The minister for Information, Culture and Tourism Lai Mohammed on Thursday said the Buhari led administration will forbid monopoly. Lai Mohammed said this during the launching of a new satellite TV service in Abuja. Alhaji Mohammed said monopoly will be completely forbidden to enable Nigerians have access to all type of content. He said they will give equal opportunity to all TV channels,”If it is your program people are watching, you will be the recipient of higher revenues because the advertisers.” Lai Mohammed said ‘There are a number of initiatives that we are focusing on in order to achieve a credible and effective development of our TV and Production industries, and to successfully develop the digital economy’ ”Our digital environment will give equal opportunity to everyone to be rewarded for investment in creativity, and that is what the regime of forensic Audience Measurement, which Digitisation offers, will afford.” “If it is your program people are watching, you will be the recipient of higher revenues because the advertisers will run to you.” “We are going to forbid all forms of monopoly so that all Nigerians can get access to all types of content without having to expend money on multiple devices.” “With the Set-top box you are getting your Free-to-Air channels, you must be allowed to pay for and buy any and every channel allowed to be broadcast in the country.” “We have watched our beloved Nollywood move from VHS tapes to VCD, to DVD and whereas the whole world has moved to digital consumption of content with its attendant benefits and democratisation of distribution, we have been constrained by limited penetration of Internet in our homes.” http://nghubs.com/we-are-going-to-forbid-any-form-of-monopoly-lai-mohammed/ 1 Like

I hope they can keep to their words and enforce it. When Multichoice gives them bags of Dollars, story will change. That was how they allowed our Indigenous HI TV to crumble to the monopoly of DSTV. 22 Likes |

Lai is talking like someone like an epileptic man who wants to cum and is promising the girl heaven and earth. When the time comes for bidding for broadcast rights of international programmes, the South African PayTV providers would move dollars from Johannesburg while Emefiele's CBN would prefer to sell dollars to Abokis than the Nigerian PayTV providers. That is the point Lai would agree that stupidity is an infectious disease. 2 Likes |

Stupid Really stupid Oh, why don't you forbid Dangote too. Then he'll take his investments out of Nigeria and we'll enter recession part 2 modified after reading * So he's saying he's forbidding television monopoly and the bloggers put a sensational headline. These bloggers sef Well, just like the telecommunication sector, you don't just 'ban' monopoly. You should have a 'price floor'. The problems Nigerians have with the price floor in the telecommunication sector is that its too high 1 Like |
