maintenance of private jet is very high, let alone presidential jets.

Its so weird that average 'eduacate' nigerian youth just criticise with taking time to find facts
In a country that has 70% of its citizens living below average?

By the way I thought some of the presidential jets have been handed over to the NAF? How come the budget is still higher than last year or are they planning to increase the exchange rate?

MY WORRY IS THAT...NONE OF ALL THIS FUNDS WILL BE ACCOUNTED FOR..AND THIS NEXT YEAR YOU WILL EXPERIENCE ANOTHER INCREMENT AND IN BTW THE FISCAL YEAR THERE WILL BE EMERGENCY INTERVENTION BAIL OUT FUNDS BECAUSE OF BLABLA BENCHMARK ETC...
greenermodels:
2.4billion can end homelessness in all the major cities in Nigeria within one year if used judiciously, the rate of increment in this year budget is alarming, the same way last year increment over the 2015 budget was also alarming. buhari is inflating our national budget without anything to show for it,take a look at the 2016 budget which was by far the largest in the history of our nation without anything to show for it.

how do you expect them to account for the 2017 budget when they couldn't account for the 2016 budget? didn't you see the thread where the minister of finance couldn't account for the 2.2 trillion borrowed by them, she even said " THEY used it for whatever thing they needed using money for" the word "THEY" showing that she's not even aware talkless of approving what the borrowed money was used for. now they want to borrow another 9.6 trillion which is more than our foreign reserves. most of this money was borrowed internally which is probably why our banks are suffering from a cash crunch.

GoggleB:

Despite the harsh economic climate in the country, the Federal Government is proposing to spend N2.38bn in 2017 on fueling and maintenance of the presidential jets.

The amount when compared to the N1.99bn approved in the 2016 fiscal period for similar expenses represents an increase of N390m.

Details of the proposed spending are contained in the 2017 budget which was submitted to a joint session of the National Assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari on December 14.

According to the Presidency, the PAF contains 10 aircraft. These are: Boeing Business Jet (Boeing 737-800 or AirForce One), one Gulfstream 550, one Gulfstream V (Gulfstream 500), two Falcons 7X, one Hawker Sidley 4000, two AgustaWestland AW 139 helicopters and two AgustaWestland AW 101 helicopters.

Each of the two Falcon 7X jets were purchased in 2010 by the Federal Government for $51.1m, while the Gulfstream 550 costs $53.3m, a former Minister of Information, the late Pro. Dora Akunyili, had said.

In the budget breakdown which was made available to our correspondent in Abuja, the presidency in the 2017 fiscal year is proposing to spend N900m out of the N2.38bn on fueling of the aircraft in the presidential fleet.

The N900m when compared to the N478.6m allocated for the same purpose in 2016 represents an increase of N421.4m or 88 per cent.

There is also a provision of N850m for maintenance of the aircraft. This amount is however N103.25m lower than the N953.15m allocated for aircraft maintenance in 2016.

In the same vein, the sum of N90m would be spent in 2017 to purchase air navigational equipment. In the 2016 fiscal period, the sum of N262.4m was budgeted for similar purpose.

The Federal Government is also proposing to spend N93.95m to purchase fire fighting equipment for the presidential air fleet as against N7.9m allocated for fire protection kits in 2016.

this is depressing.. One would think that with the sale of some of the presidential aircrafts, the funds for mentainance should reduce but instead it has increased.

BRO...I understand and i know ...sometimes most of my Nigerian friends here attack me with fury that i bother too much about Nigerian politics and economy as i am the only one who even has nigerian channels..they say i bore them with it and i should ignore it but the truth is i cant because this is gross misconduct..and its getting worse by the day..for e.g they budget police funds every year not expended ,yet police building collapses and no one talks about the proposed funds, the next year another funds is earmarked..really this has got to stop..every year ridiculous amounts for computers etc in ASOROCK which i can never understand..even IBM ,WALL STREET doesnt upgrade like that....
