I must confess this story is very disappointing!because I have made plans to call mr cityhood tomorrow to get me the mistubushi outlander he advertised on this forum b4 I return from the UK. Now, I certainly won't give him a call because I really don't have much time to inspect cars (because of the distance). 8 Likes |

OPUSDEI1: Going by this info, I can tell you why the car performs poorly. The engine advertised judging by the plastic cover is a 3.3liter 3mz engine, engine is sold for over 350k at the moment. www.nairaland.com/attachments/3886844_img20160624102836_jpegcdb26be902a7f00c2c5cd5625ab22b34 Engine. In the bay is a 2.5liter 2mz-fe engine without a VVTI system. (Variable valve timing) this engine is sold for about 70-100k for a toks, but will not function properly because of the deference in design. In my line of work I have seen this happen several times, and have advised buyers to stay clear. Unfortunately a few of you fall prey to this and ultimately have to replace the engine to the original spec to get the desire result. A few wires have to be returned back to factory spec too as the 2mz-fe comes with just 1 cam shaft sensor while the 3mz come with 2. As per the transmission, a few of these highlanders come with the legendary 13pin trannys, and they are a pain in the neck when they develop faults, replacement is also very expensive and could go for over 300k for the Front wheel drive and more than 350k for the 4wheel drive tranny. In several cases the 10pin gear which is about 100k is modified and installed in place of the 13pin. Other problems mentioned like the leaking roof and windows are easily fixable, but full disclosure would have enabled the buyer make an informed decision. Moral of the story before you buy it, get someone to look at it. I would expect Mr cityhood to address compensation for the OP so we can put this behind us and move on. I'd just make a few points here. As someone who sells cars for a living, I'd tell you that even amongst us(car dealers), we also do get scammed by our colleagues. I know it's good to trust people sometimes but since people change, it's just adviceable that anyone going to buy a car, should pls inspect personally, or have a representative do that. After that you can't come and say you were scammed. As a dealer myself, I've been scammed by dealers within and outside the country, and I've learnt my own lessons too. Know this for a fact : there are lots of yahoo boys dealers in town and for them, it's cash first, before any other thing. I'm not saying this particular seller is one, I'm just advicing people generally. Secondly, the issue of middlemen has to be addressed properly. It shouldn't be used in a derogatory manner. A contractor who collects a supply contract, is a middleman in that transaction. As a dealer, no matter how much you are worth, you can never have all the vehicles your clients want and as such, you'd have to reach out to your colleagues to source for the ones you don't have, except you want to claim that you don't sell to clients who request for cars you don't have. Anybody who rants about not being a middleman, is either telling a lie, or one of those egocentric folks who you can't talk to. I as a person, sell cars for myself, my friends, colleagues and clients and I use whatever medium I choose to, in marketing. 90% of the time, the owners are the ones who bring the cars to me, or call me up to come check them out. You don't expect me to turn the offer down just because I don't want to be a middleman in the chain of the transaction. That's just unnecessary arrogance and stupid pride that takes one nowhere. If a car isn't directly mine, it automatically means I'm a middleman on that transaction and I don't see what the big deal about that is. What you should be bothered about, is if the dealer in question, has a physical office address where he or she can be contacted. I've had dealers offer me cars they claimed were perfect, only for me to get there and find out that they are cars I wouldn't even accept as a gift for free, not to talk of selling to a client. The reason for this sometimes, is that some people have weird standards of assessment and think a car is OK, just cos it starts and moves. What this means is that, people have different standards and the best way to get what meets up with your taste, is to go see what you're buying personally. Take for example just few days back, I met someone who had a particular car for sale. I met her while searching for a particular car for a client. She made me understand that she had the car but when I checked, it wasn't the standard I would have loved, because it was accidented and the job done wasn't too neat, for a 2012 SUV. But she offered to collect a very reduced price for it so the car can go. Another dealer sent someone to me and the first thing I asked him was "did he tell you the car is accidented"? He said no. I clarified that with him and told him to come inspect the car. He saw it and didn't like it based on his own taste. But there are people who would jump on the offer for the price it's going for. Where else would you see a 2012 tokunbo 4runner with 33k miles for around 6.2m? Current market value is close to 10m... In the final analysis, I'd advice that anybody wanting to buy a car, should pls go and inspect physically before paying. Once your money is out, it's never easy to collect it back. Secondly, if a car is too cheap, know that the possibility of having issues is high. Do your market survey and compare prices. If you're buying a Nigerian used 07 Camry for around 1.5m now or less, know you're most likely going to buy rubbish or a below standard car. Thirdly, dealers should quit advertising all manner of junk vehicles for sale and if you must sell such, let the buyer know the faults with the car. I hope cityhood and the buyer would reach a reasonable conclusion on this transaction. Happy New Year in advance to you all. 29 Likes 1 Share |

Quite honestly,I am trying to wrap my head around this story. Mr City hood, big time car dealer, you have the OP's money and you have the OP's lemon ,cannibalised Toyota Highlander with a Lexus engine. We do not need a long story except for you to come out of hiding and tell us how you want to remedy the situation. 1) You have the Highlander in your possession. 2) You have Memeluv's money in your possession. What do you want to do? No messing around. Are you giving him another vehicle from the numerous ones you are advertising all over Nairaland? Or are you giving him his money back? 21 Likes 4 Shares |

TheMadame: We tried exploring this option but there are no vehicles in his stand. He brings a car to the stand, take a picture and drop it back to their owners. What we could find were only accident-ed craps and loads of keke-napep. I have spent almost 1/2 the amount I bought this lemon in logistics and other trial and error attempts. And wanted oga cityhood to just bring any solution at-all (willing to give him real money for Toks, provided he'll deduct the price of this from it) up-to the point of asking him to sell it to any other dealer at any price at all for me to get something, but to no avail. So what more? I moved on because my mind can now focus on important things and I can walk into reputable outlets to get something that's worth it. Thanks for all the sane contribution from N/Ds 6 Likes 1 Share |

slimmoney:The friend of mine in question are military officers (worked with them in Bonny JTF operations), but cityhood won by lying to them that I was happy with the car and was flexing it for the past two months. That I knelt down to plead with him to help me sell it so I can upgrade, that he was even supposed to charge me for parking it in his car stand. The most annoying part is that he told them that it was on his expenses that another driver came to pick up the lemon and to crown it all, there was no solid physical agreement written. The man in question has obviously mastered the act of Scamming! My friends blamed me for waiting this long and couldn't understand what I was trying to explain to them that Oga cityhood hoodwinked me by promising that he'll re-list it and get me back the money. When I now looked at the threads where he's re-listing the car, he placed a ridiculous amount on it. How can you sale this lemon at those price? How I wish my friends understood this deal like nairalanders have done, there would have been a solid resolve already. So there was no option left than to move on. 3 Likes |

Cityhood is a thief. This idiot nearly caught my interest to travel to Kaduna to buy one of his cars. The only thing that saved me was the distance. If not, cityhood would have fried me like chicken. Nairalanders please if you are in Lagos always buy your cars in Lagos. If you are in Portharcourt , always buy your cars in Portharcourt. If you are in Enugu, please buy your cars in Enugu. If you are in Aba, please buy your cars in Aba. But if you are so much interested in crossing the boundaries to buy your cars, please make sure you report to the police in the area you have travelled for buying the car. When you arrive in the location where the car is parked for sale, please look for the nearest police to report the purpose of your visit in the area. After reporting to the police, then you have gotten their back up, so you can go ahead to inspect the car before payment. If anything goes wrong, you can go back to the police to report the problem and you are safe at least you can get a refund at all costs. Please always inspect the cars before payment. Do not hesitate to inspect the cars first and do not hesitate to involve the police when buying a used or tokunbo car. Cityhood is a thief for doing this to someone. 18 Likes 2 Shares |
