bebe2: obviuosly there is not and look at the whole quotation itself!!!!. The client should be carefull nt to be deceived. U shouldn't necessarily award contracts to d lowest bidders. Most contractors wil quote ridiculously low just to get d job.The quotation is not all encompassing its kinda unprofessional and crappy!! 2 Likes 1 Share |

From the picture of your plan you posted, the partitioning is much. You can also do a little simple mathematics. 1. Sum up all the length from you ground floor plan. The length, breath and all partitioning within the plan. Divide it by 18 inches, if the measurements is in inches. If the measurements is in millimeters, divide it by equivalent of the 18 inches in millimetres. 2. Multiply the number you arrived at in 1 above by the number of coaches your foundation will have. That will give you an appropriate of blocks your need for the foundation. This value is usually like 5 to 10 percent higher than the actual as the cement mixture space to hold the blocks together not considered. Note: If you are not sure of the price given to you by your Engineer, consult two more Engineers and compare the quotations and ask questions based on the differences of item and price quoted. |

the bill is very unprofessional as the quantity of work and quality of material and specification is not giving.there is a high chance that you will be deceived into starting the project and eventually spend more for a less quality job . |

Chekitaut: rushing to have an opinion on a matter when u don't have all the details, either makes u look foolish or appear as a bad belle. I doubt with the plan above that the quotation will even be enough. That quote is half the actual price. And u re saying it's too much. Bebe2, I suggest u get a professional QS or an experienced civil engineer or builder to give u a better estimate. The materials and labour are underestimated. 5 Likes |

U are not serious, that quotation is too small , u will spend Double of that and even more b4 u do d DPC, u think building a storied building is child's play, your so called contractor does not have d experience that's why he gave u what will not even do the foundation, my advice u will spend 3m nothing less except u want to be heading for sub standard work, I guest the building does not even have a structural drawing as the granite u want to use is too small 1 Like |

bebe2: The truth is that your contractor has given you a good and the best estimate so far...Yes, u can use 6" block in your foundation and that will be only internal demarcation while the 9 inches block will be use for external and it will work perfectly. Let your contractor carry go... nairaland will mislead you. To the best of my knowledge, u are on the right tract. That your contractor is sincere with you. |

bebe2: 1. What is available on the website now is labour rates per day. We are still putting together the labour rate (on contract) per ton of rebars and so on. Always visit www.engineerosaz..com to check for updates. Its work in progress! 2. Genrally for labour rates, the cost normally hovers around 15% of the cost of materials. Considering the quote, the cost of all the materials for the Steel work is about 201600. It is therefore safe to conclude that the 30k would have being a better deal. However the extra 15k may have been included to cover supervisions, if supervision fee is not quoted separately. 3. From the quantity of reinforcement i see in the list, i could easily deduce that the land is perceived to be very stable at shallow depth and perhaps a traditional strip foundation with blocks and columns is to be adopted. If this is true, my advice is for you to also pad the strip. overtime, we have observed that buildings of this size (or load) built on this type of foundation begins to deflect and crack within the first 5-10 years after completion. it is therefore safer to also pad the strip. Here is a link on how to do this; http://engineerosaz..com/2016/10/on-foundations-it-is-safer-to-pad-strip_30.html |

bebe2:/ If in doubt, get 3 different quotes and compare. But ensure the competency of the contractors is not under question. It is an open market. You can go and get the prices of these items yourself. When push comes to shove, you can import workers from out of state. Some people do import skilled workers from the middle belt. If I may ask, why 6" block in a foundation? \ 1 Like |

my friend, I have only one suggestion to offer: never use 6 inch block for foundation. in fact, the whole ground floor must be made of 9 inches blocks. if not you will come to regret later. even here in the north where the soil is a bit more stable we do not take such a risk. I rest my case! |
