First of all, the provost does not know his basic arithmetic. Those grades he listed amounts to 50 points for 8 subjects. Now he repeated physics (where she scored her lowest) twice instead of adding the 8th subject. So her points should be somewhere above 50, which would give her at least 78.13% for O'level and 80% for UTME. On aggregate with that score, she'd turn out to score 79% which is above their cut off.

Then he said she ranked 103 on the list of those who chose medicine as first choice (based on her wrongly calculated scores). In the same breath he added that there are 56 candidates who scored higher than her but didn't make the cut-off. So it means they gave admission to the best 46 candidates and handpicked picked 54 others who didn't rank as high as 103.

Shame on this provost who doesn't know basic arithmetic! Shame on these Nigerian universities.

regarding the ranking. she ranked 103 among the jambites. 100 students were admitted in all for medicine. but those 100 were not all jambites. direct entry admissions were included. ur logic here does not take the direct entries into consideration.

and I don't think its nice to call the provost names. he should be applauded for showing concern (if its really is true that the reply is from him). most university dons I know wouldn't care a hoot cos they know there's nothing anyone can do about it in this Godforsaken country!

There should be a soft landing for exeptional students. Though for one reason other for not securing admission, there should be a pre-medical programme for them so they don't go back to an enviroment where their brains start gathering cobwebs. Genius should be encouraged.

The mistake is with the summation of her O'level result. From what the distinguished Prof. posted above. The summation of her O'level result should be 50/64 not 44/64. Therefore her O'level score should be 78.1%. Since her JAMB is 320/400. That is 40/50=80%. 78.1+80/2=79.05%. Which is above the merit cut off. She should be on merit list sir.

As an alumni of o.a.u., I remembered we are known for fairness, justice and activism. So I urge our indefatigable prof and provost to please offer this girl her admission. Sir I know your hands are tight because of of the limited quota for medicine dept unlike during our days when you can admit up to 250 candidates, but do justice. Injury to one is injury to all

These admission rules apply to every Nigeria University.
I personally was a victim in OAU, for the same course. Scored high, but because of competition didn't meet merit, catchment and I'm not from ELDS. What did do? I went round faculties pleading for a change of course, until I was admitted into another faculty because I had a good WASSCE and JAMB.
The lady spoke out too late. You dont choose a competitive course in a school like OAU and think you can go to bed cos you scored over 300. There are several students better than you.

the lady is currently a part one student of OAU in medical rehab, she never processed her admission eventhough she is close by to prof and others that would have assisted her.

Going by the scores pasted there the girls score totals 76.7 which just falls barely shy of the 77% cut of mark And that is because her o'level scores total 47/64 as against 45/64 as posted here totalling (73.4+80)/200

So unless many others scored higher than this, they should come up with a different lie!

Lalasticlala seun, the lady is a part one student of medical rehab at OAU, she might have re sat for the exam with the hope of crossing to medicine.

The truth is, if the lady had back up her admission procedure's with brown envelop, someone else name could have been deleted with control Z for her sake

She is currently in department of medical rehab, part one, OAU, i know her. She was careless with her admission, because i dont know what it would have taken her to take one to two steps into the office of the provost or dean to seek assistance all these while!. Chai seun imagine

shut up! Is she the only one who will be denied admission after scoring high mark. She has to try again. She is not the first to try again. Other people have faced similar challenge too in time past. Besides, this gal is currently a med rehab student in OAU. sHE SHOULD HAVE known about OAU admission processings better.
