northeast and northcentral are not hausa land, they belong to different ethnic groups who have all adopted hausa as their lingua franca. So hausa serves as the lingua franca for about half of Nigeria and it's good you learn it if you ever want to cross over from the southern half of Nigeria or just remain in your southern half of the country. 1 Like |

menwongo: This is wrong. Not everyone who speaks pidgin can understand Standard British English well. Benue state has higher literacy rates than many southern states. I also served in the southwest and most of them there spoke only yoruba. |

nextprince: Of course. Don't mind all these southern hypocrites. They always condemn the north as if their region is as safe and free from negative vices as the United Kingdom or Switzerland, not knowing that they have some of the worst in their areas. Every region has it's negative vices. 2 Likes |

ianSweet:Dane argument, how can you compare pidgin with your hausa language. Now I understand why Nigerians Never tally. Pidgin in countries like Sierelone has been adopted as formal language and English visitors needs to learn it inorder to communicated fluently with the people. With your Argument it means Nigeria can never adopt pidgin as formal language cos folks like you believe Pidgin is to South while Hausa is to North. |

Like an intensive and unkempt chicken pen. Tell me what are they going to learn in an environment like that? How to be moronic zombies,of course. Nigerian education lacks common sense and it is the core reason why it is unproductive. 2 Likes |

nextprince: Yes you may be telling the truth. But most of the northern states have been to is a sorry story. I don't want to argue here because I understand the situation there: Students travel miles by legs to school, to and fro. On coming back they need to help their father in farming. Where is the time to read. Northern state have large land mass. After all the stress they ain't gonna read trust me. |

Most of the comments show that there's no hope for the nation. Instead of talking about ways all Nigerian children can have equal access to quality education, the foolish "future leaders" have managed to turn it into a tribal issue. I can't believe some idiƶts think one must learn Hausa to teach their children. Hausa, like any other primitive local language, simply doesn't have the vocabulary for STEM education. 2 Likes |

No wonder we have the kind of Buhari and Solomon Dalong as decision makers in Nigeria affairs... Itz easier 2 deceive a stark illiterate than any1 dat has passed thru any secondary school in d North. Thus, dia leaders, both past n present use dis as a tool 2 keep them in bondage so dat dey can steal dia resources blind in broad daylight. TUFIAKWA |

lirusehn:u re talking of Jss3, I am currently serving in Jigawa St, Over 80 of ss3, ss2, n, ss1 don't understand English. #TeamBaTuruci. And their Hausa indigent teachers are the cause, they re not helping matters at all, they use Hausa to teach them even English language. They are just customised to understand only Hausa Lang. if u ask them a question, they will be like "Uncle walahi, ba turuci" So pathetic! 2 Likes 1 Share |

nextprince:What u said z true Bc I am from East, but u can't compare the ratio of those that don't understand English in East to that of d North, I'm currently serving in Jigawa St. Up to 80% of the students are #TeamBaTuruci, though some do understand but can't speak, They indigent teachers are the cause, they customised them to only understand Hausa Lang, as they even use Hausa to teach them English language. When I asked d principal if he can enforce the use of English language in classes, he just acted like a politician trying to impress d people with promises, while he lacked the political will to implement/fulfil them. Hausa z an Official Lang here in d North. Some state owned high institutions, even use it atimes. |

zionmade: You are not better than the northernerns, so shove your bitterness up your ass. Dont step your stupid foot on thr northern half of Nigeria if u know you are not ready to flow with the lingua franca of the region. NYSC or whatever notwithstanding. If i want to go to the south i make sure i speak or understand at least pidgin, yoruba or Igbo because majority of southernerns do not understand standard british english. Coconut heads! |

WINNERMENTALITY: See this ignoramus. The British broadcasting corporation (BBC), Radio france, German deutschewelle and other international radio stations broadcast in hausa because hausa is well spoken by over 150 million people in 5 different countries of Africa as a first language and lingua franca, so it is not just comparable to pidgin but it is better than pidgin. Pidgin is a structureless language which does not have it's own writing system in Nigeria. Almost half of Nigeria on the other hand use hausa as their lingua franca, even down to Ghana, Niger, Cameroon, Benin republic, Sudan, Chad, hausa is spoken and understood. |
