Most naija coaches are thieves, no doubt.

For the first time in my years, we haven't seen any recent hair scratcher of an invite to the Super Eagles team.
But under Keshi, Siasia, or Oliseh, you'd always have 2 or 3 players you'd be asking yourself, 'how in the world did this guy make the team?'

Only 2 or 3 hmmm much more Rueben Gabriel played about 30 minutes in total of football in the 2013/14 season at lowly rated Kilmarnock.

Shockingly made the team as a defensive midfielder, I'm sure you could easily name another 4/5.

Wasn't expecting u to mean snow but even our league goes on around that time, it would even be better to have it at the beginning of the season like the olympics. Playing the afcon in january is bad for african football, the afcon is the reason we have only had a few consistent players in Europe.

A July/August tournament would also rob African players of the opportunity to impress their club managers in pre-season. Besides, African EPL players would miss the first two weeks of the season.

Should Nigeria and Ghana bid to co-host the 2026 World Cup? If so, our competition would be the US, Mexico and/or South American countries. FIFA has already barred European and Asian nations from bidding.

Host cities could be:
Ghana - Accra, Kumasi, Cape coast, Tamale

Nigeria - Abuja, Lagos, PH, Uyo, Enugu, Kano, Ibadan, and Warri.

The opening match would be held in Accra, while the final will be in Lagos.
Round of 32 venues would be in every stadium
Round of 16 games would take place in Ghana (Accra, Cape Coast, Kumasi, Tamale); Nigeria (Lagos, Enugu, PH, Kano)
Quarter finals may be in Ghana (Kumasi, Tamale) and Nigeria (Uyo, Abuja)
The semis could be in Accra and Abuja

Rangersmake u-turn on Chisom Egbuchulam transfer, declare star missing

Rangers letter to Etoile on Chisom Egbuchulam

Rangers have made a dramatic u-turn as regards the transfer of Chisom Egbuchulam to Tunisian champions Etoile du Sahel, declaring him missing even after they have been negotiating with Etoile a transfer fee for the player.

An official statement signed by Rangers media director announced that Etoile are trying to poach Egbuchulam, who was not given permission to travel to Tunisia for any transfer negotiations.

Board of Rangers International Football Club Enugu has declared Her star player, Chisom Egbuchulam AWOL.

A statement by the Director Media and Public Relations of Rangers Fc, Foster Chime, said the Board’s position is that the Tunisian club Etoile Sportive du Sahel have illegally poached Rangers FC player, Chisom Egbuchulam and Rangers FC have not agreed any terms with Etoile Sportive Du Sahel.

“Rangers FC did not give any official permission to Chisom Egbuchulam to travel to Tunisia or approval to leave his primary area of assignment,” read the statement.

“Rangers FC officially received letter of interest on Chisom Egbuchulam which was replied and communicated to Etoile Sportive du Sahel accordingly.

“The club maintains that Chisom Egbuchulam can only be transferred for a fee of five hundred thousand dollars and still remains bonafide Rangers player till January, 2018.

“Rangers board also warns other interested clubs including Etoile Sportive du Sahel to steer clear of their player, Chisom Egbuchulam, but should open appropriate official communications channels with Rangers Fc if interested in the player rather than circumventing the extant and stipulated NFF, CAF and FIFA rules to poach our player.

Rangers Intl FC Enugu have already officially communicated NFF, CAF and FIFA on the stealing/poaching of their player Chisom Egbuchulam by Etoile Sportive du Sahel of Tunisia, and warned that the club is ready to invoke all means at its disposal to protect their player from this unwanton act.”

However, it has also been uncovered that Rangers have officially communicated the Tunisian champions, demanding they pay $300,000 and agree a 30% sale-on clause in case of a subsequent transfer of Egbuchulam.

In a letter dated December 13, 2016 and signed by Rangers secretary Elder Joseph Onwukwe, put their request in black and white.

They also said they are not aware of a Benin Republic-based agent Ogunbiyi in this transaction.

Rangers, Rivers United confident after fair Champions League draw

Nigeria champions Rangers

Both Nigeria’s representatives in next year’s CAF Champions League, Enugu Rangers and Rivers United, have expressed confidence they will fight their way to the top of the premier African club competition after a draw that revealed their preliminary round foes.

Rangers will battle little known Algerian club J.S Saoura, while Rivers United are up against AS Real Bamako of Mali.

The first leg matches are to be played between February 10-12 with the return leg slated for between February 17-19.

Winners of the Rangers tie will play this year’s beaten finalists Zamalek of Egypt in the first round, while overall winners of the Rivers United preliminary clash will play either El Merrikh of Sudan or Sony Nguema of Equatorial Guinea.

“We've been preparing for Africa,” said Rangers team manager Ameobi Ezeaku.

“We have to take each game as it comes.

“The Algerian side are a decent side, but we will be mentally and physically fit to play them.”

“We are going away from home for the first leg, which is good for Rivers United,” said star forward Bernard Ovoke in his own reaction to the draw.

“We will go as much as we can to push the Malians so that in the return leg we will wrap it up to qualify to the second round of the Champions League.

“We are not afraid of AS Real Bamako.

“We have fully prepared for the CAF Champions League, even if the match were to be played tomorrow we are ready to play.”

The Malians have already lost striker Ibrahima Traore to another Nigerian club FC Ifeanyi Ubah last month.

Nico Dao is also another former AS Real Bamako player who is currently on the books of Ifeanyi Ubah.

They have been crowned Malian champions on six previous occasions (1969, 1980, 1981, 1983, 1986 and 1991).

They have participated in the CAF Champions League on seven previous occasions. Their best performance in the competition came in 1966 when they lost in the final

Victor Moses:

This summer, Moses appeared destined for the exit door at Chelsea after returning to the club from yet another indifferent loan spell. However, the Nigeria international has emerged as the key beneficiary of Antonio Conte’s arrival at Stamford Bridge, with the manager’s 3-4-3 set-up and redeployment of Moses as a right wing-back helping the wideman rediscover his best form. A recent winner against Tottenham Hotspur is testament to his renaissance.

Amos Adamu could face additional two-year ban from football

The deposed Fifa chief may see his punishment for bribery extended, as the ethics committee looks into the original judgement.

Amos Adamu could yet face another two years ban from all football-related activity after the investigatory chamber of Fifa's ethics committee for breaching the body’s code of ethics.

The former Fifa executive committee member made a comeback to the game after completing his three years ban for demanding for £504,000 (N 124,862,360) to influence his vote for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups hosting right in a tingle operation run by the Sunday Telegraph.

He now faces an additional suspension and 20,000 Swiss franc fine ($19,445, 18,724 euros) for further violations covering general rules of conduct, loyalty and conflict of interest - of its Code of Ethics.

Adjudicatory chamber of the independent Ethics Committee opens proceedings against Amos Adamu https:///Rh2OIDcjYC— FIFA Media (@fifamedia) December 20, 2016

The investigations against Mr. Adamu conducted by Dr Cornel Borbély, chairman of the investigatory chamber of the Ethics Committee, were opened on 9 March 2015 and the final report was passed to the adjudicatory chamber on 2 December 2016.

A final report was passed to Fifa’s adjudicatory chamber recommending a sanction, after which ethics committee chairman Hans-Joachim Eckert decided to open proceedings.

According to the world football governing body, it would make no further comment on the case “For reasons linked to privacy rights and the presumption of innocence until proven guilty, the adjudicatory chamber will not publish further details at the present time.”

The financial burden may be too much for Nigeria to handle alone. Besides, almost all the stadia, except Abuja national stadium, would need to be upgraded. That's an additional cost too.

Well u are absolutely right but the local coaches are not d only culprits, their foreign counterparts are not left out.

Did you remember Emeka Ezeugu under westerhoff who had most of his career in India league but always making westerhoff team even to US 94.This is a guy that has nothing to show in his club career.

What of Mike Emenalo that made US 94 despite zero appearance for Einthract Trier a 2nd tier team in German league(93-94)though he had average W/C outing replacing injured Iroha at US 94.

Furo Iyenemi under Binfere Jo,despite always on the bench with Sion, made Sydney and afcon 2000 and his ability was always questionable. Also Chukwu Ndukwe under Bonfere Jo,despite zero appearance with Bari made afcon 2000,though scored in the final but making the team was questionable.

Also Sani Kaita under Thijs Libreght, this is a player that was loaned to three different clubs in a season 09-2010(locomotives Moscow, vladikavkaz, kharkiv)but still make d team to 2010 W/C.

Not forgetting how Joseph Dosu made the team to Atlanta 96,though had a good outing. The scenario concerning Dosu invitation was business like between Bonfere Jo and Churchill Olishe coz Dosu appearance at Atlanta w seal a deal with Regggiana fc which Churchill already brokered for Dosu.

There are a lot of things that happened behind d scene that w fans w find it difficult to believe coz there are some players till today Nigerians are wondering how they managed themselves into d team either under d local or foreign coach.

you can't make Iwobi the focal point because he tends to get tired around the 70th minute mark of every single game. if you lose your most valuable piece at that point of the game, then you are on a very long thing, just like if you lose your queen in a game of chess even before your opponent introduces his own queen into the game then you are dead. Iwobi needs to work on his fitness
You're right, but he is working hard on that. I prefer he comes off the bench rather than Oxlade.

If i'm not mistaken most countriies build their facilities for the world cup. We can do with more stadiums like uyo but the sticking issues is money. To me it would be a shame if the first female world cup hosted in Africa is not in Nigeria.

Considering the huge sum of money the government has invested and is about to, on infrastructures recently. Especially, the constructions and renovations of 5 international airports and few local airports, Construction of new airport in Lekki Lagos, constructions of standard gauge railway across the country, building of new dams, Construction of Mono rails in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt and Calabar etc I expected the government to use this opportunity to host big events like the world cup or the Olympics to showcase our development to the world and recoup the funds extended in these investments but.......

However, I think if we succeed in executing these projects or at least prove to FIFA that we are committed to these projects, we will have only few areas to address which are the stadiums.

To host the world cup we need 12 stadiums with at least 40,000 seating capacity for the group stages to the quarter finals, at least 60,000 for the Semi-finals and 80,000 capacity for the final.

But we only have one 60,000 capacity stadium in Abuja and two above 40,000 capacity in Jos (44,000) and Lagos(45,000).

Though the National stadium Lagos has been abandoned for 12 years, It can be reconstructed or renovated to have 80,000 capacity.

Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium is 38,000 capacity while Muhammadu Dikko stadium Kastina, MKO Abiola stadium Abeokuta and Tesilim Balogun stadium Lagos are 35,000 capacity.

Good cities like Calabar, Kano and Kaduna only have stadiums with 16,000 while Enugu and Ibadan has stadiums with the capacity of 22,000 and 25,000 respectively.

Akwa Ibom stadium seating capacity is just 30,000 and I think it can be adjusted to 40,000.

What this means is that we have to build at least 5 stadiums in those 5 good cities, upgrade Lagos, Uyo, Port Harcourt stadiums to 80,000 and 40,000 and renovate Jos, Abuja and Tesilim Balogun stadiums to international standards.

The remaining one stadium can be chosen from Abeokuta, Kastina or Warri grin provided they are able to fulfill the other criteria like standard of hotels, transportation and security.

If we want to do it together with Ghana, I don't think it is a bad idea. But Ghana only has two stadiums with 40,000 capacity in Accra and Kumasi. Meaning they have to build 2 or 3 new stadiums. grin

We will be contending with Canada if we want to host the world cup. shocked grin

I think this is a welcome development.

But the sport minister we have no get vision. grin

One of them has to start. And seriously Oxlade isn't a great option at all, they are just managing him because he peaked at a time when Iwobi was declining, but he isn't top quality. Ramsey is out and he isn't even a LMF, the only other option would be to switch Alexis back to LMF but that would limit his current form. So Iwobi has to start and he needs to learn how to last the entire game else they might be looking for an upgrade come January.

Akpom should be joining the first team come January, but breaking into the team is another thing entirely

Cameroon FA Cite Mikel’s Situation At Chelsea As Evidence That African Players Are Victims Of Blackmails From European Teams Following Players Withdrawal From AFCON

Following the withdrawal of seven key players from their AFCON 2017 squad. The Football Association of Cameroon has cried out that African players are victims of blackmails from European teams, which is why they are turning down the chance to represent their nation.

France-based Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa of Marseille, West Brom’s Allan Nyom, Andre Onana (Ajax Amsterdam), Maxime Poundje (Girondins Bordeaux), Ibrahim Amadou (Lille) and Guy N’dy Assembe are the other names that have turned down the opportunity to play for Hugo Broos.

Nyom, Anguissa, Onana, Amadou and Assembe told Broos that they preferred to stay with their clubs while Poundje wants to play for France.

Fecafoot Head of Media Simon Lyonga lamented that, “This has been going on for long now. The coaches blackmail players who want to go for AFCON with threats of no first choice position.”

“Even the Eto’os had this situation but they knew they could count on their talent. Our younger generation is limited and can easily fall for that.”

“A young man like Zambo Anguissa should be happy to play for his country no matter the situation in camp. Do you think the situation was better when the Mbomas played? I do not think so.”

“We are victims of blackmail and we throw that back to ourselves. We need to fight that. See what is happening to Mikel Obi. Today, he is second choice because his coach told him not to go to the Rio Olympics but South American players can go for Copa America whenever.”

Broos is expected to name his final 23-man list next week as the Indomitable Lions look to win their first Afcon title since 2002.

On Loan Defender Kenneth Omeruo Back At Chelsea

Owngoalnigeria.com understands that Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo is back at Chelsea for treatment after picking up an injury while on duty for his loan side Alanyaspor.

We gathered he missed his club’s last game due to the injury and was slighted at the club headquarters on Monday, for medical examination and subsequent treatment.

Although we fail to get the exact injury he suffered or the length of time he will be sidelined, the injury has however slowed down his remarkable progress at Alanyaspor, where he recently dazzled in a new role in defensive midfield.

Since joining Chelsea in 2013, the 23 year old has endured five different loan spells with Alanyaspor his second loan side in Turkey after defending the colours of Kasimpasa last season.

Omeruo extended his deal at Chelsea before heading to the Turkish side on loan, and so far he has made 11 league appearances with three bookings to his name.

32 year old Utaka moved joined Sanfrecce Hiroshima this season from relegated Shimizu S-Pulse where his nine goals couldn’t keep the team in the top flight league.

Sunderland Manager Moyes Confirms Anichebe’s Eagerness To Play For Nigeria Under Rohr

Coach of Sunderland David Moyes has dropped a big hint regarding the international future of power playing Nigerian forward Victor Anichebe who has been linked with a return to the Nigerian national team under new coach Gernot Rohr.

As exclusively reported by Owngoalnigeria. Com, the former Everton player is among the list of players under consideration by Rohr for the upcoming friendly games of the Super Eagles against Ivory Coast and Senegal next year.

Moyes said: “Victor would love to play for Nigeria, I’m sure, but not now! “Nigeria have good players and a good squad. “It shows how well he is doing, though. “You would be very hard placed to replace him given the quality he has shown.”

Anichebe has 11 caps for his country but last played for them five years ago in an African Cup of Nations qualifier in Madagascar in September 2011. It is no surprise Nigeria are keen to bring him back into the fold. But that will have to wait, with third-bottom Sunderland’s need more pressing.

Anichebe’s arrival has added another dimension to Sunderland’s play, given they finally have someone who can hold the ball up, giving time for others to break forward and join the attack. Moyes has tended to play him on the left-hand side, supporting Defoe from out wide.

And the Sunderland boss is conscious they may have to alter his role in the side over the coming months to keep opposing teams on their toes.

Moyes added: “We need to be mindful, we don’t want teams to work him out. “We might have to change his roles and positions at times. “He has given us a starting point as a team which we have not really had.”

Efe Ambrose Reacts To Marseille Links And Celtic Future

Out of favour Celtic defender Efe Ambrose has confirmed a report by the electronic version of Daily Mail that he is on the wish list of Olympique Marseille of France when the January transfer window reopens.

Ambrose has been frozen out of the first team set up by coach Brendan Rodgers, no thanks to his blunders during the early days of the manager’s reign as coach of the Scottish side.

”Yes I have contact with Marseille but nothing concrete yet, we will know more in the coming days but for now am still at Celtic where am hoping to give my best to force my way back into the plans of the manager”, Ambrose told Owngoalnigeria.com.

He also cleared the air on talks about a possible trial with English Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers in January as reported by Owngoalnigeria.com.

”I have been linked with a host of English Championship teams and they are one of them, but like I said am under contract with Celtic for the next six months. I can’t really say much about other teams that have made move for me.

”The idea is to get back playing, be it with Celtic or any other club. I just want to play football, I still have dreams of representing Nigeria at the 2018 World Cup and playing regularly will boost my chances”.
