You can't use your father's shares as home ties, since (1) The share certificates does not carries your names. (2) It can't be use as home ties because shares can be sold out at any point, so the V.O will not believe that the shares you or your father has is a strong asset yo bring you back home. To tackle family ties, you need very convincing prrofs like Wife, kid(s), Registered business in your name, Housing properties, land properties.... Goodluck. chibuike123: |

oluphilip2008: I encourage you to apply. Generally speaking graduating with a 2:1 improves chances of admission. buh i will tell you this, people with a gpa of 4.0 have been refused admissions in the past and people with 2:2 have been admitted. it all depends on the nature of your program. is it an intensive thesis MA or just course work? if it is an intensive thesis based MA, then you really need to work hard and clinically on your supporting documents e.g research proposal, statement of intent and recommendation letters. The truth is your gpa only shows that you meet their requirement and doesnt guarantee admission (This is always stated on the program website), because hundreds of applicants also meet their requirement too, buh what seperate you from other applicants is just the cogency of the overview of your application. In determining this, the graduate admissions committee would consider the following factors; how compelling is your story ? what are your achievements? what are your professors/referees/ saying about you? how sound, realistic and practicable is your research proposal? what is your inspiration, motivation for the program? what are your preparations to undertake a graduate program? A friend of mine was recently admitted into the uOttawa with a cgpa lesser than 3.0/5.0 in the same vien, another friend who had a cgpa of 4.1 was rejected admission for the same program. so you see, securing admission isnt just about your GPA. don't get me wrong ma, i am not discouraging people from working hard to attain high gpa, i am only saying that those who graduated with a low gpa should work very hard on their application particularly the supporting documents. Your GPA is not bad. despite the fact the schools you have chosen require 70% in the last two years of study, you can still secure your admission, just ensure to tell a compelling story in your statement of intent. particularly why you had bad grades in some semesters. Ensure to follow up on your recommendation letters, ensure that he who write your recommendation write a very sound, genuine and captivating recommendation letter. Nigerian lecturers/professors are very terrible at this. Pls do submit your application and be positive about the outcome. Ensure to apply to at least 2-3 schools to improve chances of admission. If you're going for a course-work masters then worry less. Admission for Thesis masters is quite challenging and that is why it is usually accompanied with funding/fellowship/scholarship. While course-work masters don't usually attract funding.. So if you're doubtful about your academic profile you could target course-work based masters. Your chances of admission is higher compared to thesis based masters. Mind you some schools place incredible emphasis on GPA. I stand to be corrected anyway. I wish you best of luck. 7 Likes |

Good day people I just stumbled on this tread after looking for information on what to do after being admitted to study in canada. I've learnt a few but would need certain clarifications on some certain issues. First of all I graduated in 2009 with a degree in physiology (2.2). We all know how it is in Nigeria my work experience has spanned mostly working in a bank and some area of logistics basically. I applied for a PGC in an area somehow related to my course of study. My question is will my Visa application not be affected by my work experience and all. Please someone should please clarify this for me thanks |
