Things I Notice About Christmas This Year by Idydarling(f): 7:27am On Dec 24, 2016 |
Fellow Nairalanders, is it just me or has anyone noticed that this year's Christmas is not "really" Christmas as we used to know? For those of u based in the country, you'll agree with me, anyway, these are my observations: 1. No Harmattan: Christmas as we remember is heralded by the arrival of harmattan after October's heat, the dry wind, crackiness of one's body, mild sun, dust, fog oh... need I go on? this always prepares our minds for the coming festive season and there's always an air of festivity around... sometimes, harmattan comes out as early as November, but this year, NOTHING! the sun is as hot as ever, no dryness, only a little fog here and there (early mornings) that's all, why? ². Less Fireworks/ Bangers: I remember some of the names:- knock out, banjar rim, thunder, spritzle etc, their sounds will be going like -- tho000oooooom, kpooo000m, kpa kpa kpa, frrrrrrrr, kpsh kpsh kpsh, brrrrrrrr, fffffffffff, some children will be stealing money to buy knock out upandan, some guys who hold grudges against the pretty girls(who refused to say yes to their demands) will wait for her at a corner of the street and when the innocent girl walks by, the throw knockouts into her clothes, i remember one year like that when it happened to me.... this year, nothing! I only heard knockout once and I ran inside the house thinking it was daylight robbery, please what happened?? 3. Less street decorations:: coupled with the cold, when you go out, u are sure to see elaborate decorations on the streets, this creates thst inner joy in mind u always have when Christmas is around the corner ... but this year, hmm i have traveled to most states this yuletide season and all i see is grudging and miniature decorations dropped there by equally grudging individuals, its only private houses that I see a lil hope that this Christmas wouldn't be so bleak as I think, maka why? whaaaaaaat happun? 4: Less Happiness: hope I'm not mistaken but people this year do not seem happy unlike other Christmases, why? rice have gone awol, even chickens and goats are no way to be found.. I just hope Mavrodi isn't the cause sha... 5: what other thing do u notice that's unusual about this Christmas, oya, add ur own! Those in the diaspora, north, other African countries, how una side dey? |
