Your arguements isnt true, i was even praying my students in kebbi state understood pigin back then as a corper, u need to have a tleast a formal education before you speak pigin.

His argument is very true. Anyone can speak pidgin without going to school just as anyone can speak hausa.

Hausa is the lingua franca of the north while pidgin is the lingua franca of the south. Standard British English is our official language.

I still repeat not in the east. Those who attend schools among them go there to learn. you can't rule out some few dull ones through. Is like me telling you those in Ibadan can not speak good English simply because in my secondary school than, we were still being taught what is pronoun in SS3

@ the highlighted, if that is the case, what makes u think that all the classrooms in the north are as displayed in the report? Haven't u seen worse cases in the East?

Am ashamed that am in d same country with Hausas. I suffered in north for common bike man to carry me to my destination he will take me round d whole town because he cant even understand drop me for park.

U northerners are too backward. Even the Hausa teachers cannot speak good english talk less of d students.

For our Bible we memorize only in sunday schools unlike ur people dat spend from 2pm to 8pm memorizing koran everyday. And at d end of d day they still do all sorts of evil
Western education is not for northerners. NYSC should stop punishing us

This is the dumbest comment av heard in my life.
When u are in Rome u behave like the Romans. U should have made efforts to learn hausa.
Hausa is the lingua franca of the north just as Pidgin is for the south. Besides in most parts of yoruba land, u must learn to speak yoruba to get by everyday.

Why didn't u just redeployed when u knew u were not ready to learn the hausa language which is the lingua franca of 17 states of northern Nigeria?

You are the one who was generalizing, though the situation is pronounced in the north, there are schools in every part of this country whose story is not different from the op's

Bia Abokina i told u before that u re a fool. And u re here still exposing ur foolishness. Why dnt NYSC post only hausa graduates there to teach ur illiterate brothers and stop punishing us by subjecting us to teaching bunches of Ba turanchis. When u were in south how many times did u hear dem tell u dat they dont understand English. have u heard Anaghi m anu ihe ina asu before. Anyway u can hardly differentiate most Hausa graduates from Hausa illiterates. If u want to know wat is paining me. I just came back from sokoto. God help me punish NYSC

Tell that to the NYSC. Northernerns are not the owners of NYSC, u should have redeployed when u knew that u were not ready to learn the lingua franca of the northern half of Nigeria.
When you are in Rome, learn to behave like the Romans, as long as all southernerns cannot communicate in standard british english which is the official working language of Nigeria, then u really have no right to fault any northerner for not speaking British English.
Pidgin is not our official language.

Bro am not here to argue with u who speaks correct english or not but what am saying in essence is that your people literacy level is too low because your type prefer selling them to the socalled english south u stated as English literate whereas they are just good as your local champions that believes that Nigeria starts and end in Hausa land with Hausa language.

Just to correct your ignorance. Hausa language is not used in Hausa land only.
Hausa land just covers only the northwest. Most parts of the northeast and northcentral are not hausa land, they belong to different ethnic groups who have all adopted hausa as their lingua franca.
So hausa serves as the lingua franca for about half of Nigeria and it's good you learn it if you ever want to cross over from the southern half of Nigeria or just remain in your southern half of the country.

Am from south south, served at Benue state then. The north is zero when it comes to education!

This is wrong. Not everyone who speaks pidgin can understand Standard British English well.
Benue state has higher literacy rates than many southern states.
I also served in the southwest and most of them there spoke only yoruba.

Of course. Don't mind all these southern hypocrites. They always condemn the north as if their region is as safe and free from negative vices as the United Kingdom or Switzerland, not knowing that they have some of the worst in their areas.
Every region has it's negative vices.

Pidgin in countries like Sierelone has been adopted as formal language and English visitors needs to learn it inorder to communicated fluently with the people.

I have come across corpers from the south who cannot piece up few words to make a simple correct sentence. It will interest u to know that majority of nlders are from the south and if their level of education is anything to go by, hmm. There was a corp member then at my orientation camp who was busy telling one of the soldiers "oga I want go sh_it". And that is the only way she could express herself. When she wanted to correct herself, she said " oga I want to go and sh_it", can u imagine? And that same 'graduate' will be somewhere saying the north is educationally backward. Abeg I no fit laff jawe.

Yes you may be telling the truth. But most of the northern states have been to is a sorry story.
I don't want to argue here because I understand the situation there: Students travel miles by legs to school, to and fro. On coming back they need to help their father in farming. Where is the time to read. Northern state have large land mass.
After all the stress they ain't gonna read trust me.

Most of the comments show that there's no hope for the nation.

Instead of talking about ways all Nigerian children can have equal access to quality education, the foolish "future leaders" have managed to turn it into a tribal issue.

I can't believe some idiƶts think one must learn Hausa to teach their children. Hausa, like any other primitive local language, simply doesn't have the vocabulary for STEM education.

And their Hausa indigent teachers are the cause, they re not helping matters at all, they use Hausa to teach them even English language.
They are just customised to understand only Hausa Lang.
if u ask them a question, they will be like "Uncle walahi, ba turuci"

What u said z true Bc I am from East, but u can't compare the ratio of those that don't understand English in East to that of d North, I'm currently serving in Jigawa St.
Up to 80% of the students are #TeamBaTuruci, though some do understand but can't speak, They indigent teachers are the cause, they customised them to only understand Hausa Lang, as they even use Hausa to teach them English language.
When I asked d principal if he can enforce the use of English language in classes, he just acted like a politician trying to impress d people with promises, while he lacked the political will to implement/fulfil them.
Hausa z an Official Lang here in d North.

See this ignoramus.
The British broadcasting corporation (BBC), Radio france, German deutschewelle and other international radio stations broadcast in hausa because hausa is well spoken by over 150 million people in 5 different countries of Africa as a first language and lingua franca, so it is not just comparable to pidgin but it is better than pidgin.

Pidgin is a structureless language which does not have it's own writing system in Nigeria.
Almost half of Nigeria on the other hand use hausa as their lingua franca, even down to Ghana, Niger, Cameroon, Benin republic, Sudan, Chad, hausa is spoken and understood.
