mkenya254: @bolded Who told you electricity is the only problem Nigeria is facing? So, because electricity is bad, Nigeria should ignore other problems like environmental issues, Agricultural issues, Electoral issues, Internet issues, Communication,, Health etc, ba. My friend, those things I listed are what we use our Satellites for and Nigeria is making money from them. If Kenya doesn't have the technology and money doesn't mean Nigeria doesn't have and should not use them. Read the article below and take note of the bolded. It will clear you of your ignorance. How Nigeria has been using its satellites By Jacob Aron NigeriaSat-2, which launched in 2011 NigeriaSat-2, which launched in 2011 (Image: SSTL) Yes, Nigeria has a space programme. Since 2003 the West African country has been operating its own satellites, three of which are currently collecting data from Earth orbit. But this week Nigeria’s space agency came under fire after UK newspaper the Daily Mail reported on British politicians questioning why Nigeria is spending money on satellites while accepting foreign aid for the large proportion of its citizens who live in poverty. In fact, the country’s satellites support food production in the region and disaster relief around the world – including helping with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in the US. Nigeria’s National Space Research & Development Agency (NASRDA) launched its first orbiter, NigeriaSat-1, in 2003. The roughly $13 million cost was paid for by the Nigerian government, but it was built by Surrey Space Technology (SST) in the UK and launched from a Russian spaceport. The spacecraft was equipped with high-resolution optical and infrared cameras. “They are there to look at agriculture production, improving food security,” says Audrey Nice of SST. The satellite was also designed for environmental monitoring, such as tracking desertification and even locust swarms. Eye on disaster NigeriaSat-1 lasted until 2012, four years longer than expected. It was succeeded by NigeriaSat-2 and NigeriaSat-X, which both launched in 2011 carrying similar instruments. These satellites were also made at SST, with Nigerian engineers helping to build the latter. In addition to a continued environmental mission, the satellites’ high-resolution images of the country will help Nigeria review electoral boundaries ahead of its general elections in 2015. The NigeriaSats are also part of the international Disaster Monitoring Constellation, coordinated by SST. This network of satellites includes Chinese, Spanish and UK spacecraft that can provide rapid images from space when environmental disasters strike. In 2005 NigeriaSat-1 was the first satellite to send back pictures of the east coast of the US following Hurricane Katrina, says Nice. And the orbiter contributed images to aid workers following the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. Nigeria provides disaster-related imagery for free , but the country generates income from the satellites by selling other image data. NASRDA also commissioned a Chinese-built communications satellite, NigComSat-1, that launched from China in 2007. The satellite lost power a year later and was replaced in 2011 by NigComSat-1R, which is currently providing broadcast and internet services in Nigeria. https://www.google.com.ng/amp/s/www.newscientist.com/article/dn24025-how-nigeria-has-been-using-its-satellites/amp/ http://m.scidev.net/global/earth-science/news/nigeria-launches-first-satellite-built-by-africans.html @bolded 2 Who told you Boko Harem is the only security issue Nigeria is facing? Have you not heard about oil bunkery, Militants in the Niger Delta and pirates? So, Nigeria should leave those ones and only face the Boko boys? O, Nigeria should abandon their God given talents and cough out money to buy ships from US and EU who are not ready to sell weapons to Nigeria? And who told you Nigeria can't make money from building and selling ships like South Korea is doing to boast their economy? My friend, you are shallow minded. About Agricultural products, you no know nada about our capacity in Agriculture. So, hold your peace. 1 Like |

MtuMsuper: Ignorance at it's peak. Most whites and foreigners come to Kenya for charity works and to see the country with Africa's largest and most numerous slums. For Nigeria, it is different, foreigners adore our amazing culture and many cannot go back to their countries without marrying a Nigerian and becoming part of the giant and pride of Africa!

Hello Kenyans in the house, i'd like you guys to meet our west African sibblings (the Ghanaians). The Ghanaians have also tried in developing their cultural attires too, even though not up to their big brother Nigeria but at least far better than countries like Kenya that absolutely have no presentable culture whatsoever other than animal blood drinking and worshipping Indians. We west Africans rock! We are the true Africans who are never ashamed of being who we are. 1 Like

ianSweet:Nigeria is in the top 10 US African Aid recipients... Try and read .... Nigeria – Total (received) (FY 2012): $338 Million) Africa’s most populous nation, largest African contributor to peacekeeping missions, crucial global supplier of crude oil, and the fifth-largest supplier of U.S. crude oil imports. Nigeria seemingly has it all. However, inadequate infrastructure, lack of incentives and policies to promote private sector development; and poor access to quality basic education and health services threaten progress and fuel the grievances, which amplify political unrest, in addition to ethnic and religious differences. Also, a high poverty rate, coupled with a large population of unemployed and underemployed youths (42 percent of those between the ages of 15-24), and increased insecurity in the North, heighten the risk of escalating unrest. Nigeria received $337,801,958 in 2012, a decrease of 36% from 2011’s $459,895,683. http://www.africaranking.com/top-10-united-states-aid-recipients-in-africa/ |

Kenya should consider donating too. The problem with African petroeconomies is that while profits from oil, which are counted as part of GDP, are huge create "big" economies, the miners are foreigners and their profits are usually made by their sister companies. let me explain this for the benefit of girls like IanSweet here... Shell, the mother company with headquarters in tax free places like Switzerland will do the prospecting for Nigerian oil. Shell will then sell the petroleum to its subsidiary, company X. But insignificant profits will be made by Shell company in order to avoid high taxes. company Company X (( these are the companies with stupid local names ), Registered in Switzerland, with an office in Nigeria, will sell the oil at the Swiss COMMODITY MARKET, where all countries buying minerals go for the same. That's why Switzerland is so rich. ALL mineral companies are registered and have headquarters there. So, is Nigeria worth more, theoretically, yes. Is Nigeria getting any of its worth? No. Reason, they do not profit from their resources. Because their minerals are mined by (and for) foreigners. 1 Like |

Add to it questionable policies like tax breaks? So petroleum companies avoid tax, get tax breaks and pollute the entire place without any consequences, while transferring their profits to European tax heavens, and jobs to Europe and US.
