Most of u are talking based on what dat man said. Am 100% certain that there are ppl on that list who didn't get anything close to merit and are on that list. It is time jamb is probed, why must i know somebody to get into school. It is all this i sabi lecturers dat deprive those who merit it their slot. Some ppl are saying she should go and read for another jamb like it that's easy. If jamb isn't that useless should they allow that particular candidate to waste this result. The painful thing is that most federal universities have shady admission processes.. What differentiates the lady with 320 and someone with 120 in jamb nothing, they both didn't get admitted. The education system is long dead.
Of course over half of the people on that list didn't get up to the merit cut-off mark cos merit comprises just 45% of admissions in Nigerian universities while Catchment area and ELDS take up the remaining 55% ( 35% and 20%). This is the result of having a skewed and shady admission process in Nigeria where merit is sacrificed on the altar of tribalism and Northern supremacy. These are the things that worked against that girl. But honestly, I expect someone with a score of 320 in UTME to do better than a C4 in Physics and Biology especially, in O'Level. Be that as it may, OAU could have at least admitted her for Dentistry which was her second choice course, or what was the essence of telling students to fill both choices if only the first one is being considered? It's quite a sad experience.

I still recall when i was seeking admission into OAU, Ife. I mean, i will see people on the list who had very much lower Jamb score get admission to Civil Engineering. My thoughts was that those guys had a blinding O levels results or my brother who was there then did not do much for me. All then was when i was still naive about Nigerian politics and quota system. I used to believe that you will be chosen on your own merit, if you were better than the other person.

It is a shame really ! Very shameful . There is no explanation to justify th denial of admission
This is unjust , inhumane and wicked

The provost made a wrong calculation, her O/Level result sum up to 50 points of which she if you divide by 64 multiplying by 100, it gives you 78.125. The you finally add up (80(utme point)+78.125 (O/Level point))/2 to give 79.0625% which is higher than the 77% cut off for Medicine.

Nonsense!

First of all, the provost does not know his basic arithmetic. Those grades he listed amounts to 50 points for 8 subjects. Now he repeated physics (where she scored her lowest) twice instead of adding the 8th subject. So her points should be somewhere above 50, which would give her at least 78.13% for O'level and 80% for UTME. On aggregate with that score, she'd turn out to score 79% which is above their cut off.

Then he said she ranked 103 on the list of those who chose medicine as first choice (based on her wrongly calculated scores). In the same breath he added that there are 56 candidates who scored higher than her but didn't make the cut-off. So it means they gave admission to the best 46 candidates and handpicked picked 54 others who didn't rank as high as 103.

Shame on this provost who doesn't know basic arithmetic! Shame on these Nigerian universities. undecided
Dont just vituperate some1 u didnt know who he is and iam sure the provost will have born you 10x . Don't you see the uploaded picture of the screening summary report?

I no longer believe in propaganda.
If you can give me a reason why a low scoring candidate, who had 223 in jamb and an aggregate of 66 was admitted to study medicine instead of that young lady, then I will believe your provost.

If you want people to start believing the provost, then the school authority should publish the names of every admitted students and their aggregate scores on the school website and daily newspapers.
I wish u take ur time 2read d provost explanation very
well...he mentioned some candidates have lower scores bt still gt admitted bks of their states.....

I still disagree with flimsy excuses he has just given. What really baffles me now is the catchment policy which hinders someone choosing institution that is not within his/her catchment area,i pity the poor girl from being deprived of admission, and i want to advise her not to let this weigh her down in her academic carrier.I strongly believe if there is somebody whom she knows and influential in that school, she would have been given admission.
Re: Provost Of Health Sciences Oau Gives Reasons Why Mrs Aror Wasnt Admitted by Nobody: 6:38am On Dec 23, 2016
I thougt direct entry candidates are bound to be admitted to 200l why is he now saying the girl ranked 103 and their qouta is 100(for both utme and direct entry)
Are the direct entry also admitted to 100l...?

Let's reason wella

The second physics on the computation should be replaced with Computer Studies which she got an A1.

That will give her a comfortable grade above the cut-off mark.

Unless this wasn't a transparent process.

she should just do GCE n jamb again...if she writes jamb again, she may not get up to that her score...or she should write jambe again and go for another course if she wants to still use d same waec result...

Yes, and it was used twice in the computation instead of once. Check the computation again, physics was repeated and they left out computer studies which she got A1.

I don't just buy into this vague calculus theorem of the so called provost to denying this girl her admission. Lecturers are so smart in formulating excuses in cover up of their partiality. Whichever way u solved the equation, this girl deserves a place in the merit list
I agree with you on the issue dt she deserve a place in merit list, but my point is dt JAMB should bear d blame. Dt new policy of combining JAMB and O level result to get admission into University will send her to another course not medicine. To me, that policy should be stopped and post utme returned. POST UTME is still better dan combining O level and JAMB result.

Very insightful and clear explanation. Thank God for my late dad (an academic) who understood these "matrixes" and guided me well. Most candidates just choose any university without an understanding of its catchment areas. If she had chosen Delsu, UniBen, UniPort or NDU (her catchment areas) she would have had an automatic offer. I wanted to go to Unilag but my dad guided me that my catchment areas were A.B.U, UniJos, KEFFI, Kogi etc so I chose A.B.U (first choice) and UniJos (2nd choice). I got A.B.U's merit list (with a JAMB score of 274). The painful reality is those ones from educationally disadvantaged States that get admission with score of 180 while you with 250 is denied admission.

The mistake is with the summation of her O'level result. From what the distinguished Prof. posted above. The summation of her O'level result should be 50/64 not 44/64. Therefore her O'level score should be 78.1%. Since her JAMB is 320/400. That is 40/50=80%. 78.1+80/2=79.05%. Which is above the merit cut off. She should be on merit list sir.

It could have even been more if the provost didn't ignore her Computer Studies result of A1 (8 mrks) rather than Further maths of B2 (7 marks).

These lecturers are just perfect at covering up.

ENGLISH A1=8
BIOLOGY C4=5
CHEMISTRY B3=6
MATHS. B3=6
physics. C4=5
Further maths B2=7
civic edu. A1=8

Adding all togeda will result to 45 which makes extra. subject "physics'' make it a total of 50. When you calculate the number of subjects listed you will realize that it is not up to 8 subject with physics being mentioned twice, that is to tell you that mistake in inherent in the calculations.

8+5+6+6+5+7+8=45.

Go thru it again.

I didn't know why a candidate with such score like 320 will be denied admission. I only know that Jamb was d only institution empowered to conduct entrance exam into tertiary school and when pass d exam, you are admitted. I don't know where some universities are getting some of their theories of post utme or screening to deny candidates admission. Those theories are rubbish. Let them publish d admission list, u will see so many unqualified candidates that were admitted. His analysis is rubbish

What concern Civic/Painting with medicine?

What concerned Further Maths with Medicine? The prof included further maths score of B2 for her and left out Computer Studies of A1, is that not voluntary wikedness? Then xometed his computation with Physics being repeated twice, why did they neglect her Computer Studies score of A1?

See The person shouting vc list and tomorrow you will be shouting that nigerian education system is substandard.
See those people, supporting and sympathizing with the corrupt.

I don't believe your cheap propanganda.

If you want, people to believe your provost publish the admission list of your school and everyone will believe what you are saying and If not I buy your story.

I don't have any business with oau And I don't pray to, my concern is the bright future of a young nigerian lady that your provost want to destroy, by admitting candidates with lesser marks than that young lady.

I know you don't have a conscience but please pity that girl And admit her into medicine.
Mr Ojuro,i understood your points and your pain for the young brilliant lady but what i want u to know is dat u dont have any evidence that they admit candidates with lesser mark just like dat.As we have all seen, the girl didnt meet the cutoff and OAU admit strictly on merit.Some1 said b4 that the girl should have tried her luck by discussing with one or nore person in the department. Those who had lesser score and got admitted are those that have long leg and have met with some people.

What shows that the 19 northern states are educationally less privileged? what they know is power, killing and herdsmen. They have ruled the so-called country for years and keep on claiming less privileged. They are now using polities of % to rule out this young lady. They will keep on preaching "catch them young", "change" ,,,,,,,,Young Lady, you should know that your destiny can only be delayed but will not change. Keep on fighting, I will be among the dignitaries that will attend your convocation as you will be a qualified medical practitioner.
