b]A DISASTER WAITING TO HAPPEN
Am not a tribal bigot neither am a very religious person, but patriotic Nigerian with a conscience. Back to the crust of my concern.

On my way to my aunt house today, just having sometime alone with my own thoughts, something caught my attention. For those people familiar with Kaduna, at kano road bus stop, precisely at that jummat mosque, one familiar thing that will always get your attention is the large concentration of beggars. As I pass bye I saw so many people just minding their business perhaps used to the scene. But as I pass bye tears gathered in my eyes threatening to pour, as I watch poor helpless multitudes of fathers and mothers with their children looking up to passer bye expecting alms. Note am not a stranger to beggers (I was born and brought up in Kaduna Tudun nupawa to be precise) but today I got scared for the children of these beggars.

I watch them as they run away with their kind(children of fellow beggars) not realising they have been disadvantaged from their birth, if me as a young graduate is unemployed and struggling to survive the present day Nigeria how will these ones survive the ugly tomorrow?

This children have no idea of what is called education, they have no idea that their tomorrow is dependent on today. In 10-15 years time, what will be the condition of these children?

If nothing is done fast today they will be ready tools and soldiers for terrorist tomorrow. If the government and citizens are wondering how people are easily brain washed to join boko haram, this is the answer.

I hereby call the attention of Kaduna state governor and the president to do something fast. I will strongly suggest for a drastic action to be taken fast, if not for the beggars themselves then for their children. For example, the government can create a school or a vocational center in the area for these kids, or even use the large space inside the mosque to teach these children both western and Islamic education to better their tomorrow or we face the possibility of wasting huge resources and many lives to fight another insurgents........ by Alexander Emmanuel.

Hmmm.......Do u think the Northern elders are not aware of those children. They send their children abroad for studies but deliberately allow those ones to suffer so as to be used to cause unrest and wrestle power from the south when the need arises.

When their parents only want to eat religion and dodge formal education and live on ignorance how do you expect them to be productive members of society?

... @OP, I really understand your concerns and I sincerely sympathized with those innocent kids. However, just like a certain region was told to develop their region by themselves, I believe that the leaders from that region or state should as a matter of urgency genuinely try to solve this social malady instead of depending on the federal government.Otherwise, the future of those children, security will be hanging on the balance.

Alexander,
you say you are a graduate and with no job. Guess what? You just found a job!

In today's society there are many problems and those with solutions will always have work.

You correctly identified a problem. That is a task. You also identify the resource you need to address the task and solve the problem. What you now need is a bridge between the problem, the task, the resource and the solution.

You will be that bridge. Alexander is not a nane they will respect or even respond to but nonetheless you understand the language and culture. Find some muslim Hausas to partner with. Here are some hints for you....

1 - create a non-profitable agenda
2- document it as a proposal and date and sign it.
3 - find trusted friends who are muslims and hausa, of both genders.
4 - if you have money, register the charity with CAC, if not approach a small business financial inveator and share proposal for startup capital.
5- after business registration find funds to do weekly feeding on the street.
6 - you cook food and take to them on Fridays and Sundays at their own gathering spot on the street.
6 - take pictures with them, invite radio or tv to give you coverage.
7 - solicit churches and mosques to donate to your fund.
8 - go back to radio and tv and give appreciation and progress report.
9 - extend your needs to HOS members and tell them you cannot do it alone, ask for their support. Remain neutral and appeal to both parties.
10 - bring radio and tv back out there to give coverage

Keep the media covering your events. Arrange a street soccer game for the boys. Arrange a ddouble dutch for the girls. Table tennis competition.

Use the almajiris as the problem, ally with the media as their voice. You are just a facilitator. The solution rests with society and government.

This is big job, and reward. Good luck!

El Rufai will not want anyting good to come to those children.
instead he plans to use them as thugs or voters in the next election.

Even Dangote, with all his money will not do anything for these unfortunate fellow brothers.

Re: Another Disaster Waiting To Happen by basilo102: 2:30am On Dec 26, 2016
THis is what igbos avoid by redistributing wealth and taking development to the remotest hinterlands and not elite enclaves in the city centers only, and they criticize us for this. Here in the north, 20 minutes drive from the very beauticul city center, you meet people living in stone age

Oh poor things. I used to watch them everyday, cried for then in my prayers but now i let the wind of fate blow. These beggars are strongly rooted in the street like stories written in a book that cannot be stolen. You think they are in pain but surprise they feel nothing. They dance in the flame but not inflamed by the fame of the rich in the frame. Have you also noticed that the beggars give birth in hundreds? One thing i learnt from them is that NO is a word not played to opportunity when YES is on the bench. God help us all.

I have always advocated for birth control in Nigeria, but people say my mouth dey smell. Our resources cant cater for our population and everyday, people keep celebrating naming ceremony. even if government dont do anything bout it, cant we as humans be reasonable and take actions. But in the north, religion is our excuse, in the east, culture celebrates a fertile woman that gives birth to plenty children while in the south, its a thing of competition amongst rivals or neighbours. We need the china birth control model in Nigeria for at least the next 30-35 years unless i forsee we gona experience population explosion that will end our dear country.

the most annoying part is that a budget of as little as 5million naira monthly can carter for all beggars children in Kaduna for sure. even if you can't feed them at least educate them, in fact the idea of birth control and family planning can be easily inculcated into them at these stage. for God sake 5 million is not too much to salvage their future. Oh, I cry for my country. I thought they say the children are our future.
Re: Another Disaster Waiting To Happen by WizBLANCE(m): 7:45am On Dec 26, 2016
Those kids are humans but left in the street consequently for not meeting the socio-cultural demands of being called rich. They all have something unique but clothed in imperfection that cannot be shown to light.
I saw mayoroflagos drawing your attention to social entrepreneur. He can pass for my entrepreneurship lecturer (R.A. AGU) then in UNN. Just give it a try and i promise you will not only save lives but you will carve a niche for yourself and in no time create job for others. Many became world figure through that. Bless you as you bless theso kids.
