In the end it comes down to preparation and your answers, you gave during that 2 to 5 minute interview.

Make sure you give your 100% effort.

Dress well, rehearse the answers, multiple times.

Go in there with positive thinking

No one is perfect, there’s some disadvantages with every person. But, stay positive.

Be confident
Be yourself and do not change your English accents
Eye contact with the VO is highly important
Be very brief and concise with your answers (2-3 points per answer)
Put a smile on your face while greeting the consular officer
Never degrade your country, nor compare it with other countries

And you will look like a sheep when you smile. But there are couple of ways to force someone to smile back at you.

Second is looking at the person's physical apperance. If a female VO is interviewing you, just look at her straight in the eyes and tell her that she looks good. But do not say it loud.

Try to be calm when answering questions.
Always put on a smile and maintain eye contact when the V.O asks and expects you to answer questions.
Never argue with the V.O or show you know more than they do,make your answers brief and simple.
Make the interview an interactive session.
Know full details about the school/schools you applying to.
Before submitting your DS-160,make sure you know full details of what you filled in.
And lastly start and back all you do with prayers for a happy ending
